I love this story! The Beans were extrordinary pioneers, and hold a special place to me. While a missionary in Palmyra, I met a very old woman who had a scrapbook of events of her life. To my surprise, she had an obituary of Willard Bean from the local Palmyra newspaper! She knew them personally, and attested to their great love for the gospel and their down-home goodness. Incidently, this sweet woman responded warmly to an invitation to attend church, and quickly became a favorite member of the Lyons, NY ward. At the conclusion of my time in that area, this woman gave me the obituary which I now have in my possession. If anyone knows how to reach the family, I would be delighted to give them this obituary.

Interesting story. Anyone who can turn enemies into friends is doing remarkable work. The world could use more like her - especially now in places like the U.S. Government.

Otherwise, I would add only one minor correction to this inspiring story. The Book of Mormon was not "translated." According to all source documents, it was channeled. Not one page of what now constitutes the Book of Mormon was "translated" using the Urim and Thummim - as most LDS historians are more or less willing to admit.
