I am a descendant of the early Almo settlers(5th generation) and still living in the Almo area . I feel that "the rest of the story" regarding the Almo Massacre should be presented. Box Elder County History refers to this incident as does several sources in Idaho. Go to AlmoIdaho.com and read the Alice Rice History where she talks about playing several years later on the embankments where the battle occured as a child. Early settlers, Will Eames and Henry Cahoon, farmed the area where the masscre occured and plowed up firearms, etc. Will Eames donated a rifle to the Cassia County Courthouse - but it disappeared years later. Interestingly, in my research through military records at Utah State University, the indian affairs report for this area in 1861 was missing. That could have cleared up so many questions. I ask the historians - where is the proof it didn't happen? Their theories do not accept local journals and early Box Elder County History as valid. Why? I doubt the early settlers of 1878 in Almo made this story up. They had no reason to.
