I don't think Romney is really all that nice. He is just smart and doesn't say dumb things. I think he would be a great President and is probably the best candidate but he will never become President because of religious bias. Too bad. I think we need a President that can help heal the negative way the world looks at our country.
Just because they can't find anything wrong with him, they say he's "too nice". Come on, give me a break. This country needs Mitt to bring unity and positive leadership. Go Mitt!
I attended the VFW National Convention the last of August and I wasn't impressed with Clinton Oboma Thompson. Im very impressed in what great values Romney has we need more like him in this day and age.

As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney raised state government fees and taxes by three quarters of a billion dollars a year. During his four year tenure, Romney nickeled and dimed Massachusetts families and individuals with over a hundred fee increases, on everything from getting married (he upped the price for a marriage license), to buying a new home (he increased charges for Registry of Deeds paperwork), to owning a gun legally (he tripled the fee for a Firearms ID Card). He also proposed and obtained hundreds of millions of dollars in new tax revenues from business, with tax changes he dubbed loophole closings but critics said were really just tax increases. The fee hikes and tax revenue increases described here were all proposed by Romney himself, as elements of various budgets, revenue raiser packages, or other measures or policy proposals originating in Romney's office.
Romney is professional, dedicated, energetic, focused, informed, and thorough. Go Mitt go. I am glad he is there to raise the bar among Republican candidates.
When Mitt became Governor of Massachusetts he inherited a $3 BILLION dollar budget gap. He went on to balance the budget EVERY year he was governor in a state that was (and still is) beset with liberal social programs.... a state that had not balanced it's budget in decades under liberal leadership. He did an incredible job as Governor given the fact that he had a liberal legislature that refused to slash social programs. Mitt Romney is a leadership genius with the rare skill set to bring people together to accomplish the seemingly impossible.
Remember the Olympics..... he turned that mess around and can do the same for our country. MITT IS THE REAL DEAL! Get on board.
The comment made about Romney raising fees by three quarters of a billion dollars is simply wrong. He did raise fees by 250 million over four years but these were fees that were much lower than surrounding states and the fact is he lowered taxes in the state three times.
Mitt Romney is a biased rich person who does not care about the poor masses. Yes, that includes the poor masses in Utah. Utah is one big poor state. Mitt is not the person to vote for, Ron Paul on the other hand is a real Ronald Reagan Republican.
If Hitler was LDS would you vote for him?
thanks for the educational comments. it helps get people like me to research and find out if the comments are even true. we then in turn become more knowledgeable. as for judgemental comments, they don't really say much for the person they are about i feel they sure say a lot about the person who passes the judgement though.
Very interesting that there is a Ron Paul devotee in every presidential story thread. Who knows, may be the same guy everytime.
In any case, I have paid special attention to what Mr. Paul has been saying in the recent series of debates and can honestly say that I do not see or hear anything special coming from his corner.
Although I am not certain that any Republican candidate can beat Hillary in 08, Romney seems to stand head and shoulders above the crowd.
Unfortunately, he has one fatal flaw-his membership in the LDS church. What a shame! The best candidate that we have had in years and sheer bigotry will prevent him from ever being president.
If a liberal state wants to maintain their programs, they must be paid for. If a budget is to be balanced it must have revenue. If TruthSeeker wants to undermine his own point, make a Hitler reference.
I was always under the impression that a newspaper should be unbiased, especially when it comes to elections, but it seems that Mitt, being LDS, has become the golden child for the Deseret News. As long as it comes in a pretty package it doesn't matter that he's as slick as any snake oil salesman that ever came down the pike. Romney doesn't really care about seeing that the less fortunate (and face it, anyone who has less than several million dollars is less fortunate to him) have decent health care or education. He just wants his picture on the cover of Rolling Stone.
Hey Robin, anyone who is under the impression that a newspaper or any media source is unbiased is clueless. Deseret News covers Mitt Romney because it is relevant to their audience, which happens to largely be LDS.
Also, 'Anonymous' commented on the spending for Romney. For once, a politician is going about running the county like a business and not like an open bank account. He got many private companies to the top, the SLC olympics, the dismal state of Massachusettes, and hopefully the U.S of A.
He's not a raw raw warm and fuzzy candidate. He has real solutions for real problem and definitely is a strong candidate that we should study and decide if we want to elect president.
I'm not voting for anyone based on their religion, but I'm also not going to rule him out on the same grounds.
To Truthseeker -- Ron Paul is a better candidate than Mitt Romney? Who is Ron Paul? Mitt is a proven leader regardless of his religion.
To Robin Feather -- Most newspapers (even the Salt Lake Tribune) around the country endorse candidates and voting issues. I would think the Deseret Morning News has articles about Mitt Romney because he did live in this state at one time and has a significant following in this state.
I like what I've seen and heard so far in Mitt's campaign. I work in Massachusetts, which, with the likes of Ted Kennedy, leans so far left it should be annexed by Los Angeles.mWaht Mitt accomplished there is amazing. As for being a LDS - the same scare tactics were used when John F. Kennedy ran as a Catholic. I'll take a religious man (or woman) any time over a non-religious or faux-religious one.
Mit Romney is just a political opportunist who will favor Big Business, the extreme right wing social agenda, (in spite of his earlier more progressive views)and who hasn't the political guts or leadership to get us out of Iraq. McCain clobbered him in the most recent republican debate because he had the audacity to suggest that the "surge" may or may not be working. A more astute candidate would have confronted McCain for declaring the "surge" a success before General P. has even delivered his assesment.
Truth Seeker's comments are typical of the tinfoil hat followers of Ron Paul. Ron Paul has many solid points and, for the most part, a clear understanding of the Constitution. However, he does not have the practical experiance nor the emotional balance of a Mitt Romney. That's why tin foil hat Republicans are drawn to him. It's time for rational thought and a rational President. I'm glad Ron Paul is around to keep us on our toes; but I can't support him for higher office.
