What a horrible story. Shame on the cops! I'm sure these killers couldn't wait to use their guns on this poor defenseless animal. Farmers are able to corral their animals all the time without resorting to murder. THIS CREATURE DID NOT HAVE TO DIE!
While saving the bull's life would have been good, the likely alternatives are horribly beyond imagination. Preventing those scenarios was well worth the bulls life. Several years ago, there were 2 horses running loose on U 201, and I was hit from behind as I avoided hitting the horses with my vehicle. The horses then went onto I-215 and were stuck by a truck, with disastrous results. I say "WAY TO GO UHP!"
If you read the story closely you will see that they TRIED to corral the bull several times but it kept escaping, also that they did not know who the owner was so they couldn't call him/her for help. The officers were right in shooting the animal because if a car hit it going 60-70 mph the driver and occupants could have been killed in addition to the animal. Is that more human than a single gun shot?!?! Get over yourself- it's just an animal!
Let us get our priorities straight.
Bulls on the loose are expendable.
The owner has the responsibility of keeping them under control. Sometimes, the bull is not co-operative.
People who die by accidents caused by loose livestock are not expendable.
The law enforcement people should be complimented for doing their job of protecting the public.
