Well, Rocky should know because he is the paragon of disasters.
Shaun Williams - Phoenix,Az | 1:30 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
I for one will be all to hapy to see Rocky Anderson gone, what a complete disaster and huge embarrasment to Salt Lake City. I hope that the voters will this time vote for a person who is not so liberal and anti-mormon.
Brad C | 3:02 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Disasters! Obviously Rocky is an expert in that field. It will take Salt Lake City at least a quarter of a century to recover from all the damage SLC's infamous leader has done. Probably the greatest endorsement a candidate could get is if Rocky stands against them.

"attack more tourists and visitors"???

How is that supposed to help the city?
Gary S. | 4:28 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
I guess we know where the smart votes go now. Thanks for the tip, Rocky!
Charlie | 4:43 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Well that settles it. I was honestly thinking about voting for Jenny Wilson. However, Buler might just get my vote.
James | 5:31 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
I do not live in SLC

I don't see Rocky as Anti-Mormon, I see him calling shots they way it is with people devoted to the Mormon Church.

With a devout believer in the Mormon Church he or she knows that excommunication (Alteration of their Soul through out eternity) is hanging over their heads should they displease one of their leaders. It only stands to reason, that a non-Mormon voter would take this into consideration in appointing public officials, that swears to represent all of his or her constituents. This issue becomes magnified, as the ideology of SLC becomes even more diversified.

How can a devout believer in the Mormon Church honor the precept of separation of Church and State with this type of anvil hanging over their heads?
Dwight Epperson | 5:31 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
What a compliment to David Buhler, creating some angst for Rocky. Go Dave!
Pioneer Stock | 5:58 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Shaun, tell you what. MOVE to SLC, register to vote, and do so. Or Keep out of SLC politics. Typical non-SL'ers weeping, wailing, and gnashing their teeth that SLC isn't like Utah County. Grow up, get over it, it isn't.
Alison | 6:10 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Rocky's dis-endorsement for Buhler is a lot like Castro's endorsement for Clinton/Obama. It's worth a great deal of merit to consider the opinions of one's enemies....Rocky's opinion of Buhler sells me on the strength of Buhler's candidacy, just as Castro's endorsement of Lady Hillary strikes terror into my soul.
Comic Book Guy | 6:27 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Worst Mayor Ever!
Ben H | 6:39 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Thanks for speaking your mind, Rocky! I know who I am voting for now! Go Buhler!
Debbie Smith | 6:44 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
I think the biggest Disaster is Rocky. You need someone with a positive attitude to lead SLC. It sounds like he is trying to throw the vote. He should keep his mouth shut.
Jimmy's Sneakers | 6:45 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Buhler...Buhler...Buhler...
Kyle | 6:57 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
That's it. I'm voting for Buhler.
George Howze | 7:17 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
It's always interesting that people who live outside of Salt Lake City are so quick to disparage our mayor. We've elected him twice, and obviously don't find him an embarrassment. We need a mayor who is willing to speak out on all important issues.
James the Less | 7:46 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
James you're ignorant if you believe an LDS political leader would be excommed for going against the LDS Church. You cannot cite a single instance where that has happened -- because it hasn't! Rocky was an embarassment to people of all faiths (and no faith at all), not just Mormons. His shrill rhetoric and advocacy of matters completely outside the scope of local governments has tarnished the image of UT's fair capital. I don't live in UT either, but follow UT politics pretty closely and have spent a great deal of time with UT's federal, state, and locally elected officials. Rocky makes EVERYONE grimace. Good riddance is all I can say. Dave Buhler just got the best non-endorsement a candidate could ever hope for.
Diane | 7:48 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Buhler must have some merit if Rocky can't endorse him. Wow! Who else don't you like Mr. Mayor????
Guaglione | 7:58 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Wahoo! That'll do more for Buehler's campaign than anything he could have done. You can't buy an endorsement like that.
Sara | 8:00 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
James, Obviously you know nothing about the LDS church. Please get your facts straight. An excommunication happens if one commits an immoral act, adultery, child molestation, murder, things like that. I have never heard of "displeasing your church leaders" as grounds for excommunication. Since in our church, the leaders change, and we all have a chance to grow in these leadership capacities, it is hard to abuse power. Thank heaven that in politics it changes also, as Rocky Anderson has been the biggest power abuser I have ever seen. He reacts instead of acting. Jenny or Dave will be a huge improvement. They both seem to have some maturity. Rocky reminds me of a little boy clutching his toy truck screaming that only the one he says can have it next can have it. Apparently Dave has upset him and Rocky, who criticizes everyone else, but isn't adult enough to handle criticism himself, can't handle the thought of sharing with Dave. Salt Lake City is not a toy, and Rocky does not own it. I will be thrilled to see the last of him.
Rocky ........ | 8:02 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
I voted for Rocky twice! But given Rocky's record as Mayor, He has lost all credibilty with me. Downtown is a mess, if Rocky had pust as much work into Mayoring SLC as he did his travels, SLC would be a bustling robust city of commerce.....as it sits right now, rents are low, high vacancy rates, place looks like a ghost town! With the leadership of the likes of Rocky and Cooradini.....SLC in NOT the place it should be! Ted Wilson did nothing for SLC either, That is why I am voting for Dave Buhler!! Buhler is the only Mayor that can bring vitality back to SLC!
Bob | 8:11 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Rocky was the best mayor ever and the only point of light in this one party mess
Ken Baguley | 8:13 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Shame on you Rock!!! If Dave Buehler is anything like his younger brother Doug, who plays trombone in the Phoenix Jazz and Swing Band he'll be a fine Mayor. We need a normal human being in there. Thanks to the Rock's demeaning we'll see Dave there.
Rocky is Gone!!!! | 8:18 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
I'm throwing a huge party on the last day Rocky is in office to celebrate the end of Salt Lakes worst mayor ever. Whoever thinks the best way to represent "the good of the whole" of the city is to be anti mormon and vote opposite the church on every issue no matter what is crazy. Since the city is still 50% LDS why not create harmony, work together and respectfully disagree on issues? If Rocky would focus on issues within his own city he could have accomplished a few things instead of trying to impeach President Bush and parading around the country. He sure has been a disaster of a mayor and my vote is going to Dave Buhler.
Goodbye Rocky & good riddance | 8:28 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Rocky lost the NAC and all those jobs because he was spending too much time touring around the country attending anti-war rallies and smoking weed with his hippie friends. How anyone can condone his behavior as an elected city official traveling the country doing things completely unrelated to his duties as the mayor of SLC on company time and money is beyond me.

I hope Rocky fades into the sunset and we never hear from the guy politically again. He has no chance of every winning a general election in Utah so his only hope is some nat'l post which is why he has been doing what he has been doing over the past two years.
SomeGuy | 8:36 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Rocky is very lame. He loves him some him. And James, wow, just wow. I guess you subscribe to the Mormons are mindless sheep theory? Give me a break.
PG Suggested | 8:37 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
For those who would vote for a candidate based on Rocky Anderson's dislike of them, I say good luck with what you get. This kind of ignorance makes me very frustrated.
It seems like a much better idea to research the best possible person for Salt Lake City based on experience. But...well it may be too much to ask...thinking for yourselves.
Rocky Road | 8:38 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
I abhor the image Rocky has given Salt Lake. He did just give Dave Buhler a huge leg up. Rocky has set back any possibility that Utah will ever be a two-party state. That's sad for those of us who consider ourselves a Democrat.
wayne | 8:45 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Dave Buhler and Rocky Anderson have had direct opposite points of view on a vast majority of Rocky's agenda. Unfortunately, Rocky is not running but thankfully David Buhler is. We may never see the showdown that could have been between David and the Goliath Embarrassment. Rocky can only take pock shots at David. David Buhler has my solid support. Rocky's non-endorsemnt should be viewed by the average citizen democrat and republican alike as a chance to regain the dignity to the citys mayor office.
No Name | 8:50 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Hopefully, after the new Mayor takes office; Rocky will leave town.
SLaker | 8:50 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
One-Party-State, One-Party-Rule--Now and Forever. Vote Republican!
Riggs | 8:54 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
It'll take years for SLC to overcome the image of being a city capable of twice electing a bona fide nut as a mayor. However, it does confirm that the LDS Church does not exercise control over politics in SLC. Butler or Wilson will be a great step forward. However, having Rocky as his declared enemy, Butler will now need far fewer friends to get elected.
Floyd | 8:56 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Pioneer Stock:
I do not live in Salt Lake either, BUT I do work in Salt Lake. So what "Your Highness" Rocky does impact me. Plus when he out their embrassing himself in the media, it reflects on ALL Utah residents. So yes we do have a right to complain about how he embrasses us.

Second, One reason that Rocky is so anti-mormon is because he once was part of our faith. Since he is no longer part of it, he has choosen to be againist it

Third, Rocky does nothing to bring unity to the city. Instead of finding ways to bring people together, Rocky insteads tries to put divider between them.

Fourth, one of my biggest complaints is that Rocky drifts with whatever is wind is blowing:
Church Plaza -First againist then for it

Illegal being arrested at the airport - Very vocal, but where is the west side community center that was part of the settlement for the Plaza issue?

I would hope that the citizens of Salt Lake City would vote for someone that will bring unity to the city not division.
Jerry | 8:56 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
I have spent years envolved in local politics here and elsewhere. I have seen a number of individuals with personal agendas, such as Mayor Anderson. It has been embarrassing lately when in professional settings with people around the country there is a perception that Salt lake is harboring extremist politics. Mayor Anderson has a right to his beliefs, but has become so strident and out of touch with mainstream thought (here and throughout the U S) that he sends a false impression about our wonderful city and state. Unfortunately, Mayor Anderson has a personal hatred of the Mormon faith, and appears to have used his position to promote his anti-Mormon ideas. To me it appears that the person with a problem separating church and state is Mayor Anderson. His has been a poorly administered office.
DemoChoice.org | 8:58 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Rank the candidates for SLC mayor in the order of your preference there.
Rachel | 9:00 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
James,

The First Presidency of the church always writes a statement to be read over the pulpit at church that reads something to the fact that the church does not endorse a particular political party or candidate. The church encourages its members to study political issue's on their own and vote and make political decisions on their own. If the church takes such strides to maintain neutral why would anyone think a political candidate can be influenced by the church? Or be excommunicated for "disagreeing?" Especially when the church does not tell you what to do or think in terms of politics?
Janet | 9:05 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
I have to agree with Sara, that James and all others who demonize the LDS church based on what they have heard need to learn what the Church of Jesus Christ really teaches from us, not from anti-LDS people, who really know nothing about it, as Rocky has done. Sometimes I have thought that he has opposed the Skywalk over Main street just because the church proposed it, whereas if someone he liked had proposed it he would have been gung-ho about getting it built!
Rick | 9:08 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Rocky completley let down all the citizen's of SLC. He used their trust and money to pursue his own private agenda's. While doing so, he completley ruined down town. How can one govern, when one is never around to govern? I'm not LDS, but if it wasn't for the LDS church continueing to pour money into SLC, the city would have completley vanished under Rocky. Let's face it Rocky just isn't a very intelligent person.
JGolden | 9:13 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Well...I was going to vote for Jenny Wilson, before I read Rocky's latest screed...THANK YOU, Rocky...THANK YOU...I aways viewed Buhler as a fool, but and "Anderson Disaster" is my kind of candidate.

You know Rocky...Think about it...you can leave the Church...seems you just can't leave the Church alone.

Maybe a small pied a terre in San Francisco, might be more to your liking?????
Luke | 9:31 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Pioneer Stock, the attitude of 'live here or shut up' only works if the actions of the SLC mayor only affect SLC. The fact is that SLC is the big gorilla, and what SLC does affects the entire Wasatch Front, if not the entire state. And that doesn't even take into account the fact that Rocky has inserted himself in other city's business, even suing the state occasionally. Not unexpected from someone who was weaned in the ACLU legal system. But it certainly opens him up to criticism from outside the city. And you can't really complain about it, unless you want to tell Rocky to mind his own (and SLC's) business. Rocky's MO is twofold: 1> If the LDS church is for it, then he is against it. 2> If there is a problem or conflict, he waits until a solution is presented by someone else then he swoops in, claims it was his idea all along, and takes the credit.
His current agenda is to get lots of media coverage blasting the Bush administration, regardless of the reason. This will get him appointed to a federal position in the next Democratic administration. If the next administration is somehow not from the Democrat party, Rocky will probably fade away.
Barbara | 9:36 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Can we hardly wait for Rocky Anderson to go away? Buhler is great.....
Shirley | 9:42 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Rocky was a clown and SLC will gain a lot to have him replaced . I think its time they choose LDS , it has been so one sided with him in there. He made the State look bad. How he was voted in twice makes you wonder , he sure didnt get my vote.
Hilary | 9:42 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Rocky is one of very few politicians--people in general--who actually walks his talk. He is recognized internationally for all of the extraordinary things he does, including his tremendous leadership in local government. It will be a sad day for Salt Lake City when his term is over. None of the mayoral candidates has yet demonstrated his level of integrity.
Rocky Rocky Rocky | 9:44 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Anderson is a real gem. What motivates him to keep sticking his foot in his mouth, we will never know. One thing I don't like about this race is Wilson is treating it as if being mayor of SLC is a birthright she received from her father. It will be an interesting race for sure.
Frederick | 9:45 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
To James first! It always makes me smile when an outsider tells us who are LDS how our Church is run.
You are the kind that stands a good distance away and shoot barbs intended to hurt but not to edify.
To Rocky second! Take pride in the fact that you are the worst mayor SLC has ever had in the opinion of another believer. I hope the slope is slippery as you slide out of town. Thank you for endorsing the next mayor of SLC.
Jay, SLC | 9:46 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
Just knowing Rocky does not like Dave is another reason to say

"I like Dave"

Message to Rocky . . . you are an embarrassment to all the decent people living in SLC.
Please just leave office & GO AWAY quietly.

VOTE | 9:50 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
How does a Rocky get voted into office...twice?! The same flaming liberal in my district gets voted into office year after year by a minority of registered voters. Why? Because a huge block of people who complain about them sit in church thinking all is well in zion and don't vote!!! Go out and freakin' vote! For whoever you think is best!!!
LUKE | 9:56 a.m. Aug. 30, 2007
YOU HAVE JUST GIVEN US ALL ANOTHER GREAT REASON TO VOTE REPUBLICAN!
