The Open Race everyone seeks is NOW. The parties' nominees, however, will
be known very early, sometime in March, probably. The conventions are no longer
events for choosing the nominee and more events to showcase him or her to the
nation. Total TV coverage will be lower, reflecting less suspense and the
voters' tendency to decide their votes less on speeches and more on a
general impression. Given Utah's one-party registration, if the candidates
don't come soon, they will most likely not come at all.
