what about the $50,00.00 paid to the legestrators campain funds by out of state parents for choise

At least the public school crowd is from around here. Does the writer even care that the money that got this bill passed and is now being spent to do focus groups, despicable push polls, and run radio ads, comes from out of state? That it comes from far right-wing groups that want to destroy the public school system in this country? Groups that think the LDS church is a cult?
None of that seems to matter to the just want to get my snout in the trough crowd.
Vote no on vouchers.

Jon W.

So public school parent's snouts are not in the trough? If public education is such a benefit to society that it needs to be payed for by tax dollars, do you think private education doesn't provide the same benefit? Is it the privately educated kids who are clogging the courts and the prisons?

kevin and fr1nk before you get too carried away with the "out of state" argument, take this little fact into consideration. the UEA has asked the the NEA (an out of state and very left wing organization that promotes most things anti-LDS) to spend ~$3 million to oppose vouchers. this figure dwarfs the total amount spent by vouchers supporters from inside or outside the state over the last few years.

Kevin and Frank,

Where do you get your information? Having been tuned into this debate for over twelve years now, I can assure you that this was very much a local movement. It may have been inspired by what was observed in other states but the genisis of the Utah voucher program can be found in the desire to come up with creative funding alternatives for public education.

I think that your implications that this is serving some outside interest seeking to alter the education landscape in Utah is unfounded...where is the proof?

To indicate that because the Parents for choice group has jumped on the band wagon indicates that there is some global conspiracy unfounded...where is the proof?

You indicate that the far-right in america seeks to destroy public education...Is this all conservative groups? To indicate that these same groups think that the LDS church is a cult...Is this all conservative groups? You can probably find a group out there that fits the bill and is active in Utah but it would be an ignored group here.

By the way, political contributions abound from all aspects of the corporate spectrum. Special interest groups contribute to most campaigns hoping to buy influence. It is really up to the individual representative or senator as to how much influence is given. If you have a beef with that then chase that issue.

Oh.. and Frank,

I really like all the inflammatory words like "despicable", "far right-wing", and statements like "the just want to get my snout in the trough crowd". As if anyone not of your opinion is fair game for name calling???

So objecting to an offensive and unethical push-poll is being oversensitive? Come on--the guy can't win with you people just because he's a Democrat. If Chris Cannon came out against the poll, the Repubs would be falling all over themselves to nod in unison.
