What in the world are you talking about, J.R.? It is not environmentalists who demand retreat mining. The mine owners do. Robert Murray's company buys and 're-mines' mines that were exhausted by safe mining practices. Crandall Canyon has all the markings of a disaster waiting to happen -- excessive depth, seismic activity and retreat mining. But for the politics of the current administration, re-mining would not have been approved. This has nothing to do with former President Clinton. You must be hallucinating.

I cannot believe that the rescue is being affected by the death of some of the rescuers. Although, this is a great tragedy in itself, it has always been my understanding that a miner, like a soldier, was never left behind. I have always assumed that a rescue effort was not based on how many were to be rescued nor how many died trying but rather the unspoken promise that any and all efforts required to do the job would be employed. Our hearts go out to those miners still trapped and their families.

As a Canadian, I have been following this story. There comes a time that one has to consider aborting. The question is when. We have to weigh the danger versus success. If one of the men trapped was my family member, I would want them found. If one of my family were the rescuers, I would want them to stop. If there was another way to find them, for example, using robots, I would want them to use that option.
