That is the Peru Lima South mission. I lived in Canete, Lima and visited Pisco, Chincha, and Ica durring 2000-2002. Sad to see that happen to people I knew personally.

I would like to know if any news of our missionaries has been addressed by the church headquarter. Do we know if they are all okay? Also, what about the members and the chapels?

They are in our prayers. Earthquakes are a fact that we should be prepared for here in Utah.

I read that all of our missionaries (one being my son) are safe and that the Temple and the MTC are unharmed.

Latter-day Saints in Peru are certain to be effected. A quick search of effected towns using the "worship with us" feature at Mormon.org shows:
Pisco: 5 wards, 3 branches, 5 locations
Ica: 4 wards, 1 branch, 5 locations
Chincha: 5 branches, 3 locations

Cumorah.com estimates about 416,000 LDS in Peru in 515 wards and 228 branches.

We all need to offer prayers and fast for mercy to our Father in Heaven. Then we need to put the fast money and give it to our bishops. We need to make sure that we write humanitarian efforts to help peruvian victims of terremoto August 16, 2006.
May God bless us all.
Aloha,

After receiving permission, my son just called me from the southern part of Lima. He is a missionary there and was just transferred from Pisco a few weeks ago after serving there for almost 8 months. According to him, there has been very little communication with the missionaries in those areas because of the phone problems. Also, the mission president was in Chincha doing church work at the time of the quake, so he is in an area where he can do some good since the roads make it almost impossible for them to get there from Lima.

Even in Lima, the power was out and very little communication and information was available. He had been trying all morning to call people he knows in Pisco with no success.

The missionary group there are strong and hard workers. They will be of great service in that area at this time and I thank you for your prayers. They sure need them at this time.

My friend Chole Blair from Arnold, Ca. Murphys Ward had just arrived in the city for a 2 week stay when the quake hit. She and her friend made it out alive. They are trying to get out. If anyone speeks to Chole let her know we pray for her and all the others. God be with you all.

Residents and firefighters are visible next to a fire that broke out in a building in Lima, where the ground shook for more than a minute. All LDS missionaries serving in Peru were reported safe.
