Just let them all go and don't call ICE. That way no one, neither ICE nor illegal immigrant is inconvenienced.
Deputize the state and local police under 287g and allow them to arrest illegals and detain them until ICE can arrive. This isn't brain surgery! We're tired of the invasion. Matheson's letter will do nothing! What we need are new leaders who get the message.
No concern doesn't care, but I do. These people are not detained unless there is some violation other than immigration. Utah is basically a sanctuary state anyway. Does Jose Carranza of Newark, New Jersey mean anything to No Concern? A few officers trained under the federal 287g program would be a good start.
To "Patriot," do you really want your overworked police force unable to respond to burglary-in-progress calls (etc) because they're off enforcing immigration law and rounding up illegal aliens on a worksite? Let cops be cops; make the feds do their jobs!
John G,
Your argument is a straw man agrument. We're not talking about pulling an officer off of a call to round up illegals. What we're talking about is 287g which is already law that gives authority to local police to detain and hold illegals during their normal patrols until ICE can pick them up. Your burlary in progress might well be committed by an illegal. If he had been taken off the street earlier he might not have committed the crime. Does New Jersey ring a bell? "We the people" give the federal government power and not the other way around. The fact of the matter is the Feds are not doing their job and can use all the help they can get. 287g has been part of our law since 1996. It is time we used all the tools in the box to help enforce our immigration laws. The only way to get a handle on the problem is one community at a time. Why would you object to 287g to help enforce the law? What is your real motive?
Write to your Govenor and police. Let them know they are breaking the law if they are acting like a sanctuary city.
In New Jersey, the parents of those teen girls, with other groups advising them, are considering suing the police and everyone else who did not do their job, suing them personally.
It could be that all your politicians and police could lose their personal immunity from lawsuits if an illegal harms someone, and the government has been refusing to follow the law. That should get their attention.
I don't know what is happening with Dani Countryman, the 15 year old girl who was raped and murdered by 2 illegals, one of whom had 4 DUIs yet was still out free. But some politicians and cops should be sued on that one too in my opinion.
I wrote to San Francisco.
