Comments about ‘Legislator tour starts today’

Let me expand on a minor nuance: This on-line town meeting is a non-partisan event hosted jointly by both the House and the Senate. The Speaker and President preside, as they would in any legislative meeting. Legislators in both parties from both chambers will be responding to public comments, just as in a traditional town meeting. It should be an interesting experiment.

This has to be one of those never fully explained junkets that our legislators feel they have to take to either get their names in the news or give the impression that they are really doing something. Maybe with the massive budget surplus burning a hole in their pockets, they feel the urge to find new areas where they can spend our dollars. Maybe they will even find new pork projects to justify another tax increase this year. Is it only me that feels that our legislators are completely out of tune with reality or do others feel the same?

We live in an era where civility is all but gone. Everything is always looked at in a spirit of criticism and cynicism. Is it possible that our legislators are really trying to do their best and is it possible that the constant derision cast their way isn't helpful to any of us? Can the press not always assume the roll of the schoolyard tattle tale, making much ado about nothing?

I hope they really listen. I think it's interesting that it is only questions that are deemed worthy that will be answered. This is typical, especially with the majority. If they are annoyed by the question, or if the question pricks their conscience, they will ignore you.

I was extremely offended by Rep. Dougall's commments towards Mr. Kim Burmingham. Kim has devoted his life to education and improving the lives of young people. Dougall has spent his career cutting taxes for the wealthy while taking campaign contributions from his business friends.

Disagreements are fine. But, when you make statements like "Kim is full of crap," you remind me of a child arguing over who gets the last twinkie.
