Comments about ‘Custer State Park — The heart of South Dakota's Black Hills’

This area is probably one of the most beautiful in the whole United States. They have a wonderful patriotic program and lowering of the flag at Mt. Rushmore in the evening. My husband, being a retired military member, was privileged to take part in the ceremony, helping to fold the flag. I would love to go visit there again.

My wife and I and our great friends from East York Shire, England took the trip in June covered about the same route. We stayed in Rapid City three days. My only regret was we we're not able to see Custers' State Park. There was a fire going on at the same time in a part of the Park I understand. This was a great artical. Thank you so much. We live in beautiful Boise, Idaho. And have a cabin 30 miles from Yellowstone Park.

Living in Rapid City SD it is sometimes easy to take the beauty of Custer State Park for granted. I regularly ride my motorcycle through the park to enjoy the solitude and scenery. I wish more of my family and friends from UT would come out to share it with us. Go Cougs.

This is a great place to see. The park was wonderful. We camped every night and woke up to Bisan each morning too. Once at the front door of the rest rooms. We went to Mt. Rushmore every day for 5 days. We seemed to be pulled there everyday. A must place to see and visit by all.

I love this area of the USA. Helps me to feel the back to nature feeling that I miss so much. I first went through that area in 1969. Went to the wind caves with my ole pop. Loved the animals then to. Went back again in 1982. This place has a magic feel, I think it is because of the great Tatanka, and the Great Spirit, and the spirit of our Native peoples there! Go Aggies!

If you go to Custer State Park, don't miss the cave exploration in the park. There are many caves in the area, we found the one in the park to be the best of all (and the least expensive). A guide takes you down an elevator, and the experience is out of this world. It's really cool in the summer, a plus as well.
Do not miss the drive of the Needles Highway, the scenery is so wild you will have a hard time explaining it to others that it was in South Dakota. It rivals the national parks further west and in Canada for natural beauty.
