Please, someone needs to suggest to mine rescue officials the following suggestion:

Lower auto mechanic's light (w/light-bulb guard affixed), powered via battery and/or electric generator, and w/cowbell also attached just above handle of light. When it reaches it's destination, jiggle it up and down as to visibly and audibly attract attention to it. Also, attach note w/pen stating rescue is underway, they should pull on cord to acknowledge receipt and to reply back their current status.

This would hopefully "attract" the men, particularly if they're without light and in darkness, as sadly, the previous attempts via camera and clanging on steel pipes were to no avail...

Our thoughts and prayers for these miners, their families and the wonderful people working in their behalf!

Would it be possible to drill from the point where they are excavating the mine shaft? I recently visited a Geosciences Center in St. John's Newwfoundland where they have some amazing displays of the technology being used to drill for oil in the Hibernia Oil Field. They have a drill head that is only about 4 to 6 feet long and about 10 inches in diameter that can drill thousands of meters through oil-bearing rocks following oil seams. The drill head contains many sensors collecting data that geologists use to guide the head so as to follow the seams in complex three dimensional paths. I thought that perhaps this type of drill could follow the mine tunnel and reach the miners much more quicly than the current excavation?

As George Byrd suggested, his idea of using light would be great.May I add to the mix, a possible audio
message thru the use of a loudspeaker or tape recorded message cacaphonying thru the tunnel....

Would it be possible to get additional drill rigs to drill into other areas of the mine where the men might be?

Instead of drilling one hole at a time.
