I believe in tough enforcement though we need to fix the visa. I spoke with a farmer that I completely trust and he told me that most of his crop has rotted; no one to pick it. The bill that Congress did not pass had some scary junk in it, like National ID cards. We don't need that. We do need to continue to enforce the law though we also need to fix the visa and allow in truly migrant workers. There is an absolute need there. Period! And I read stories all the time about how these good people want to work in the US, make money then create jobs, etc back home. A good visa program would help us, help them and expand both economies though we have to enforce our laws. Without that we are headed in the wrong direction.
Sorry James about the rotted crop, but I wonder how they were harvested 25 years ago before there were 12-20 million illegal aliens in the country? Could it be that agricultural work is beneath the dignity of illegal aliens that prefer higher paying work in construction, domestic, hotels, processing plants, and etc? Money that they send home is eventually sucked up into Mexican corruption. We need to close the border and enforce the labor laws against employers. Not to worry however until we see real action. The President is withdrawing National Guard troops from the border. So what does that tell you?
