I don't believe that I've ever submitted an online comment for an article before. But I couldn't resist this time. President Faust is a true model for us all. I have come to love and respect this man throughout the years. Thank you President Faust, you will be missed.

What a wonderful man. One lady commented in this article that 20 years ago, President Faust came to her ward and before going into his meeting, he came over and took the time to take the cheeks of her 3yr olds face in his hands and whispered something into her ear, she commented on his kindness and that he did not know that her daughter would later on be very ill and be called to God early in her life. I wanted to write this article to let you know that ------------ He did know, thats why he did it. Love always, until we meet again.

I loved Pres. Faust with all my heart and I will miss his inspiring, wise talks. I learned a lot from his teachings. His life was an example of love for the gospel of our Savior. One of my goals was to see him one day, but his death won't prevent me from seeing him because I know that I will see him again, then I will hug him and say that he was a strong example in my life. I will miss Pres. James.

Elder Faust moved in to my ward when I was a teenager in the late '70s. A great inspiration to all the youth. I remember when he and Ruth briefly danced with all the youth at a ward dinner-dance. He tried to make a difference with everyone. He frequently visited the youth classes and quorums on Sunday and helped us feel God. I was grateful to know him.

I was very touched by President Faust talk at General Conference on the "Power of Forgiviness." I teach R.S. fourth Sunday and as I was studying his talk again to teach the sister an over powering feeling came over me to send a copy of his talk to my Aunt Nellie (not a member of the church) who has not spoken to her son in twelve years. When I was visiting with my Aunt in May she told me that she and her husband had just finished with their will. She proceeded to tell me she was not leaving one penny for her son and there was to be a closed gasket so her son Fred could not see them. I didn't know what the battle was all about between my Aunt, Uncle and cousin but I felt impressed to write her a letter along with the talk. My Mother who comes from a family of twelve have tried for twelve years to stop the battle. My cousin is now suffering with lung cancer and doesn't have long to live. In the letter I told my Aunt and Uncle to read President Faust talk and whatever the battle was about to forget it and move on. I told them I loved them and how much their son needed closure at this time. Two weeks after I wrote my Aunt she responed with a letter thanking me for my concern and was so touched by my pleding for them to get back together that they took the first step and took their son out to eat on Father's Day. She told me they never spoke of the past but would visit regularly. Oh, how grateful I am for President Faust example and the power of his talk. We will miss him. My deepest sympathy on your great loss.

I will miss Pres. Faust more than I can say. He touched my heart so many times and in ways nobody ever did. His words always touched my soul and made me feel special, eventhough he didnt know me at all. He made me feel that I can do anything I set my mind to do, and that no obstacle is ever too great if we have the Lord on our side. I met him many times over these 35 years in the church, and always felt the spirit with him. Although he is gone from this earth, he will always be in my heart.

I was greatly impressed when he and Elder Maxwell humbly and self-effacingly entertained questions from the audience at a priesthood leadership meeting 5 years ago. President Faust shared how Elder Maxwell was engaged in a personal ministry beyond his own calling in visiting those who were sick with cancer, and that he (President Faust) was also visiting with non-members in his neighborhood up the canyon as an extra-ministerial good will "hometeaching" effort. I'm sure that all our deceased Apostles are encountering many more friends with equal compassion and good will on the other side of the veil.

Sister Ruth, We wanted you to know that we are saddened by the loss of President Faust, but know he was a good man, a kind man, a real gentle-man. We had the occasion to meet Pres Faust a couple of years ago at a Church Auxilliary meeting. In fact, we attended this mostly social gathering because he was the Keynote Speaker. He was lively, spirited and fun, and spoke to the Doctors directly about thier value in serving others unselfishly. Later, he sat with us at our table for dinner and was so kind to everyone in the room who obvioulsy were touched by his message. We know he is feeling a measure of rest, the Saviors love and the joy that only comes from serving as he did. We will miss him, his messages, his voice, his kindness.
We extend our hand to you, oour prayers for your family as you honor his passing, and as your family misses him too.

I had the priviledge of seeing Elder Faust at Ricks College in Rexburg Idaho(as it was known) while on my mission in 1982.

I can remember the strong testimony of the Savior and the many references to his sweet wife.

This was an Apostle, a Prophet and Seer of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I joined the church in 1998. President Faust has been a guide and a comfort to me over the years. He always inspired me to live a better life, in a quiet, gentle way. I remember watching one of my first General Conferences and he related the Flexible Flyer story. One of my all time favorites. I have it in a binder and read it every Christmas with my family. He always had a way of showing us how to live the gospel in ways that were doable. I will miss him. My love and heart go out to his family and all that mourn his passing...He was truly a man of God.

Truly a great leader who was given what appeared to be a new lease on life when called to be Pres. Hinckley's counselor. I met him in 1990 when I brought a group of Soviet dignitaries to Salt Lake City. The Church requested to host them at a luncheon. Elder Faust, then not of the First Presidency, was our host. He told me he was the host because he was the only member of the 12 weak in health so he had to stay in town. Self effacing as usual. But he looked so weak. When he was called to be in the First Presidency I couldn't help but be shocked by how much better he looked. And, in fact, he looked far better these past 15 years than that day with the Soviets in SLC. We're grateful the Lord nourished and revived this good and talented leader.

Not only was President Faust a humble, kind man whose teachings should be emulated by all (read his talk on forgiveness again and his last article in the Ensign... you can never go wrong), but, like most of the First Presidency and the Twelve, had a humor that was completely his own.
My favorite memory of President Faust did not come from General Conference or the Ensign, but from something he said in the Church film, "Special Witness of Jesus Christ".I will never forget the first time I heard his testimony of the Savior while he was walking on the old foundation stones of the original Nauvoo temple. His humility was amazing. He emphasized that he was an ordinary man, with an extraordinary calling, then bore his testimony of Jesus Christ. My hair still stands on the back of my neck when I remember how he said that while he cannot speak of experiences deeply sacred, he said he knew of a certain surety that Jesus Christ lives, while staring directly into the camera. Look at his eyes. He knows. He probably has seen Him.
One of God's mouthpieces regretfully has passed, but thank heaven he is in a better place, where he can have a joyful reunion with those who have gone on before him...

We were at the Idaho Falls airport about 10 years ago. President Faust was leaving to return to Salt Lake and we spotted him in the terminal. All four of our kids shook his hand, and he spoke to each one individually. Our youngest son was about 9 years old at the time. President Faust pulled him close to him and gave him a big hug. I have a very tender memory of President Faust. About 20 years ago my then 3 year old daughter eagerly squirmed in her chair during a primary session of stake conference. She was determined to meet one of the Prophet's helpers. Elder Faust came to visit the children before going into meet with the general session. She got up and went to him. Much to my joy he took her little face into his hands and kissed her cheeks and whispered into her ear. The love he showed my daughter will always be imprinted on my mind. He didn't know how sick she was or that she would later die and go home to our Father in Heavenly Father. One of my most peaceful memories is of the both of them sharing a moment together. Thank You Sister Faust for sharing him with the rest of us.

I met and shook Pres. Faust's hand in the BYU Museum of Art when the "Christ Healing at the Pool of Bethesda" painting by Heinrich Bloch was unveiled as a recent acquisition. I did not think he was looking at me as his head seemed bend down, but when he shook my hand he said: "I had red hair once." He had seen me; I've got red hair. He cared about people and worked to lift them up as the Savior would do. I have appreciated his messages, especially the recent one on forgiveness and one on persevering when he recounted the story of the "The Little Engine that Could." "I think I can, I think I can."

I was priviledged to be in President Faust's ward several years ago. One Sunday between meetings my roommate and I were in the chapel and I heard a very
familiar voice say "I don't believe I know you girls. I'm James E. Faust." We were so dumbstruck I don't think either one of us could remember our names but we shook his hand and he introduced us to his wife. For him to single us out of all the people in the ward was so humbling. I truly felt that it was something the Savior would have done. I will always have a special place in my heart for my "friend" James E. Faust. May the Lord be with Sister Faust and the entire family at this difficult time. We love you.

I just want to thank the Deseret Morning News for not allowing the trash that has become all too common at that 'other' newspaper.

I was walking through the Avenues one afternoon several years ago and as luck would have it, I shared the sidewalk with Elder Faust for a block or two. He was out walking his dog and we chatted very briefly about what a beautiful day it was to be out for a walk. It was a simple, insignificant meeting, but was memorable in so many ways.

I learned of Pres. Faust's passing while teaching lessons in the Adult Detention Complex (jail) from one of the inmates. Although not a member, the foreign national expressed his feeling of loss of a "man of God." As I read the account here my heart was full and my tears welled up. He was and is a gift of light, a true disciple of Christ. He is in a better place, full of joy and the gifts of God will forever be his.

Having grown up in the Ward and Stake with Pres. Faust as our Stake President we all loved and adored him for his kindness, strong testimony and service. We loved his family. I have often thought that if critics could see the respect and adoration of our church leaders towards their sweet wifes there is no way they could question the important role of women as viewed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and its leadership and by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Pres. Faust revered his dear wife Ruth and loved his family. His love extended to all he came in contact with. What a wonderful surprise when he phoned my work after a hospital stay to thank the leaders and I happened to be the only one available - it was a tender and endearing chat. We will see him again in the hereafter.

Having never met Pres. Faust, why would I feel a deep sense of loss?
Because I won't be hearing him at General Conferences, which I have grown to appreciate these many years he has served. I distinctly remember the resonance of Spirit I felt when he was called to serve as an apostle. I feel comforted there will be voices in his place, but none quite like his. I deeply appreciate his poise, his emotional depth, intelligence, humilty and appropriate judgment. I will review his talks just to continue feeling his particular witness of the Spirit. God is great, God is gracious for it is He who sent us James Faust. To the Fausts, my condolances.

President Faust was a wonderful gracious caring leader, always concerned about people. I recall working with him on a Conference held in Miami, Florida where he presided. He personally asked me for a list of people to thank who put the meeting together. He had a great love for the Latin people who understood their needs. Always praising and kind to bring out the best in people. It seems like yesterday 1978 he become an Apostle and Special Witness for the Lord, his clarion testimony will be greatly missed. The last Single Adult Fireside he gave a remarkable address, down to earth and humble inspite of his mortal weaknesses, he lifted all Spirituallly even when not able to physically to do the lifting.

President Faust is the only apostle I have ever met. Two weeks after I was called to be a Bishop, in the Trona Ward, in Trona Ca. President Faust came to reorganize out Stake. We have truly been uplifted by this wonderful man. In our quest to be Disciples of Christ, we need only look at our First Presidency for the example. I will never forget the blessing he gave me during his last Conference address concerning Forgiveness. He was speaking directly to me and I kept telling him to stop, but I guess he couldn't hear me. hehe

Our gratitude is directed toward President Foust's survivors, they have sacrificed their time on our behalf and I know they are richly blessed for it. Just now when I saw the article stating that President Faust had died, tears immediately filled my eyes. My 4-year-old son asked what was wrong, why I had exclaimed, "Oh no!" I told him what had happened, and he asked why I was crying. I said I was crying because I was sad, and he asked why I was sad. I realized then that I shouldn't be sad; after all, the Gospel teaches us that this life isn't the end. President Faust lived a good, honest and exemplary life, and he is now able to be reunited with loved ones and especially with his Father in Heaven and Saviour Jesus Christ. So if anything, I should be extremely happy for him. I am grateful for this lesson my 4-year-old taught me, and I am grateful to President Faust for his life of service and love. My prayers are with his family, that they will be comforted during this time of loss.

    President Faust,
Thank you for speaking at my dad's funeral. I'm sorry I didn't give you the respect you deserved, though, I'm sure you forgave me for it. I have become a better person by your example of our Savior. My prayers are with your family that they may be comforted at this time. One day I hope to be like you. May you continue to touch the lives of those around you. You will be missed.

I'll never forget the talk he gave at Conference when he related the story of how his grandmother had asked him to bring in wood when he was a boy and he had failed to do it - later he saw her doing the task. Probably the most poignant talk I heard -- and best glimpse into the goodness of President Faust's soul, was when he recounted the story of not helping his grandmother get some firewood:

"As a small boy on the farm during the searing heat of the summer, I remember my grandmother Mary Finlinson cooking our delicious meals on a hot woodstove. When the wood box next to the stove became empty, Grandmother would silently pick up the box, go out to refill it from the pile of cedar wood outside, and bring the heavily laden box back into the house. I was so insensitive and interested in the conversation in the kitchen, I sat there and let my beloved grandmother refill the kitchen wood box. I feel ashamed of myself and have regretted my omission for all of my life. I hope someday to ask for her forgiveness."

Tears were streaming down his face and he had difficulty speaking because he felt so sorry not helping his grandmother. It provided a great view of the absolute integrity of this beloved man. I learned so much from President Faust and grieve with millions of other Saints at his passing.

Tears immmediately came to my eyes and I felt moved to pray for his family, and to again thank my Heavenly Father for the blessing of living on this earth with Prophets and Apostles such as President Faust! His kind face was always most welcome at conference, and his testimony even more so. Thank you for sharing your husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather with all of us.

First, our deepest thoughts and prayers are with President Faust's family. What a tribute to a man to have his children comment on his love and respect for his sweet wife. The world would be a better place if more women were treated as such, felt important and given the opportunity to be good mothers because they felt loved and respected. What a great challenge to all the men who read this to commit today to follow this great example. Heavenly Father expects this from you and your sweethearts and children need this from you. Thank you to the Faust family for supporting President Faust in his service to the Lord and all people. We have all been greatly blessed.

First to the family of President Faust, my sincere condolances. Having lost my husband eight years ago, I understand the feelings of loss that come with death, I also understand the feeling of elation in the knowledge that this is just a short separation and that his family will be reunited with him forever..The thing I most remember about President Faust is that when he spoke I felt the spirit...THAT has been a blessing to me in my life. Thank you and bless you all.

Secondly, my heart goes out to a post entered earlier by Micheal (didn't post last name). I will pray that your heart will come to the knowledge that your opinion is not based on fact or truth, but a desire of other men to destroy what they can't understand. May you learn as a christian that forgiveness not judgement is the truth Christ taught and may the Lord bless you to understand the truth in your lifetime. I'm so sorry others have twisted the truth and taught you to be unkind and hateful towards others. It makes my heart very sad indeed.

This news hit me hard. I grew up really respecting him and enjoying his talks as I found my own testimony. When I served my mission in Portugal and he came with Elder Holland, I was amazed that after sixty years, he still spoke fluent Portuguese. We have lost a great man, and I hope he will live on a little in our own examples.

My heart and prayers go to Sister Faust and to your Family. President Faust's last talk in April's conference was the boost I needed to take care of a situation with my former husband that had been going on for 20 years. During the talk, I e-mailed him and expressed to him my feelings and asked forgiveness of anything I might have done to cause some of the difficulties. The spirit so prompted me to write to President Faust, and after a week I received a signed letter from him in return. A letter I will treasure always. What an amazing Gospel we are a member of. I had just finished taking President Hinckley's portrait and was kneeling down packing my gear up outside in the hallway when I felt a very strong hand on my shoulder and then someone reached around and began stroking my beard in a teasing fashion. I looked up to see President Faust smiling down at me. He didn't say a word. But I said, yes I know I need to shave it off. And I did. That was the type of man he was, gentle, yet persuasive. That was not my only encounter with President Faust over the years, but certainly one of the most memorable. I know he has left a lasting legacy with his poignant, inspiring words and counsel. Elder Faust had a surpringly gentle way, a great grandfatherly influence of wisdom and kindness. We found ourselves touched and influenced by his words. How can this be? Perhaps it is because there is and was a certain noble goodness about the man that endeared him to us. He influenced, taught, lifted us...in ways we did not expect. We don't know much, but we know this man was a servant, a godly man. We did not know him. He did not know us. Yet his influence remains. And, so, we love him.

As a life long member of the Church, perhaps no other talk touched me more deeply than Elder Faust's final conference address, "The Healing Power of Forgiveness". Elder Faust was a wise, gifted, and insightful speaker. But his messages carried meaning to me because of who he was - not jut what he said. He seemed to be innately in tune with circumstances of our time, including our need to repent, forgive and live the "Weightier Matters of the Law". In that address, Elder Faust reminded us that,

" Jesus introduced a higher and more difficult standard of human conduct. It is simpler as well as more difficult because it focuses on internal rather than external requirements: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. 3 Love your neighbor as yourself. 4 When smitten, turn the other cheek. 5 When asked for a coat, give your cloak also. 6 Forgive, not just once but seventy times seven. 7 This was the essence of the new gospel. There was more emphasis on do than do not. More moral agency was given to each of us."

How I will miss Elder Faust.

President Faust to me emulated something all of us desire to have more of-compassion on others, and in an unspoken way pleaded for members of the church to live their religion, repent of our sins, and learn how to forgive and serve others. that seems to be a theme he carried through his life. Thank You for giving us President Faust. thats the impact he has on me.

Shocked is how I felt when I heard the news. I imagined the sorrow president Hinckley must feel, loosing such a close friend, counselor, and confidant. I felt pain for his family and how they will miss this gentle, loving man. And I immediately thought of some of the most treasured messages I have heard from president Faust in general conference: About a little lamb bleating in a thunderstorm and a boy not wanting to get out of bed; about a grandmother carrying her own wood for her fire and a man later feeling such shame for having been so selfish; and about a son wanting a cheap toy but receiving an unwanted ring instead. All seemed to carry the same thought: a humble recognition and desire to be more sensitive to others. On my mission I learned from president Faust one of the greatest lessons of life: "A sensitive conscience is the sign of a health spirit." I have tried to live by those words. It has made such a difference for me.

I met President Faust when he was in our stake to reorganize the stake presidency in June of 1978. He met with about 20 stake and ward leaders in the course of that assignment. When he entered the room, every man there rose to their feet. We all had the strongest feeling that we ought to be standing out of respect for the spirit we felt. He assured us that the Lord had already selected the new stake president. The responsibility he had was simply to identify that person. With a smile he then said, "I have come to know that this marvelous power (revelation) works...even through me." Only a few months later he was called to serve in the Quorum of the Twelve.

We will all miss his example of sweet tenderness and his humble but powerful and sure testimony of the Savior.

President Faust once told a story about him being a young boy sitting by the fireplace, watching his grandmother as she kept going out into the cold getting firewood for the family dinner? I think. He just sat and watched. As he told the story, tears streamed down his face, as he remarked on how he was so selfish that day, and he wanted so much to tell his grandmother he was sorry. I was so touched by that story, and have tried to live by that principle ever since. He was humble, meek, intelligent, and sincere. Also - he had red hair. =). I LOVE you, President Faust. May Heavenly Father's choicest blessing's be with your family at this time.

I have always loved this strong and tender leader. We will all miss him and truly, the world is a little more empty for us all. But what joy for him and truly, his wonderful wife, family, and his Brethren will be our family's prayers! We are so grateful for his constant service.

Sad day for many. Blessings to his family. But, a great day for him because we all know where he is. May we all live our lives in such as a way so as to reflect his.

We've never met President Faust in person, but that does not mean than we can't love and respect him and count him a great blessing in our lives. We have listened with interest and real intent as he has taught all of us through the years. We hope we can live as he taught.

This was really sad news though we have been able to see that president Faust was getting older and weaker lately. President Faust was indeed a good example and I will miss listening to him and even interperet his talks to Norwegian during General Conferences.

My thoughts and prayers goes to his family at this time!

Every time I listened to President Faust or read something he had written, his manner exuded patience and kindness. Whatever feelings I may have had at the time, I always felt peaceful and was lifted up after hearing him. I will miss his calming influence.
