I knew Luther well in college at Seton Hall and saw first-hand how his "family and friends" pushed him to a life he never accepted. All Luther was ever interested in was music and to be treated like everyone else.

I'm happy that Luther finally seems to have found his way.

I knew Luther at Seton Hall and am saddened by what happened to him. It saddens me to hear that people were only interested in him for his height. It is so sad when coaches take away your love and passion for a sport. It's even worse when the never ask or try to find out what it is that you really want to be or what it is that you enjoy doing.

I hope that all the Coaches who read this article find it in their hearts to take more interest in their players in other areas other than their playing abilities.

I am so glad to know that Luther has turned his life around and has become involved in a Church.

I met Luther in Salt Lake he was playing for the Utah Jazz, he is kind and playful, it was a blessing to have met him and his family, his Uncle helped me out and doesn't even know how much of an asset in my own recovery. It is a blessing to read that Luther is on the road to recovery, I am celebrating 15 years clean and sober, and 8 years of Salvation, it's great to see the move of God in others. May God continue to Bless Luther and his family.

This story is so sad. I remember as a freshman at Elizabeth High School seeing Luther walking the halls. He was enormous, and no one could take their eyes off him. Kids would yell out "Yo Luther!"...he was literally the big man on campus and seen as a celebrity.

How tragic that he was taken advantage of by his family and his NBA contract money was squandered. I hope he's able to start a new life.

luther was i real good kid, i met him when he was a freshman at elizabeth hs., he didn't have the drive that the other kids had when it came to sports, he was more interested in music and girls like any normal kid his age.. well that was a long time ago at the ymha in union nj.. i didn't see luther for about 10 years and one day he was walking past the police station where i work and i said "luther, how you been" he walked up to me and gave me a big hug.. like i said a real good kid...i know luther will make it.. now that he's headed in the right direction...

I wish you good luck and i am so glad you have your life back on track i have had a stroke. i had 2 hrs to live i thank God that he let me live and you. i had the stroke in 2003 it has been 5yrs. tell your family that i said be blessed.

Big Fella, During your hard travels from Elizabeth, to Seton Hall,to Utah and now back home, there has been one constant that is, GOD has been walking with all this time. We may have let you down, when you needed us the most, but GOD has had your back from day one. Keep telling your story, BIG GUY, some kid needs to hear it. Great read, I live in Utah and I always wondered what happend after the whole rest area highway incodent. Great to hear Luther is still kicken and trying his best. Keep with the music and the love of God and everything will truly be alright.

Hi Luther*
Im sure you do not remember me. I met you and your family in Utah, right before you got sick. I spent time with your family in New Jersey shortly after you all moved. I am so sorry for all of your hardships and will keep you in my prayers. I often think of your mother and her wonderful cooking, your sister, and brother Reggie. May God continue to bless every step you take.
