I do not believe that the religious freedoms given to America by the forefathers of the Constitution, were given with such a view in mind, that such freedoms would supercede the best interests of society. If a certain sect's beliefs harm what is believed to be the overall good of the citizens of America, such beliefs will necessarily be subject to regulations to restrain any harmful behaviour. However, society's definition of what "harmful" is, is most certainly changing from year to year. There is much debate about the meaning of that word. The rights and freedoms given to the American people in the 1700's were far easier to regulate in that time period than in the wide diversity of religions and sects and cults that exist today.
