While I believe that the mother in this article who told her little girl that "its not you, its just the color of your skin" while meaning well, has also been effected by the sickness of racism. When someone treats a child with disdain and hatred it is never because of the skin tone of that child; rather because of the mind of that individual who has allowed their spirit to become infected by racism. This must be clear if we as God's children are to stay pure. And as a lifelong member of the LDS faith, an 8+ year resident of Utah and a white man engaged to be married to a wonderful black woman, I earnestly pray for and look forward to the day that the entire church (my family and myself included) can come to terms with the reality of white privilege and how it has plagued our world.
