It's a known psychological fact that an activity held in high regard as being evil and bad (such as masturbation or pornography) will be one of the more prevelant activities of any society.
Humans are naturally curious. If you spend your ENTIRE LIFE such as mormons do to trying to avoid a situation and push it out of their mind; a time will come when they WILL succumb to it. Once they do they're hooked. NORMAL people do not have this problem.
It's like growing up with beer drinking parents. A child growing up seeing their parents drink in moderation is LESS likely to become an alchoholic than a child whom is told that alchohol is the devil and is to be avoided.
