Good Advise!!

Let Jesus Take the Wheel!!
shadow | 12:15 p.m. Feb. 18, 2008
Unfort. Jesus never had a driver's test in his life. Never finished high school. IN fact, all we know is that he was a carpenter. And that fact comes from faith. There is no certificate of graduation from anything.

If Jesus takes the wheel we will all take vows of poverty and serve the poor. Like he told us to do. Lots of homes up on the east side of the valley would be vacant.

Wow, could be a buyer's market!

Careful what you advocate.

The shadow knows.

Lame "the shadow knows" fip-oof from the '50's radio show.

"Say Good night Shadow".
"Good Night Shadow".

A lot of people speak on behalf of jesus. Some drive on his behalf, according to their bumper stickers.
Some of them must be wrong.
I don't know, necessarily, what true discipleship of jesus looks like, any more than anyone else. I don't imagine it involves support of war. Or guns in church, or the destruction of the environment. Or pride, or the gluttony of overconsumption.

Shadow: good call sign. You are beating a dead horse, however. In today's society, from Utah to Maine, from Oregon to Alabama, people worry about their next pay check, house payment, and looking better than their neighbor. Helping, aiding, sharing... those are hard things to do when you have to get the latest tv model, computer, or car.

I always like the fact that Jesus was never a Christian. Thoughts like that make me wonder wonder when the sky is full and the moon is yellow, and the leaves come a'tumblin down: what's it all about Alfie?

Wow, I laughed pretty hard at the shadow's comments! Thanks for making my day buddy. I love when people see things in a different light. And make people stare at them in confusion and wonder while doing it.

Fools mock... but they shall mourn. Regardless of what you believe, Christ is an example of love and charity. A quality which would lead to a lot less suffering and a lot more progress if we as the human race would just embrace these virtues.

The world we live in has changed. Education isn't something people used to worry about. My father was a successful cattle rancher and I think dropped out of school in about 6th grade. He struggled with reading, writing and arithmetic. When I graduated from a business school 45 years ago, that was enough and I landed good jobs. Entering the job market now, I find I need at least an Associates Degree or many employers won't even talk to me. I don't have the degree won't be getting it--but it limits my choices and also my salary.
I hope our young people take President Hinckley's advice and get as much education as they can.

Education is not the main problem, it's the hollowing out of our industrial base and offshoring of jobs. Lots of educated people are getting laid off. Whatever works for each couple works.
PhD | 3:34 p.m. Feb. 19, 2008
I find it puzzling that the Church leaders strongly encourage education, but the Church has such a dismal view of people who are "educated." People with advanced degrees are treated with disdain; the are treated with suspicion; they are talked about behind their backs; they are marginalized.

So how is it that the Church plays this conflicting game? They encourage education but discriminate against the educated??
Twist | 3:50 p.m. Feb. 19, 2008
The church leaders do good in advising education and learning. Of course as people become better educated and learned they will come to question the validity of the church history and teachings and the church leaders will enjoy fewer followers. It is good that the leaders are selfless and willing to work themselves out of their jobs. It is a sign of a true leader.

What is this article from September, 2006 doing among the "most popular", I wonder?

Probably because some of the most Un-Christian expressions have found their way onto several sections recently, and those making such comments have been avowed "active" LDS.

But here is what I find odd: The Church Leaders tell the members to follow Christ, but then they also tell their members to follow the Brethren.

Now the faithful LDS believe these to be always compatible. But I have learned through the Spirit of Christ that they are NOT always compatible -- sometimes (much more often than you might believe, in fact), you have to choose between following the Brethren OR following Christ.

Let me just share one instance:

"And John [the Mormon leader] answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. [he was Catholic!]
But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
For he that is not against us is on our part (Mark 9:3840).
Jerry | 4:22 p.m. Feb. 19, 2008
What is important is that casting out devils is an explicit use of God's power and authority - what the LDS call the "priesthood," and which they contend ONLY exists in THEIR Church.

And yet the LDS Church leaders spend a great deal of time and effort denying other churches' "authority" and legitimacy in performing acts in God's name (ordinances, healings, blessings, prayers, etc.). In short, the LDS Church's official doctrine "forbids" these other Church's doing anything in Jesus' name by denying their power, authority, and legitimacy.

But I believe Jesus. Forbid them not. Those that are not against Jesus are on His side.

Have no clue as to what you're talking about.

Have you taken your medication today?

To PhD and you others who have an ax to grind
and EGO to share:

You ought to be glad that LDS Church owned Deseret News is "open enough" for you all to post your
spiteful and mean comments.

Jesus loves you too. I believe that the top
LDS Church leaders honestly DO Try their Best
to do the will of the Lord and pass THAT on
to the Church members.

It's easy to get really caught up on EGO when it
comes to getting higher higher education from institutions of mankind.

However, that achievement pales compared to the
Omniscience of God. True Education is a journey...
Not an arrival place. Sometimes it easy for us
mortal humans to get caught up in our own achievements.

The truly educated KNOW that they Know very little
and that keeps them humble. By Knowing that they
Know very little causes them to be very hesitant
to make quickie judgements.

The LDS Church leaders do a lot of praying to tap
into a much richer source of intelligence before
saying much. They know they don't know it all.

God Bless...
