i have been diping for, a few years now. i started when i had a dip from one of my freinds during a football game.i am 16 an started 3 yrs ago. the only reason i quit was i got caught on a bus ride from a school event. i never planned to start or to quit, i was never addicted and just basically liked the taste. so, i guess if you like it keep doin it, if not quit. dont do it b/c you have to, do it b/c you want to.

I have been chewing for 22 years. Just typing that statement scares me. I'm 37.

My folks smoked, my grandparents smoked, everyone I knew as a kid smoked. I got introduced to chew as a kid up here in Minnesota, and I liked it. I hated smoking, but thought chewing was ok.

I still like it, but it's gonna kill me if I keep doing it.

My chew of choice is Kodiak, but I can do anything, Copenhagen, Skoal..whatever, it's the habit that hooked me.

I quit today. Chantix is my helper...so far, so good. It really kills the urge for me. Whatever you can do to quit, just quit.

Whatever you do guys, just find any way to quit that you can.

Im 38 and have been a dipper for 21 years. I have quit many times and always found a reason to start again. Until now Do these 3 things if you want to live. #1 Stop going to convenience stores. They have what you want. #2 Don't drink! for a while or until you feel pretty strong. Weakens the defence system. #3 When you feel the need to dip. Ask yourseld this question. Do I want to be on my death bed from cancer saying I just wish I tried harder. Don't kid yourself DIP is one POWERFUL DRUG calling you to continue down its path. It is way more addictive than cigarettes because the convenience. Thus you will need to avoid the convenience stores. Good luck, X-Addict

bk | 7:58 p.m. June 20, 2009
almost every guy in my school dips. its cuz we can get it so easily and its easy to get away with. most of us dont really pay much attention to the fact that we can look like the guy in the picture. my friends gums bleed when he dips now. we all go through about 3 tins a day on average. the stuff is good. the fact is you do it for 2 reasons. you wanna be like everyone else or you give in to a friend convincing you to do it. my reccomendation is quit but no one is telling yall what ta do. im a fan of skoal peach and apple. at this point anything that comes in a tin works for me.
huntinevrydy | 12:03 a.m. June 27, 2009

I was surprised to learn that dipping tobacco contains over 3,000 chemicals and 28 known carcinogens that can cause cancer.

There is a nicotine-free mint chew that users say tastes good and is very satisfying, and helps addicts to quit tobacco dipping.

The company that makes it has a Dipstop Program that they claim works for 90% of even long-time users. Just Google it.

It takes about three weeks to clear out the nicotine from your body. Distraction, exercise, chewing gum, and sipping from a big cup of ice water can be helpful.

Also try Quitsmokeless.org which has good stories and lots of other links.

Interesting note: Dipping tobacco is illegal in Australia, New Zealand, and most of Europe.
Nick | 5:52 a.m. June 27, 2009
Dipping is easy to quit. I quit, 4 or 5 times a week. To be honest, I have been dipping for 22 years, and have been quitting for about 21 plus. Sometimes I can quit for a few hours.

I guess it's pretty addictive.
To the men | 11:27 a.m. June 27, 2009
How do your lady friends feel about this stuff?

The spit looks really gross, it makes your face look bulgy, and the taste from kissing is awful.

Addiction is sad.

But that's just one girl's opinion.

Eddie | 12:55 p.m. June 27, 2009

Me and my sister have a dad whos been chewing this stuff fer like a couple months. My mom and the rest of us tell him its really gross and to stop. he doesnt listen. Why would anybody chew this crud?? And why would any one make it?! My sister (emily) once stole the can out of his pocket at a bon fire and she threw it in the fire. It was great! Now we hid another can.Good luck to any quitters.
Matt | 1:43 p.m. July 25, 2009
I hear all of these statistics on how dangerous chew and dip is but I've known so many people who do it and while they sometimes have tooth loss, I've never known anyone to get cancer from it unless they also smoked cigs. I dunno.
MIKE | 9:39 p.m. July 25, 2009
i've been chewing copenhagen longcut and redman for that last 3 years or so i've been trying to quit and have discovered that sunflower seeds, gum and tobaccoless chew are the only things that have prevented me from chewing its been almost a month since i've dipped and still goin' strong. i'm from a small town in arizona where every body and there mother dipped trust me i know how hard it is to quit but hang in there its worth it.
Me | 10:39 p.m. July 28, 2009
I've been chewing for 11 years now. Started smoking, played bball and had to quit smoking so I chewed. I've tried quiting on numerous occassions but always seem to relapse for one reason or another. I blame myself and think of myself as a weak peson, in addition to that chewing has caused a great stress for my friends and family. Starting today after reading all of these posts I'm going to put my can down again...i hope and pray that this time it's for good.

Put It Down | 10:48 p.m. July 28, 2009
THIS IS LITERALLY NOT WORTH IT....LIBERATE YOURSELF AND QUIT....ASK GOD FOR HELP.
Ryan | 1:45 a.m. Aug. 1, 2009
Every guy in my family chews or chewed and has never got cancer going back generations I was just wondering now that I do will I?

hey Ryan | 8:57 a.m. Aug. 1, 2009
The answer to your question is two-fold:
1) Keep chewing & see if you do, or
2) Stop, in which case the answer will be a definite NO.

i live in a reservation called waycocomagh im 12 years old and ive been chewing around two years, i take whatever i get mostly skoal and redman favorite is citris, i also smoke unhealthy but i love smoking PTs and cigs while im chewing it gives me the most awesome feeling i feel like a could fly haha i know the risks but i still do it, i tried to quit but failed several times, my brother, mother, and father wants me to quit including my uncles and cousins, some of my other family members chew though and about 80 percent of the people where i live chew tobacco and smoke and when i want to quit so many people around me chew/smoke i just can't stop and i get the worst craving ever, one time i got caught trying to chew in class, i went under my desk took a pinch and dropped my can spilled most if it, then i quickly asked the teacher to use the bathroom, i cleaned the chew off my pants and stuff when i came back everyone found out.. and i had to hand over my chew (Dontchew inclass) haha

katie | 4:36 p.m. Aug. 12, 2009
my boyfriend has been chewing for 9 years now. he just recently got a sore on his lip i told him it was a cold sore but it hasnt gone away. hes convinced its oral cancer and hes scared to death. hes so scared that hes now trying to quit. i didnt care that he chewed at all and then i saw all these pictures of after mass of oral cancer. i have never chewed so i cant imagine how hard it is to stop. iev read that its extremely rare for someone to have oral cancer that doesnt frequiently smoke or chew so its easy to prevent if you never start and if you never start you cant get addicted
cpatrick17 | 5:57 p.m. Aug. 14, 2009
Thank you for telling your story, lets hope people can get it. As my dad just said if you play with the devil the devil will win. he is 74 yr old and has been chewing beachnut for the past 50 yr and was just told yesterday that he has mouth cancer.
Matt | 12:20 a.m. Sept. 17, 2009
I have been dipping Kodiak for nearly 20 years. I quit 5 years ago and stayed off the junk for nearly 3 years. Stumbled home one night from a bar and stopped into a convenience store, bought a can and slowly started back up. Quit again six months ago and started back up 3 months ago. Four weeks ago, I found a lesion on the side of my tongue, went to the dentist for a checkup and they said to call back in in two weeks if it was still there. Now, I'm trying to schedule an appointment with an ENT doctor to have it checked for cancer. I'm awake right now because I'm worried that my six week old daughter will one day be fatherless, or have a disfigured, miserable father. Saturday night is my target quit night this time. Hopefully for good, and hopefully I will have a clean bill of health, God willing.

i have been dipping for about a year now i love it, but dont wanna do it forever. its a very good stress relever and has prvented me from doing drugs do to my stress. its not a solution and i believe i do it for the wrond reason im not sure if im addicted never tried to quit but for those who have chewed for a long time is it worth it?
Chris | 1:13 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
OK, Im 37, been chewing for since I was 11, that's 26 years for the record. I am not proud of my habit, but it's a choise I made along time ago. If your thinking of trying it, do yourself a favor, DON'T. Were all resposible for our actions, chew kills roughly 15-20% of the people who do it long term (20 yrs or more). For the last 26 years, I have been willing to take the risk and I have been addicted. My wife is pregnant & due in 5 months, the thought of dying and leaving my wife behind and child is unsettling to say the least. It's time to address the issue of quitting, Quitting is like going to war with your self, "One must be stong and stay the course"

i have been chewin since the age of thirteen i am 15 and you know i love it i love the taste of my copenhagen and i probly wont stop the only reasob people get lip cancer is because they chew the cheap stuff with fiberglass in it which lets the tar in if you cant chew cope then dont chew at all!i always brush four times a day that is a key thing too

My Granddad bought me my first pouch of Red Man chew for my 8Th B-Day im 26 now and ive chewed ever since I still have all my teeth and no mouth problems and I still chew today as a matter of fact i have a dip in right now... So no stories about what "COULD" happen are going to scare me I could get hit by a drunk driver on my way home from work tonight or i could go to bed when i get home and just not wake up theres all sorts of stuff that "COULD" happen. But to each is own.

Jason | 1:16 p.m. Nov. 16, 2009
Like most people I started from a friend who was doing it. I did use it as an alternative to smoking cigarettes. It worked. I no longer smoke cigarettes now. But before you know it you are hooked to chew. It freaks me out what can happen (potentially) to you. So I recently quit, I was losing my mind from the nicotine withdrawls. My friend recommended getting a nicotine patch or the nictorine gum. I went with the 2mg gum. It saved me from going insane. So there is a freebee for you if you are trying to quit and having a hard time. GET THE GUM. I know it is something else to quit then but heck it beats the hell out of relapsing to tobacco. Good Luck! You can do it!
Anonymous | 10:39 a.m. Nov. 17, 2009
I had my first dip at age 12 and really got into it at age 14. The past 5 years i dipped more than two rolls a week. Now I am down to one can a week and I hope that with the encouragement of family and friends I can finally quit. For people who are just now starting or have not been dipping for very long I would highly advise you to stop now, it can ruin your life and relationships. For non-users dont even start it. It will be the best decision of your life. God bless you all!
c | 2:03 p.m. Nov. 27, 2009
You just start with one dip, then it turnes into i every two weeks, then every week, then every day, then a can a day. thats what happened to me. i am 16 and have chewed since 8th grade. the buzz is great at first, then it turnes into you having to chew just to feel normal. i know you have heard this a billion times but it is soo hard to quit and if you do , easy to start up again. i regret the day that i tooke my first chew, it was the worst mistake of my life, and to all you 16 year olds in my situation, all of your friends do it and pay no attention to the risk, but it is there and very high!!!! Dont start! it just spirals out of control. and if you do chew, quit while you are ahead before it comes near impossible to quit because it will!!!!!!
