I have been dipping for app 5 years and it is the hardest thing to stop. For the past couple of months i have been trying extremly hard to stop. I encourage anoyone who is debating about quitting to do so. i know it is a fun thing to do with your friends but the more you and your friends do it, the less time in the long run you will have to spend with each other. Atleast take one step foreward in trying to quit. If you fail, thats ok. How many tries did it take for Edison to invent the light bulb?

After reading these comments I have decided to confront my partner with a "tough love" situation. She has been dipping off and on for years; the last two more on than off. I have viewed the photos of the individuals with most of their jaws gone and pieces of teeth and tongue remaining. I am horrified and sick to my stomach to think that she could just as easily succumb to that unspeakable disfigurement due to this disgusting, preventable habit. I realize that this is an addiction but I am not going to make it easy for her anymore. Thanks for listening...

Wow, I dip a can a day. Im 21 now, and started a little over a year ago. I tried to stop once, but a friend offered me a dip (after about a week) and i just couldnt pass it up, although I wanted to. I see on here that some people have recomended mint snuff. What exactly is that? Is it not dangerous? I want to stop because I do recognize all the bad that comes with dip.. However, I think anyone that dips would agree that Dip is so relaxing. I really wish that dip didnt cause health/oral problems. Unfortunatly it does... I still dont know if Im going to quit, I was actually about to make a trip to the gas station to buy some before I got on this site. Good luck to all of you out there trying to quit.

the thing that bows my mind about this stuff is when i dont have any in my mouth its the only thing i want... i sometimes buy a tin before food, but the second i toss one all i want to do is quit.
this article is dirty though i really wouldnt mind keeping my jaw... i think its time to quit

I'm a dipper. Man,this stuff is bad. yeah the buzz and flavor is all good, but man, this stuff will kill you in the end. I cant stop, and i really want to. i hate dip so much now. for those of you who havent done it, dont ever do it. its just as bad, if not worse, as smoking. this can kill you quick.
Bryan | 2:29 a.m. Feb. 26, 2008
I dipped cope snuff for probably about 5 years or so. I quit a year and a half ago,and the only reason i was able to is because i moved to germany, where they dont have dip. but im glad i did. still i have cravings for it. i still think "man if i could just get a pinch right now..." i even dream about it sometimes. its true what stuart says. most people really are lifetime addicts. but,it gets easier and easier every day to push it off,and deal with it. its possible to quit if you have the desire. heck i understand the people who dont wanna quit, its fun to dip. but its also risky.

Some of these comments are ludicrous. If you dip, it is not matter of if you will get cancer, it's when. Go to www.quitsmokeless.org and talk to some real men that are quitting every day.

I used Copenhangen for ten years -- from age 21 to 31. I've bee free of it for four years now. I consider quitting to be the most difficult thing I did in my life. If you chew, never quit trying to quit and don't be discouraged by failed attempts. What worked for me? Finding a friend to hold me accountable by checking in on me regularly. If I had to do it again, I would join a support group. Admit you need help and that you can't do it by yourself. Come up with a plan that involves other people helping you and make it happen. Make goals. For me, I made three big goals. They were to make it three days, three weeks and then three months without using snuff. Do whatever it takes to stay off the stuff. For me, that involved chewing large amounts of Orbit gum. It's such a relief to be free from the fear of an early and un-natural death. I want to be around for not only myself, but my wife and children. Take care and good luck to you!

I'm in high school and I know im too young to dip but I like it and i dont dip enough to get cancer...yet. if there are any parents reading this i want you to preach to your kids to be honest about tobacco. Don't be ignorant parents. your kid, especially in high school, has probably tried tobacco. most kids do tobacco in my school at least. dont think..ohh not my kid. he wouldnt. because he would. tobacco IS a problem among teens. He can and will get away with it if you are ignorant about it. Tell your kids about the health risks but let them make the decision on their own. If they want cancer, they probably deserve it. and craig, your a worthless moron. You are the kind of person who tells everybody you chew so they think you are a hotshot. let me tell you. your pretty sweet man. awesome.
=) =( =) =( | 6:13 p.m. March 4, 2008
well if i chewed i would hate it and i think it is dumb!!!!!!!!!!
Josh | 11:37 a.m. March 5, 2008
There are a few reasons to dip but none of them are GOOD reasons, I started smoking in high school, at which point i was depressed and didn't care. I would smoke after school usually everyday. If i didn't have a smoke it wouldn't bother me, In tenth grade i started dipping grizzly wintergreen, straight, natural, didn't matter, about a week later i couldn't go a day without smoke or chew. Chew is WAY more addictive than cigarettes. I started smoking at 14 and Started chewing just before i turned 15, now I am almost 18. It sucks because i have been kicked out of a lot of things i love to do. Don't start dipping, or you will most likely regret it for the rest of your life.

I started when I was 15,i'm now 35. I chew 2 cans of grizzley a day. I have had other addictions in the past that I conqured but not this one. This is the worst addiction to have, and yes that includes "hard drugs". I fear it might get me...

We just found out my boss has cancer on the back of his tongue. They said they would have to remove his jaw to get to it. I guess i wondered if they would put it back or if he will lose it like you. He is a heavy smoker. Anyway, thanks for sharing your story, I am glad you are a survivor. I have another friend who had cancer removed at the top of his mouth and had that little thing in the back of your throat removed. He is doing well, no chemo or anything. He was lucky. But i don't know that my boss will be as lucky this time.

you wanna kno the easiest way to quit, truthfully if you take some of your dip and dip for about 3 days into 1 bottle.. after those 3 days your bottle should be full once the bottle is full.. drink the dipspit it will make you sick and then every time you see dip you will never have the craving again trust me i did it its a screwed up way to quit but it really works well.. i promise

you can call 1-800-eat-mint to get mint (fake chew) I'm 34 now and have had anxiety attacks from chewing so long. I started chewing when I was 18 all the way up to 31 when I started getting a racey heart , dizzy , off balance. My dr. said that chew effects every orgin in your body including your central nervous system. Yes , I still chew even though I know it can cause a stroke. I truly believe it caused me anxiety & depression since neither of my parents had this problem..
Huss | 8:54 p.m. March 26, 2008

Taran | 12:06 a.m. March 30, 2008
I have been chewing tobacco for about 2 years started when i was 13, and i love it, i put in huge dips for hockey, in class, at lunch hour, on the bus ride home, and right now, and i absolutley love it, my lip seems to have no damage done to it, i dont get cravings for chew, and i can go days without it, so i honestly think that people who are "addicted" to it are only addicted to it as a hobby and should jsut get a new one
Javen | 7:42 a.m. March 31, 2008
Im 15 years old. I tried dip for my first time during the middle of the summer of 2008. I Liked it and began doing it but very rarely and when i had a can it would last me 2-3 weeks. I was paranoid of mouth cancer at 1 point but now im not. Ive just recently told my mom that i dipped, and now she buys it for me. Im trying not to let that be an excuse to let me do it a lot more often now but it kind of is. Im trying hard to keep it to a limit once if not twice a day.
anonymous | 5:41 p.m. March 31, 2008

I've been chewing since I was about 17 and I'm now 20. Working in the woods as a logger and a firefighter I was around older guys who always chewed and I began. I'm in college now and a bunch of my friends do as well. I want to quit and I know I should quit but not sure how. If anybody has some good suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. My lips have been getting raw from chewing so much. A can used to last me a couple weeks now its only a couple of days. After reading some of the postings I'm aware of what could happen and don't want them to happen to me. Got any suggestions?

I am 20 yrs old and my boyfriend recently started dipping after his roomate started. He nows chews almost a tin a day and I hate it. Most of his family smokes and he despises them for it, but i can't get him to realize that he is doing something just as stupid. We have a long life to live ahead of us and I don't want live it w/out him, or with him having cancer, or anything removed. If anyone has suggestions about trying to convince someone else to quit help me out?
mike | 9:22 p.m. April 3, 2008
I used to love dip because my baseball buddies got me into it and i thought it was good but i recently found that my gums were getting white spots and am worried about mouth cancer. I am only 17 but realised i want to quit because i would rather have my jaw then a pinch. Try to stop its worth it.
God bless

My husband has been chewing since he was about 20. (he's 36 now)He has tried to quit 3 times, with the patch and nicotine free herbal chew. We have a 15 mos. old son and he has a 7 yr. old from a previous marriage. I can't imagine what his children or I would go through if he were to get cancer and die, or have to have his face or tongue cut up! I don't think he would want to live if he were disfigured in that way! If you don't chew, please don't start! Think about the people who love you and will be heartbroken when they have to watch you suffer or die! I pray everyday my husband will either quit or be lucky enough to not develop cancer, I can't imagine life without him! Good luckk I know it's hard to quit!
Steve | 7:11 p.m. April 10, 2008

I truly know how smokers feel. I'm married with two children and i woiuld never want to leave them over something so stupid as spitting. I/m going to look through a few more pics and hopefully this will turn my stomach enough to quit! Thanks for the inspiration..Peace out!

mikey | 1:38 a.m. April 11, 2008
you guys are kind of pathetic i have been chewing for two years and people always say how it's so hard to quit so on multiple occasions i have quit cold turkey for months at a time and never had a problem. still happy and healthy so i'm going to tfac now
Jeff | 1:41 a.m. April 12, 2008
Listen to me, I am 28 years old. I started dippin in college to stay up to study and because it was the cool thing to do on the baseball team. I have not dipped for 2 months now and I am still stuggling not to start again. I have lost my grandfather(who was one of the greatest influences on my life) to tabacco. I have seen his none tabacco using relatives live far beyond his age and I wish he was among them. I have seen many of my family members who used tabacco die at young ages and suffer through horrible illnesses when they should have been living out thier dreams.

If you are dipping now or smoking my advice is to deal with it and quit anyway you can. But quit! Find something else to do. The gum is working for me.

If you are young enough and you know of the side affects that those before you have suffered you have the information that gives you a choice. Stop chewing! If you have a friend that wants to try it you should consider punching him in the face before you give him a dip!
josh | 10:57 a.m. April 13, 2008
