Reading up on this issue is disheartening. I always thought that the D.O.H., N.I.H. and C.D.C. were more protective of human health. Vitrification is the best solution yet that I have read about. Why must we store these wastes ? We have to get rid of them somewhere. I live in Western N.Y. where there are 3 known sites where R.O.C.'s are stored in landfills. The climate around here guarantees dispersion of Radionuclides into the surrounding communities some day before their half-life. The government is too cheap to ship them elsewhere. Fast and loose with our health doesn't phase them. We used to view the Soviet Union as a place where they don't care about people.....
