I dated some Iranians while at the UofU. It was a disaster. Thank goodness I woke up and listened to my parents! The cultures are so different. Almost impossible to make a long term relationship with a different religion, culture, language, etc.

Wow, this is an amazing story. I can't believe they went through all that trouble to be together and it didn't last. It seems like she just used him in some way. I mean he went through a lot for her and she didn't seem to appreaite it. Putting his career on the line and everything. But it makes you think does love really last for ever or is it just a dream. Do some use people emotions to get what they want.

According to research, the wildly-in-love phase lasts on average about 4 years. My daughter calls it the "tee-hee, we-hee" time. If, by the end of that period, you haven't built on a solid foundation, things fall apart and you move on to another person--and frequently go through the same thing again.
This is where a shared view of life, compatible goals, and even the desire for children, come into play.
Doesn't sound like this couple moved beyond the first phase--or at least she didn't. Also sounds as if the husband still cares--I hope for his sake he will be wiser next time around. He paid an awful big price for his dream.

Anybody know why an article from 2004 is one of the most popluar articles listed today?

L.H.

Franco- The movie made about them was on TV last night. I came on the internet to find out more about them and was surprised to see that they were a popular article already!

DL

I dated a "Persian". Man, I was crazy about her, but her family would have none of the whitey from Utah, so it ended. Culture is pretty different, even though they'd been in the US for quite some time.

CD

Hi, Franco~The article is about their impending divorce, which is current news.

Josie

Franco-So where are they now? I mean he did a lot for her and look at how he paid him. I think that is why we should not have all these foreigners in the U.S.

Ali

She used him to run away! and to live in a trailer house... this is a typical american ignorace. Just like Bush's forgein policy

vlora

where is she now?

Sam

I dont think she used him to get out of the country. That's a silly reason, she was a princess who had it all. I think she was in love with him intially but living in a diff country, always watching your back and not having any family, can break the strongest bond.....put yourself in that position...I'm surprised it lasted so long!

Silvia (Spain)

Yesterday I watch the film. I like because I thought that film was a false story, but when I knewn that is true...I thought "It's incredible! really. I looked for about them in internet and I found information about divorce, but where is she now? She lives in EEUU or in Bahrein?
Answer me in my e-mail: silvia_ros_89@hotmail.com Thanks
P.D: I'm sorry, I from Zaragoza (Spain) and my English is very bad...excuse me.

Mary

I agreed with Sam. She had everything in her country, so why does she have to use him? I think they were just too young to know that " merriage" is not just about love. "Marriage" is real life. Putting our life level lower is not easy thing to do. She just did not know what is the "real life" to marry to low income person in US..

ESSRA

WHEN I WATCH THE SHOW IN THE BEGING IT WAS GUST LOVEY BUT IT ENDED SADLY, SHE SOULD NEVER LEFT HIM.

RE: Cynical

Wow! You hit the nail right on the head. I just loved your analysis of the situation. You sound like a family psychologist.

Unbelievable

Hey, people, this poor dumb marine was had! Guys are such saps for good looking women. Did anyone seriously think this was a Romeo and Juliet love affair????? I mean anyone except this poor love-sick fool? She used him to get into this country. This little missy is a party girl, and is obviously a lot smarter than him. She had no intentions of staying with her nice little Mormon husband. All she needed to remain here was 5 years of marriage to a U.S. citizen and she's home free. No way will she leave this country unless someone throws her out, which isn't likely now. Apparently, Romeo hasn't tumbled to the fact that he was a means to an end, so I'm not crying for him.

Wow

Silvia, your English is great. And Aimar is an an awesome player on Zaragoza's team. As for your other questions, I have no idea. I thought I'd gone into a time machine. Yowzers! This is OLD news. Holy cow. Too bad for the nice guy. I talked to him once and he was totally down to earth. Too bad so many girls want to be princesses from watching Disney movies. What? She's a real princess? Well I'll be. Saints be praised. I hope the both the best.

ashleigh

i feel sorry for him.

Freezin' in Florida

Could it have been a double edged sword....she liked the luxurious lifestyle of a princess, but did not like the constraints it put on her as a woman of the middle east. Clothing, restrictions, and arranged marriage to someone most likely much older and totally unseen. Running the Vegas strip sounds like she just wanted her freedom to be a "wild girl". It's a shame the price of her desires was one of our own.........a returned missionary and a marine. You hit the nail on the head "unbelieveable", I agree totally with you.

American

Silvia...you English is great. At least you have the praise and honor of having learned English since you came to America from Spain as opposed to others. Be proud.
