Ever since I saw God's Army, which I liked very, very much, and subsequently purchased, I have been interested in Richard Dutcher, the serious older missionary and riveting character he played in such a superior story which he evidently wrote and directed as well....I always thought that those who did not like the movie had probably never experienced any spiritual experiences or they wouldn't have criticized such a great movie.
Now that I see that he has produced another, "Falling", which evidently has a somewhat darker side, and am also hearing that he has become inactive in his LDS faith, my interest in him has been renewed...I couldn't wait to read more about him and what has made him turn from his LDS faith. I was so glad to read such a long, comprehensive article about his childhood, conversion, family life struggles and so forth. I think I see now why he has such depth that some main-line Mormons just can't understand. I would like to know where to contact him, if that would be a possibility, to thank him for his work and for his continued perseverance in his beloved and chosen field. Thank you for this article.
Well, while you want to high-five the man who made "God's Army" and played the leading role in it as one of "God's Army" you just think about what it means to the rest of the "army" when one of us purposely deserts the Army. What does that mean? Is that commendable? Not in the real world. Only in the anti-mormon world is that really commendable. For those who believe that where much is given much is required, its not so easy to brush off say, what Judas did to Jesus Christ. Do we say, "aw, Judas was just trying to find his way in life, leave the man alone" or do we recognize like Jesus recognized, that it was a pretty bad thing to betray. Betrayal is the only thing that seems to fit what took place with a film maker who greatly benefited from mormon enthusiasm for what seemed like a man who was going to make family fare movies that rocked the socks off what Hollywood threw at us. But oh no, we get Fallen and stories of dark angels. All I can say, sarcastically is, thanks a lot. fer nothin.
