Mixed bag of Booze | 3:52 p.m. June 30, 2009
This is a suprise, he decides to stay with the Jazz.

I understand where he's coming from and feel that we should cut him some slack. It is a business decision and he decided its best that he stays here. Now lets hope that he brings a better effort. I'm willing to give him a second chance.

He makes our team better, he's an all-star. We a better because he's staying.

Say goodbye to Paul Milsap. Then Boozer will leave after this season and then you have none....
LHM | 3:52 p.m. June 30, 2009
NO, Boozer please LEAVE!

Now trade him! I'm sure there is a team that can take on $12 million knowing it will free up cash for the following year.
rattler | 3:52 p.m. June 30, 2009
For me this was going to work out either way. On one hand, he's injured a lot. On the other hand, he's a 20 and 10 guy.
McKay | 3:53 p.m. June 30, 2009
Dang Booz, I just wish that once you would be a man of your word. Oh well, here's to another year of mediocrity!!
Danny J | 3:53 p.m. June 30, 2009
What can you do? Maybe this is a good thing. I say let's sign Millsap and use Boozer and his expiring contract to trade to a team looking to clear cap space for the Wade/LBJ/Bosh/Amare sweepstakes. If that works out, this could be great news.
T-Bone | 3:54 p.m. June 30, 2009
We need to start a, "Trade Boozer" campaign. Or...just boo him every time he touches the ball next year.
GoodGuyGary | 3:55 p.m. June 30, 2009
All I can say is, Boozer is such a loser, and can never back his own words.
Good | 3:56 p.m. June 30, 2009
I know that many people don't like Boozer, but I think that he's a great player and helps the Jazz more than he hurts them. He's a force when he's healthy and what he lacks on D he makes up for it with all other aspects of his game, good scorer, rebounder and passer. He and D Will have good chemistry and the offense flows better when they are clicking. Just my two cents. Glad your coming back Carlos!
What a Suprise! | 3:56 p.m. June 30, 2009
NOT!!! Boozer realized that no one wanted him. Now we as fans have to hope the the Jazz brass can make a deal for someone of more value who EARNS their paycheck. This really puts the pressure to try to sign Milsap early wihtout giving him a huge pay raise. To bad the Jazz can't make conditions on his return and pay him per game. That would save most of the undeserved 12 million he will get paid this year. How unfortunate for the Jazz.
terrible | 3:57 p.m. June 30, 2009
Just terrible. Milsap is going to be very hard to re sign now and Boozer will most likely leave next year anyway.
Inflammed Ego | 3:57 p.m. June 30, 2009
Open mouth, insert foot. I guess someone has had quiet the reality check over the past couple of months. 12 million looks to be too high of a price tag for the value he gives. Let's hope to a healthy and motivated season from Boozer as he applies around the league for the raise he feels he deserves.
Darn | 3:59 p.m. June 30, 2009
I was hoping he was gone.
Business.  | 3:59 p.m. June 30, 2009
Boozer you ruined The Jazz season last year and you shot yourself in the foot with your own foolishness. You are right in one thing you say repeatedly: Basketball is a business and you will do what is right for you and your family. I guess you learned the hard way this summer that indeed it is a business. The GMs know that and the fans know that. You are actually the only one who doesn't seem to understand what being business like is all about! It means being consistent, being reliable, contributing, being a team player, cultivating a positive mentality in others. Noone is willing to pay you for your BS and half effort. Basketball IS a business and I wont be renewing my season tickets because I dont want to spend my money supporting your greed and poor effort.
DANG | 4:00 p.m. June 30, 2009
I was really hoping he would opt out. well hopefully the Jazz can work out a trade with a team to pick up this waste of space and $12 million and get some value in return. I dont see to many teams wanting to pick up Carlos' contract. If none of the above, hopefully Carlos works he rear end off cuz he is in a contract year and we all know he wants the $$$.
Ole' Ole' | 4:00 p.m. June 30, 2009
Welcome to the school of Matador defense. The instructor today is Carlos Boozer.
Booooo.... | 4:01 p.m. June 30, 2009

oh man | 4:01 p.m. June 30, 2009
i can't take being a jazz fan another year with boozer on the team. I'm done for next year unless he's traded.
No! | 4:02 p.m. June 30, 2009
NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Pretty Frustrating | 4:02 p.m. June 30, 2009
I am just afraid we will lose Millsap! So much for progressing in the off season. Any possibiltes for trade, thoughts?
Ghost | 4:02 p.m. June 30, 2009
OK, he'll be back next season, then what? Trade him now. There are lots of teams trying to free up cap room. Let's get something for him now.
Anonymous | 4:02 p.m. June 30, 2009
TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE! TRADE!
Scott G. | 4:03 p.m. June 30, 2009
Son of a ...... So help me if we lose Milsap over this! Boozer you suck!
Anonymous | 4:03 p.m. June 30, 2009
Maybe he will decide to play defense this year as well..
LOOZER | 4:04 p.m. June 30, 2009
What a hypocrite loozer. Hopefully he won't last much past the signing period and that that KOC has a trade already lined up.
loozer | 4:04 p.m. June 30, 2009
trade his sorry butt, a nice expiring contract that someone will want! ship loozer anywhere!
Anonymous | 4:05 p.m. June 30, 2009
I'm opting out of being a Utah jazz fan.
Vanchickavan | 4:05 p.m. June 30, 2009
This may actually be good for the Jazz. His contract is now very appealing to several teams so the team could trade him and get some value (unlike at the trade deadline this last season). The team could also keep him. I know that may not be popular, but think about Boozer's point of view. He will likely have to play through some injuries and put together the best season of his career to compete with the big guys in next summer's free agency market. No matter what happens, look for Boozer to put up big numbers this year.
MD | 4:05 p.m. June 30, 2009
Boo for Boozer. He has no heart, no defense, and I was looking forward to the door hitting him on the way out of Utah.

He realized that he wasn't worth what he thought he was and that no one was going to pay him to sit on the bench.
Mark R | 4:06 p.m. June 30, 2009
Now Okur will opt out. Way to go Loozer!
2BadJazz | 4:07 p.m. June 30, 2009
Sorry to see this happen though Boozer needs to do what makes sense to him. Okur should do himself a favor and opt out, the Jazz are going nowhere fast.
Oh Crap ... | 4:07 p.m. June 30, 2009
That's too bad!

I've got an 86 year old father-in-law who was hoping for a shot at the power forward spot. He's got stronger and better hands than Carlos and could probably root him out of any spot around the key as well. I know he would play better defense and probably play through a little pain too.

I'll break the news to him tonight but it won't be pretty. Oh well!
Great Job Boozer!!! | 4:07 p.m. June 30, 2009
Smart Boozer! Why leave Utah? father Sloan is still there so you know Playing time for Boozer is plenty as long as Sloan coaches. Who cares about defense?
Oh! by the way, bye bye Paul Millsap !
Pastor88 | 4:08 p.m. June 30, 2009
As expected. Boozer shot his mouth off about being a franchise player and needing more money, so his ex could have more, then plays the JAzz as being in control. Brags about detroit and New Jersy then finds those teams think he is less than they thought.
Admit it, they don't want to deal with his behavior any more than the Jazz fans do.
KOC needs to get rid of him for a couple of quality players. His attitude and selfishness will not help Jazz be successful.
If the Jazz do not sign | 4:08 p.m. June 30, 2009
Okur they had better not bring back Collins. We all saw what Koufos could do early in the year and even as a rough rookie it was twice what Collins could do.

Other teams play thier rookies and 2nd year players. You know what, the get better in a big hurry.

Sloan buries them and they do not develop until thier 3rd year while he plays some incompetent Vet that he loves.

Millsap is a good example. When Boozer went out Millsap florished. That talent was always there. He did not develop it the day Boozer got hurt. When Boozer came back Millsap disappeared (along with 1/2 of the team). Millsap always had the talent. Sloan did not utilize it.

Playing Collins is a guaranteed loss. Playing Koufos will guarantee future wins as he develops quickly.

Since the Jazz will be in the luxury tax Collins will needlessly cost twice as much and the Jazz are not going to be a contender with Collin starting no matter what.

There has to be some end to the Sloan stupidity and stubborness sometime. The team will win more games without Collins.
pdhitman | 4:08 p.m. June 30, 2009
now we can trade booze, good he stayed.
Theus | 4:09 p.m. June 30, 2009
I can understand him wanting money. I hope he understands the fans wanting him to provide performance commensurate with the salary he will be pulling in. Play D big Boo!
John Charity Spring | 4:11 p.m. June 30, 2009
This is devastating news. Instead of receiving the opportunity to bring in a hard working, dedicated player, the Jazz are now stuck with a $12 million bench-sitter. It is unfortunate that this huge amount of money will now go to a player who spends roughly 1/3 of the season actually playing. There was a time in this Country when athletes played for loyalty to their team and for the love of the game. Apparently, that time has passed.
what about ... | 4:13 p.m. June 30, 2009
Okur opting out and trading AK to GS for Biedrins ('cause Nelly likes AK) or to the Clipps for Kaman or Camby ('cause they already have too many big men) - think the other teams would go for it?
SoCalJAzzFan | 4:15 p.m. June 30, 2009
This means that the Jazz have no real chance of resigning Millsap. Moreover, signing Okur will be financially painful.
If Okur doesn't share time at PF who does- the rookie?
Let's hope Okur stays with Jazz | 4:15 p.m. June 30, 2009
Smart investment KOC. keep the core together! Please, come back MEMO!!! Make Sloan happy !!!!
Anonymous | 4:16 p.m. June 30, 2009
TRADE BOOZER, He shows no sign of heart. Do everything to keep Millsap and OKUR.
Justin | 4:16 p.m. June 30, 2009
So much for, "I'm definitely opting out. I'm definitely getting a raise."
Hollywood | 4:16 p.m. June 30, 2009
Well stated, Vanchickavan. Boozer's expiring contract becomes very valuable as teams try to free up salary cap space for the big FA class of 2010.

He's also going to have to put up big numbers - and not get hurt - if he wants to get a big multi-year deal. Might be good, but it might also turn him into a selfish player, only interested in points and rebounds. He's certainly not going to take any contact during a game and risk a broken fingernail. That would sideline him for a month.

Now we see if Greg Miller was serious about paying the luxury tax in order to not lose Millsap or Okur. With Booz and Korver opting in, the other two would need to walk in order for the Jazz to get under the threshhold.

If you let Okur go, you may as well let Millsap leave and save money. With Collins/Koufos/Fes manning the 5, the team will be in the lottery.
Steve R. | 4:17 p.m. June 30, 2009
I am telling you right now i am not going to one single game if he comes back. Boozer is hurting the team way to much! Boozer I am saying you should apologize to the fans for wasting their money on tickets! It is clear he is doing what he does for the money, and he is not doing anything for his family. What is best for his family for him to retire(I think he can survive with what he's got) and spend time with them. He is all about his better car, bigger house, and he doesn't give a rats if the Jazz win or not. Prove to us Boozer that you want to be here
Distant Watcher | 4:18 p.m. June 30, 2009
Oops! Make that 2000 times what we pay teachers. See there, that's my point exactly, if we paid essential members of our society more, my math skills would be better.
Craig | 4:20 p.m. June 30, 2009
Now that Boozer has been thinking about what is best for himself and his family for the past couple of years, maybe now he can focus on his teammates a little bit and maybe take a class about defense. Let's earn the $12mil before we ask for more!
Jazz is doomed!!! | 4:20 p.m. June 30, 2009
San Antonio will get R. Jefferson, Sheed Wallace! watch for another season of Jazz being swept by San Antonio and by the Lakers! Deron Williams will leave Utah for its exessive nonsenses and stubborness. This franchise is history1

Jazz forward Carlos Boozer, left, has chosen not to opt out of the final year of his contract, a decision that may make it harder for the Jazz to re-sign forward Paul Millsap, right.
