Love this kid- | 11:19 p.m. June 29, 2009
No one who knows this kid can say one bad thing about him. He's friends with my son and is one of the best kids you'll ever meet.

The kid isn't a combine king, but I would bet my life that he will be successful at the next level.

He plays with heart, passion and will knock your head off.

Good luck Chris - Represent Utah!

Utah safety with offers from ND, LSU, FSU. Never thought I would see the day.
Curious | 2:59 a.m. June 30, 2009
Why did he change his commitment to Standford and commit to Notre Dame?

Yes, ND has been down for 2 years, but have also played in 2 recent BCS games, plays on national TV every week, has a rapid fan base with strong alumni support. ND has a storied tradition - none of which Stanford has.

He probably switched due to football program.
look at that grass | 6:12 a.m. June 30, 2009
Man when I played for Timpview We had the hardest field. between the #'s was dirt. Notre Dame, great going Chris. Good for you. Just goes to show you how far this Timpview program has come.
Ernest T. Bass | 7:53 a.m. June 30, 2009
So many blessings if he stayed in Provo.
head hunter | 8:03 a.m. June 30, 2009
kid can lay the wood like very few. was good to play next to Craig Bills as a youngster to see how to hit. badger credits craig as being the most influential player. by the way, in four years from now, craig bills will leave BYU as the most dominating defensive player they've ever had.
He'll never play there | 8:20 a.m. June 30, 2009
Mark my word. But, he wouldn't play at BYU or Utah eiher. So, can't blame him for wanting to find out and experience the atmosphere of Notre Dame.
Dr. J | 8:55 a.m. June 30, 2009
The dude would have been a special teams player at best at BYU. Go for your dreams kid, best wishes at NDU.
Come on.. | 9:09 a.m. June 30, 2009
Besides Craig Bills (who would have had any offer in the country) do you think ANYBODY on BYU or Utah's secondary has received offers from the likes of LSU, Oregon, Florida St, ect. Name me one kid who has received that attention.

I don't know the kid and haven't seen him play, but I doubt those guys go all the way into Utah to pick up some bum who couldn't see the field at the big powerhouses of BYU and Utah.

Love the mid-majors!!!!!
Rose Holladay | 9:13 a.m. June 30, 2009
I will look for you on ND TV. I doubt you will play.
Bills is better! BYU > utah> ND | 9:27 a.m. June 30, 2009
I'm surprised that ND only has 8 or 9 commitments for 2010. Doesn't BYU already have 18? And BYU's commitments are top notch too.
BYU/Utah | 9:27 a.m. June 30, 2009
Badger was one of the first BYU offers as a sophomore behind Heaps and Kaufusi. He was the first offer the staff of Utah made to ANY kid. This was before any one else. Do you really think, they offer a kid that early if the coaches who get paid millions of dollars to do this didn't think he would see the field for them.
MY BOY | 9:28 a.m. June 30, 2009
CHRIS IS MY BOY - RIP IT UP BIG GUY
ND | 9:30 a.m. June 30, 2009
Your a bench player at best there, at least at the Utah or BYU you would get on the field at some point in your career.
Anonymous | 9:45 a.m. June 30, 2009
If this young man is everything his friends make him out to be, Notre Dame needs him.
Shut UP | 10:21 a.m. June 30, 2009
What absolute whiners and losers are attacking this young man and chastising him for going to ND? Quite saying that he won't play...none of you know a thing about him and are just throwing sour grapes out there because he didn't go to the Y or U. When will the rumors start like you all did against Manti Teo "I know a booster who know's the truth about him" What manure.

Maybe these athletes want to get away from the judgemental Utahns who can't cope with reality.

Maybe these athletes want to go to a program that has more real tradition and legacy than all of the state of Utah's programs combined times 10.

I wish him luck...as a former Utahn, strict Mormon, Utah Fan and Big Irish fan I will be watching him and cheering for him for his success... not attacking him for his decision to go to a awesome team like Notre Dame.
andrewute1 | 10:53 a.m. June 30, 2009
Shut up-

No one is attacking him! But I wonder what his thoughts will be when Utah throws down on the Irish next fall. And then I wonder what all these so called "big" byu recruits will say when Utah throws down on the kewgs again this year and in the next few coming years.
ND | 11:29 a.m. June 30, 2009
what a joke!
True Blue and good favor. | 11:32 a.m. June 30, 2009
Im a BYU fan and would have loved to have seen him choose BYU. BYU can use all the depth they can get at D Backs. as it is though, i wish him luck at ND.

Go Cougars!
Me | 11:38 a.m. June 30, 2009
slow, undersized and white. Would have been a great addition to the BYU secondary
Anonymous | 11:41 a.m. June 30, 2009
im pretty sure he didnt really prefer one football program over the other.. he just wanted to get out of utah
Anonymous | 11:42 a.m. June 30, 2009
and byu and utah have had a better program for the last 4 years just saying :)
RE: andrewute | 11:48 a.m. June 30, 2009
The Noots are 1 and 2 against BYU. soon to be 1 and 3.
SHUT Up | 11:48 a.m. June 30, 2009
Your all whiners, this kid isn't going to play at ND, they are not the program they use to be, and they never will be again, BYU and Utah attrack more Cahtolics then ND has in a long time.
So if | 11:50 a.m. June 30, 2009
He is at best a bench player at ND, and Utah and BYU are both better then ND, let him go, he is playing for a lower team, obviously he couldn't get into the big schools, he was going to go to Stanford, what a great program they have hahaha
Dixies | 12:14 p.m. June 30, 2009
He might want to work on that 40 yard dash time...
Eat your words. | 12:59 p.m. June 30, 2009
Watch Notre Dame this year. Their QB is explosive and they will be returning some major talent. Not only that they will be in a BCS bowl and they are on TV pretty much every week. Their Boosters are amazing and their fans are true football fans who love the game and respect the players on the field.

And maybe just maybe they see the value of a big fast moving athlete that could play d-back or linebacker. Maybe they are learning about all-around athletes filling in spots.

Also Zoobie fans...the last 2 Bills brothers who were wonderful athletes and High school players in a lot bigger system (Colorado) than Utah haven't been able to finish their careers at BYU from injuries. 4A Utah ball isn't national college ball no matter what you and your local Media think. But I wish Craig the best of luck and hope he shines. I hope Badger does well also
Scott | 1:02 p.m. June 30, 2009
Why does everyone have to be jerks about people moving up to the next level. He is obviously good enough because they wouldn't just invite him because of his good looks or whatever. Be supportive of Utah kids moving up in their football careers! No matter where or how they're doing it, red shirt or first year starter, support our kids!
Good luck this season Badger!
Missionary Moment!!!! | 1:27 p.m. June 30, 2009
I wish we could have got him at BYU, but at least he'll be able to spread the gospel to more people at Noter Dame! The Lord works in mysterious ways!
ND fan here | 1:53 p.m. June 30, 2009
I've been an Irish fan for 30+ years. I can't recall one kid from Utah playing in South Bend. Not a knock on Utah, just stating that this is a great thing to see your athletes play outside of Utah. I would have thought there would be more encouragement from the locals, but nonetheless, he'll have a great opportunity to represent his family, faith and state on a national level.

You might hate ND, but fact remains, ND has a national fan base and has TV exposure second to none.

I'm joining the few others in wishing this kid the best of luck. We have 9 commitments and few offers out there, I'm there is something our coaches see in him.
Good Luck | 1:57 p.m. June 30, 2009
I was really excited to see a Utah kid going to play for the Irish. My experience going to school there was unforgettable, and I'm sure it will be the same for Badger. The South Bend Ward is great too. He'll have a wonderful experience in all aspects.

ND football has been down the past 2 years (looking for a big splash this year!). However, the atmosphere of a gameday weekend is amazing. BYU and Utah don't even come close.
The Kid is Great | 2:02 p.m. June 30, 2009
Badger is a great player.

I, too, wonder about the shift from Stanford to ND. But playing at ND beats the heck out of playing at Stanford.

The academics are virtually equal. The athletics are good.

More power to him. I hope he's an All-American.

Rudy, Rudy, Rudy!!!!!
Eagle 1 | 2:20 p.m. June 30, 2009
A 4.65 safety. He would fit right in at BYU. He will probably have to move to outside LB. Then you have to play for Weiss...Is it too late to go back to Stanford?
Love it | 2:21 p.m. June 30, 2009
If he is all that, sure I wish he was going to the U. But I love to see local kids do big time things. I hope he's an all american.
RE:Earnest T.Bass | 2:24 p.m. June 30, 2009
Oh ya like your only blessed if you stay in Provo...Tell that to LDS athlete from Heber, Cael Sanderson who became a 4X NCAA Champion and Olympic gold medalist by going to Iowa State..He was blessed he left the state!
Good luck Chris | 2:27 p.m. June 30, 2009
Congratulations Chris most athletes can only deram about going to a place like ND..Don't let anyone on here fool you they would jump at the cahnce to go there.
Anonymous | 2:44 p.m. June 30, 2009
Seriously, attacking a high school kid because he didn't choose to play for your school is weak. I'd like to think some of you Y fans would be better than that. ND is a top notch academic program and a legendary football program. This may be shocking to some of you home-growns, but some people like a little change of scenery and a little adventure, especially if you've been living in Provo. This kid has intangibles, LSU offered him for pete's sake! Good Luck to you Badger, Represent.
U being critical? | 3:08 p.m. June 30, 2009
I dont think its the Y fans who are being so critical.
yes | 4:38 p.m. June 30, 2009
ND is a very good choice, so was Stanford. I congratulate you for getting out of Zion. Shows you are intelligent.

Best of luck.
Re: Eat your words | 4:55 p.m. June 30, 2009
What are you trying to do by comparing Utah high school football to that of Colorado? I don't know what kind of "system" Colorado has but Utah had more DI signings than that of Colorado this year. I don't live in a 4A area but it sounds like you know less about it than I do. Look at the combined players from both Cottonwood and Timpview (played for the championship) who signed with DI schools or will sign this coming February. Do some research or watch some games before you make some weak arguments about 4A or Utah football in general. Per capita, Utah ranks very high in the number of kids who sign with a DI school.

the next rudy
Woah,,,that was close | 5:19 p.m. June 30, 2009
I heard he changed his mind and was NOT going to Stanford. I was hoping he did not decide on BYU.

There are way too many slow weak TV players at the Y.
ND byu | 5:47 p.m. June 30, 2009
BYU might have 18 committs already but they are 90% 2 and 3 star players. Notre Dame is filling up on real TALENT and will have a much better class than BYU when it is all said and done. The early 2010 recruiting rankings already have ND ahead of BYU with half the number of recruits! I have alot of respect for BYU but besides a few bright seasons they are not on the same level as ND. The irish have fallen upon hard times but will undoubtedly make a BCS bowl this year. There is way too much talent on that team and the timing of maturation and experience is almost perfect (Next year it will be). Every "Powerhouse" team hits a rut for a decade or so, full of losing seasons, new coaches and frustrated fans. 2009 will be the year Notre Dame churns out a fantastic season that sets the bar for the next decade or so, I guarantee it. Badger has Zibikowski written all over him, tough as nails, good pick up.
To ND BYU | 6:28 p.m. June 30, 2009
Depends on which scouting source you look at. ND has supposedly signed 35 4 star and 7 five star players over the past 3 years. Where are they in the National rankings? They have struggeled over the past few years with so called GREAT recuits. As far as Chris Badger goes, I hope he tears it up. He is a great kid and hits like a truck. No one knows how he'll do until he gets on the field. Same with any other recuit. Work ethic, smarts and technique will help more than Hype ever will!
Cheer for every home grown kid!! | 6:59 p.m. June 30, 2009
I don't care if your kid isn't getting a scholarship or even if you hate the kid that is getting the scholarship. Never talk down a kid from Utah that is taking the opportunity to showcase what they have at the next level on scholarship, partial, or even walk on status!

Seriously take some pride in the culture, and the football thats played in this state from 1A all the way to 5A!!!!
r u ready? | 7:27 p.m. June 30, 2009
Academics son....... academics.......... follow the rules and the coaches and you will have an excellent education.

good for you. You made the right decision.
Every winning program | 8:07 p.m. June 30, 2009
needs players who "make big plays" and is "a winner". Combine stats don't measure a players ability to 'make plays' game after game. If you have ever coached on ANY level you know what I mean.
Typical Utah football fans | 10:07 p.m. June 30, 2009
Acting like a bunch of crabs! Trying to drag this kid back down into the pot when he gets a great chance to get a wonderful education and a great football experience, while at the same time getting out from under all the red vs blue garbage that goes on here. Congrats Chris - way to give yourself a chance to live outside the shadow...
