To quote the article: Such promises include the priesthood authority of God, the continuation of families through the eternities because of eternal marriage and an inheritance of land.

I don't know about the descendants, but the Icelandic people, being very egalitarian, would most likely not accept a priesthood that excludes women.

Eternal marriage sounds more like a sentence than a promise. Jesus said there are no marriages in heaven. We are to reach heaven as individual souls.

The inheritance of land now we are getting to the crux of why most people originally followed Joseph Smith and Brigham Young.

"Eternal marriage sounds more like a sentence than a promise." Not if you love your partner. If you don't then I can understand your belief in this.

"We are to reach heaven as individual souls." This is true. If one partner or the other commits sin and is unrepentant, they will not reach celestial glory. It is up to both individuals to honor the covenants made.

"Jesus said there are no marriages in heaven" I have never read that. Please cite.

My reference about marriage is from Matthew 23:30 where Jesus is quoted as saying:

At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.

I apologize. The passage should be Matthew 22:30.

Jesus was preaching that the kingdom of heaven was "at the doors" and the end of the world was coming. That is why he and John the Baptist and Paul (Saul) all preached that marriage was not something to get involved in. None of them were married for that reason! Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying (or trying to make another movie starring Tom Hanks).
