Yes, let's make Red Shirt write a thesis every time he expresses an opinion, with quotes, references and cross-references, footnotes, bibliography, and irrefutable mathematical notations, all within his allotted 200 words. And if he doesn't, then just dismiss it with mockery and demands for sources, not with any substantive rebuttal.

Somehow, I don't imagine your high standards apply to any assertions made by those on the left.
@ Obama the teacher | 1:18 a.m. June 27, 2009
You contradict yourself. First you imply Red Shirt is using logic, history and statistics to defend his "legitimate" views. Now you are saying he is just expressing his opinion. Which is it? opinion or facts?
I would challenge Red Shirt's use of "history, statistics and logic." They rarely reflect the "facts." Sources of information are always important. Surely you wouldn't accept "facts" spouted by Keith Olbermann now would you?

Reds like Redshirt like to use the unilateral approach to everything.
"GIVE ME EVIDENCE!" Neocons demand. (Redshirt does this all the time)
But are hard pressed to come up with the same.

They get this from the bogus WMD's in Iraq BS.
Remember that?
Sad way to through life if you ask me.

TO "Re Obama the teacher | 7:20 p.m." here goes. John Kerry didn't get special treatment, he was awarded purple hearts for injuries that most soldiers consider minor. My source for that was from some retired army officers that were in Vietnam. (not swift boaters either)

Al Gore has invested in a software company that has developed software to track CO2 emission. He also owns "Generation Investment Management" which just happens to be a carbon Trading Company.

Obama was one of the plaintiff lawyer in the case "Buycks-Roberson v. Citibank Fed. Sav. Bank Fair Housing/Lending/Insurance

Docket / Court 94 C 4094 ( N.D. Ill. ) FH-IL-0011 State/Territory Illinois"

Hey Oh Brother @ 5:39, we live in a REPUBLIC! Get it right, idiot!

That being said, do you honestly feel its right for Obama to even consider signing bills from congress that were Rahm-rodded down the people's throat without time to read and adequately argue the for and against points? Is this really the man we need to pull America together again, or are you as blinded by his image as all the other Democrap?

300 pages of changes dropped onto lawmakers laps at 3:am for the Global Warming Bill. If Repugs had done this there would have been riots in the streets by the Democraps, but when they do it is is because the Repubs lost and we need to "face the facts" of the lost.

Tell me just who is NOW doing great damage to our country?

How many years will it take to undo the damange "the One" is doing?

Bush didn't even come close to this clown.
re: Red Shirt | 10:34 a.m. June 27, 2009
According to Kerry's Commanding Officer, George Elliot, Kerry being awarded Purple Hearts for shrapnel wounds was more the rule than the exception. (snopes)

Billionaire is how you referred to Gore yet you haven't provided a source (ie tax returns) to show us his net worth.

Obama was one of several plaintiff lawyers against a bank for DISCRIMINATORY lending practices. You provided NO evidence of BAD loans.

Red Shirt. You take a little bit of factual information then add some spin so the end result are distortions and lies just as Limbaugh/Hannity/Beck/O'Reilly/Drudge/Newsmax/etc. do. You have been a good pupil.

I understand the letter writer's frustration.

Obama is a major disappointment to me too.

He wouldn't know a mandate if it slapped him in the face. It's slapping, again and again. It's a slapping machine.

He's bowing to the corporations, he's acting naive in regard to republican intent on health care reform (of course, their goal is to stop anything from happening, as it has always been), and he doesn't seem to understand how badly the democratic party is infiltrated by fundamentalist capitalists.

What we need is a candidate who is not afraid to be a liberal. Obama is a left leaning moderate (at best) in policy, even if I believe he's a liberal at heart.

We can only hope that in his second term he takes a sharp turn to the left, because I highly doubt we'll see any meaningful reform in the next three years in the most critical areas this country has seen since WW2 - health care - and the most important issue this planet has ever seen - energy policy.

Please raise my taxes.
Savant | 11:34 a.m. June 28, 2009
I did not vote for Obama but I hope he does well - we can all use an improvement. I don't agree with the letter writer in all of his points and I certainly don't think we know enough about him and his performance at this point.

But on the other hand, I think giving him a "free pass" is dangerous and I am also concerned that those who blamed every problem under the sun on Bush and were vicious in their verbal attacks (and on Palin and others) are now wanting "civility" from the right when it comes to Obama.

There does indeed need to be debate on health care, energy, etc, but debate indicates two sides - something liberals don't seem to want to deal with. The facts are that Canada and the UK are not our model for a health care system (these are smaller countries who restrict immigration to those with a lot of money) and that despite what Mr. Gore (whose motives include fame and fortune) says, there IS time to address climate change and do it right.

And finally, I don't want a green car until they get a lot better.
Article of Faith | 2:23 p.m. June 28, 2009

We had an election and President Obama won. The fact that Obama didn't win Utah doesn't give us the right to nullify the process. I disagreed with those who wanted to impeach President Bush because they opposed his policies, and I disagree with those who wish to toss out President Obama because they oppose his policies. As a Mormon, I was taught at a young age: "We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law." This Article of Faith does not merely apply for the leaders we vote for or agree with.
That's right | 2:52 p.m. June 28, 2009
And how likely do some of you people think it is that Obama and other Democrats will be "shown the door". It's not going to happen so you guys should try and contribute what you feel are the best things you can to our country (instead or trying to break it down). I am a Democrat now for this reason. I don't agree completely with either Republican or Democrat platforms, but the Democrats have a vision of the future that I like. And Republicans do more whining, complaining and doomsday type predictions than anything else. Get a life and a purpose for our future and stop bringing us down!

In reading the list of anger issues, most readers/writers didn't address reasons to show why Obama should be shown the door out...i.e He has hidden & sealed his birth, academic, educational records to prove to Americans that he is or is not qualified to be president... Even the Supreme Courts have thrown out the complaints filed by every attorney questioning Obama's citizenship... He promised change and he has complied. The country's debt is in its worst economic fate ever!...He is running the entire show all by himself...a true dictatorship...(by the way, what's happened to Biden)I just heard that re. Health care, Oba said that the elderly & medically- hopless, should be let to die. I believe the plan may be in the works. In Jan.2009 My dad was feeling weak, I took him to the hospital & he died.(physician= middle eastern & I believe he was terminated)...In 1 day Hiroshima was demolished,In 1 day Germany was demolished,In 1 day the Twin Towers went down. Wonder what Obama can do in 4 years? We're seeing the show in real life!He is good looking & has gift of gab.

Are you absolutely clueless when you blame Bush? Apparently you are totally illiterate in what happened during the Clinton era. The Clinton era pushed through these bills, removing restrictions and controls and oversights. It took a few years for the problem to develop and we now have the fruits of that idiot legislation that Clinton and his cronies pushed through the congress.

Start finding out the facts before you shoot off your mouth. First put brain in gear before starting mouth. THe apostle Peter ha it right when he said the toungue is indeed in a slippery place.
Not a leader | 5:49 a.m. June 29, 2009
Obama is not a leader, he is a new generation pitchman trying to sell america a load of crap. To save america you can't do it by taking control of the economy or business, there has to be some thought given to put more money in the hands of consumers. Consumers are the base of the economy, not failing businesses that can't be salvaged with financial gifts. If anything is to be taxed, let it be the imported goods and products so america can become self sustaining again. The world economy is dependent on the american consumers who have jobs and are working.

His goals to give every poor more welfare will only worsen our economic woes. He should be giving the poor jobs with better incomes and let them be their own care takers. Socialism and welfare only creates more poor and more economic problems.

By the time Obama has done all his damage to our economy with his so called support for the poor we will be in a bigger depression than we now face. Obama's plans to tax the working americans to fund and give welfare to the poor will not work.

FYI the country over the last 8 years has been destroyed under the Bush Administration. Clinton left with a surplus Bush left the country in the worst economic condition since the great depression and being despised around the world.

BTW conservatives need to make up their minds on Obama ... is he like Hitler or a Messiah? Bush on the other hand preemptively invaded a country(like Hitler) and quoted the bible in his speeches (like the Messiah).

Why when President Bush was in office was it OK to criticize, call him names, etc? Now that Mr. Obama is in office the Left demands that he be respected and allowed to do his job. Hypocrisy?

Bush wasn't elected president by the people Al Gore had the popular vote (aka people chose Gore). It was the SUPREME court that decided on FL thus giving the presidency to the right-wing conservative.

Sound similar... fast forward to 2009 in Iran where the SUPREME leader decided the election for a right-wing conservative nut.

Ironic how we want right-wing nuts in other countries out for more open minded liberals yet right-wing nuts are good for this country??

BUT he does control to how act to those disasters:

Katrina reaction was a absolute failure for the richest country in the world.

Reaction to the attack from Afghanistan was a failure: attacking Iraq while Taliban and Al Qayda grew into nuclear Pakistan.

Do you and your liberal friends know anything other than empty fallacies, such as ad hominem (attacking the individual, not the argument) and the appeal to ridicule (ridiculing an argument without refuting it)? That's about as sophisticated as a playground argument. (Oh yeah? We'll you're stupid, and your mom dresses you funny!) I guess if that's all you've got, that's all you've got.

Ditto to those who say conservatives are just "parroting" Rush Limbaugh. I guess that's because you can't refute what Rush is saying. He's right, and you resent it. So, go ahead with your empty fallacies. They mean nothing and do nothing except "convince" people who already agree with you.

"Why when President Bush was in office was it OK to criticize, call him names, etc? Now that Mr. Obama is in office the Left demands that he be respected... Hypocrisy?"

Bush's took eight VERY LONG years to do the damage he did to this country. It will take much longer than that just to recover. But, within days of Obama taking office the Republican choir began their droning chant of "...he's destroying our country! Family Values! Founding Fathers! Stop Marxist Socialism!"

You MUST accept the idea that there is NOTHING that you Republicans can do to ever take away your history of President Nixon and his watergate and the Vietnam War. Nothing can take away your history with President Reagan and the Iran Contra secret government. Nothing can take away Bush's government based on theology and dogma over reason and science.

You're going to have to live with that.

Sadly, we ALL share the history of Republican presidents lies, deceptions, fearmongering, subversive manipulations and criminal activity.

Obama will NEVER be one of you, no matter what lies and fearmongering you spread about him.

American automakers made what sold.
Detroit cranked out those Gas guzzling SUVs because that's what 'mericans waz buy'in! $$$

Toyota already had Hybrids developed and on the road because gas has been $5+ in Japan for years!
50% of the cars in Europe are Diesels because gas is been over $5+ per gallon for years there too.

Americans driving their 8mpg Hummers and SUVs 80 miles per hour had ONE summer of $4 per gallon and you'd think it was the end of the world!

No-one has the right to force anyone to do the right thing, that takes away freedom of choice.

Grow and take personal responsibility.
If you BUY green, they will BUILD green.

I for one am ticked off that I have to "bail out" greedy Automakers for build cars that know one wants anymore.

Go Germany, Go Japan!!!

The problem with the last election was that the GOP did not run conservatives, and the media is flat-out biased. The GOP ran Democrat-lite candidates and RINOs who were propped up by the liberal media in the primaries (e.g., John McCain) and deserved to lose. No one can out-racist, out pander, out demagogue, out tax and spend, out lie the Democrats.

By the way, are you a paid political hack like so many other liberal posters on this board?

Over and over again I see the dems/liberals accuse every FACT dropped by a Rep/conservative as being straight from Rush, Hannity, etc... How do you know? How do YOU know unless YOU are listening to these same people. I get accused of being a Limbaugh listener every time I burden a dem with a FACT. Dems hate facts... However, I cannot tell you the last time I heard the Limbaugh show. Funny thing, when he is on, I am at WORK. Go figure.
to: one question | 11:50 a.m. June 30, 2009
what you say is the sad truth. they know it;s true, but they don't like it. dems have only one adv atage in politics: unity. where the republicans split thier parties because thier conscience tells them to reconsider something, dems blindly follow their party. some may say this is not so, but the facts suggest that it is. how many clinton supporting dems voted for mccain or independently after obama was nominated, despite all the things she and her campaign said about him? romney never said anything bad about mccain which is why the reps supported him when he ran. as a romney supporter, i for one would not vote for mccain if he had said so many bad things about romney as obam did about clinton, or if romney had said so many things about mccain that would make question his intergrity like clinton did to obama. one cannot even dispute the fact that if these dems had a mind of thier own, obama would have never won the election.

Obama Republican | 12:29 p.m. June 30, 2009
It is no wonder the Republican Party is shrinking! They truly have lost focus, or maybe it is just BIG BUSINESS blocking their view.

I just do not get the thought process anymore, we spend billions on bombs, guns, espionage, and black ops. Why because the "Military Industrial Complex" DDE: wants it that way.

If we took one year, yes one year of the defense spending in this country and spent it on alt fuel sources we could be off our addiction to oil. How simple is that, spend money to cut the life line of our enemies. Instead we go on funding the very countries that want to destroy us! Check out the Pickens Plan for one solution.

The Oil Companies in this country do not want any change in policy. In turn they fund both sides Dem and Rep and we go no where. Status Quo for Oil is the best policy.

Obama has very limited power when up against the real tyrants in this country.
To Anonymous @ 12:14pm | 1:16 p.m. June 30, 2009
"Fear mongering" and "Constitution-trampling" politicians? Who do you think you are kidding?!

"Fear mongering" is the lifeblood of liberalism and the Democratic Party, and "Constitution trampling" is their modus operandi. How else to you explain a bloated federal government that dominates nearly every aspect of our lives and seeks to control the rest? The federal government was designed to be one of limited powers, so that the federal tyranny now unfolding would never occur. Our constitution has already been shredded by politicians from both parties who have expanded the power of the federal government. It almost makes me pine for the Articles of Confederation.

Go ahead blame Bush and the GOP, as you undoubtedly will. You will find no argument here. Bush and the GOP have been a big part of the problem because they have ignored conservative principles and have instead espoused liberal ones in an ill-advised effort to "move to the center."

It's time for "We, the People" to reject the "fear-mongering" and "constitution-shredding" of both parties, take back the power, return the federal government to is limited sphere, and return freedom and prosperity to our great country.

I love in these comments when everyone refers to the fact that we live in a "democracy". Actually, we live in a representative republic. Not only is Obama a disappointment to me, but so are the representatives we've elected to speak for us. I'm not always sure they have our best interest at heart, but their own. Being a conservative, I am disappointed with republicans acting more like liberals in an attempt to be seen as more electable. Conservatives want conservative thinkers-go figure!

For example, I still haven't heard how Obama and media made the current recession worse. When in fact everyone in mid 08 was saying recession likely to last into 2010.
