Jackson County temple lot saga

I recently toured the LDS Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple and learned about temples. The big mystery of why temples are sacred, why thorough personal interviews for worthiness are required for admittance once they are dedicated, what they are used for, and how they glorify God - are explained. It goes back thousands of years to temples built by Solomon and others, and even before that to Moses. Even the baptismal font described in 1 Kings is represented in every LDS temple, and used nearly every day, all day. It is saddening to see so much effort spent to build a temple that they do not know how to use. The Community of Christ Temple has the same problem. A temple is more than a name you place on an office building. It is more than a church. Unless you are going to use it as ancient prophets did, there isn't much point to building one. But without revelation we don't really know how to use temples. Come back to the Church of the restoration. There is much you can learn.

This article very clearly illustrates how silly the whole Mormon movement really is. And now holier than thou LDS posters like" Why Temples" [above])look down their noses at other Mormon sects telling them that they build temples they do not know how to use.

If Joseph smith dedicated the temple to be built in 1831, isn't Jesus just a tad bit late? This story reminds me of Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot."

The article is interesting for a very sketchy historical overview, but it states nothing about LDS holdings in the area as they are today. There are still a lot of rumors about Independence Missouri, and what and what not has been purchased by the LDS church. It would be interesting to hear more details into this... of course more eventful would be to hear exactly how such lands are being developed.

It is interesting how mindless and dishonest people are to speak of things they can't comprehend. The Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are being used EXACTLY as Jesus Christ directs,through a Living Prophet. Arrogant, prideful, self important minds can't comprehend that! Don't speak on something you don't have the intelligence to understand as it proves your lack of credibility.
The Temple in Independence MO. will be built in GODS time, not mans. It will be built as Jesus Christ wants it, not as Man wants it. Satan has always wanted to destroy the work of God. Those who think this church is silly, shows Satan is succeeding with the prideful, arrogant people. Jesus Christ doesn't lie, so these temples will be built and revelations WILL be fulfilled.

"SO SAD" is just a truly sad person who feels a need to attack the Church because of his/her own feelings of guilt. That's how those who have left the Church try to deal with their conscience...by trying to justify their decision.

Insulting people's intelligence was a tactic that Jesus used quite often, so I'm sure He approves of your post in which you called people arrogant and then said they didn't know as much as you.

Alex Baugh writes an excellent article on a subject that is seldom discussed anymore. I know of Baugh from the Mormon History Association and believe his work to be very credible. I agree with "Not enough details." A subsequent article would clear the air about the LDS Church's holdings and where the Church seems to be heading in the Independence area.

The tabernacle in ancient Israel was concerned with the holiness of God and his plan of redemption for man's sin. The concern of the priest in the Hebrew Tabernacle was worship and blood sacrifice. It was God-centered with Hebrew Priests representing men before God. (a place of substitute death)Jesus the lamb of God replaced the temple (John 2:19,21)

The saints were exhorted not to sell their property in Jackson Co. and near by. Many did not sell and left the area in the hands of the mobs. I do not know who owns the land this day and time, but I have a feeling a lot of the land in the area is still owned by the posterity of those who were driven out. I also listened to a talk by an individual who helps the Church with purchasing of property in that area. He said negotiations go on, on a regular basis. Hope this helps with questions.

He was talking about himself, and refering to what will happen.

These scripture are NOT about the the temple,

perhaps reading it ALL in context will help you understand.

Whether you are LDS or not (which from your comment you are obviously not) you will easily see from reading the Old Testament that Christ's first coming was foretold for thousands of years.

So, why is it acceptable to you that God waited for well over a thousand years to send His Son, Jesus Christ, but yet Joseph Smith's prophesy, unfulfilled for only 178 years, is completely unbelievable to you?

All Christians would surely agree that Christ's own body is the temple of God(John 2;21 cf.1:14) and that the church corporately and
Christians individually are temples of the Holy Spirit(1Cor 3:1; 6;19 Eph 2;21)
Consider now the type of fulfillment that takes place in the NT. According to the book of Hebrews that which is shadowy (temple of stone) can be abolished when it is superseded by the perfect{Jesus}(Heb. 10:9)

Temples are built for very specific purposes, for very specific activities.

The hebrew under the law of moses, they did sacrifices abnd offerings there, an archetype of Christ's sacrfice,

that was fulfilled, by Christ,
so those sacrifices and offerings are not not needed,

but temples still have specific purposes,

and temple themselves have not been done away with.


Read and understand the scriputes in full and in context,

don't just take one scripture willy-nilly and out of context and think you have proved some point.

I just don't understand why people are so concerned about how church $ is spent, do you seek to know how other churches spend their $? It all comes down to this do the best with whatever understanding you have and never stop searching for the truth and when our Lord returns then he will sort it all out and I believe he will not be pleased with all the judgementaleness we tend to show on this web site. I ask one and all how do you think he would fill.
