Why would any family allow a hearing impaired 95 year old relative go hiking alone???????

"Why Would..? Because the spirit doesn't age and unfortunately the aged body refuses to accept that. I know such an individual who prefers to die 'on the trail' rather in his bed. Trek on!

So, according to you the deaf community shouldn't be allowed to take walks either?

My 81 year old grandmother-in-law runs marathons. As Indiana Jones once said, "it's not the age it's the milage".

How does his family stop him? If he does't need a care giver, and he's not their child that the law requires a responsible adult, how would you stop a healthy 95 year old from doing anything he wants and is capable of doing? Youngsters fall and get lost far more than oldsters. As someone has said Trek On.
