UTA can build and operate transportation systems and do it well.

However, much of what they do is wasted motion, jumping through bureaucratic hoops placed int eh way by various federal regulations, agencies, reviews, permits and the like.

President Reagan got it right: Government is not the solution, Government is the PROBLEM.

to demand that other people (federal taxpayers) pay for our public transit boondoggles? If people want rail transit (i.e.Trax) let them pay for it via the farebox.

TRAX has not been a public transit boondoggle. It has been a huge success and is far more cost effective than UTA's city busses.

If you want all of the money for public transit to come from fareboxes only, it is also time to have all funds for roads come from road users only (i.e. TOLLS - and yes that is a nasty word!). Gas taxes are not even coming close to covering highway funding needs.
