WOW, for a very concise article, a good portion of which is devoted strictly to location and function of the pancreas, the explanation of the beginning of cancer and the recent understanding of its progession was very well done. I don't claim to know anything about medicine, and I'm sure it's much more complicated than space allows, but the brevity with which you brought me new understanding of the disease is impressive!

Another Ute fan here that is rooting for Dave Rose. It doesn't make me classy. Only a donkey would wish Coach Rose or anyone else a fatal outcome. Dave stands out as a fighter to me. I have faith that he will use his competitive fire to beat this brutal form of cancer. All these prayers being offered up for Rose will keep coming accross the board of any rivalry. And they come independent of religious faith, or from those hoping for more BYU wins or losses. I can't stomach to root for BYU but have long seen Dave Rose as a warrior stud. Extra points: we should all hope the best for Rose and anyone else with cancer (outside of Bin Laden that is). However, nix that name in parenthesis from your minds as you pray for Dave Rose. Coach, I look forward to seeing you on the cougar sidelines this winter.

My cousin and aunt both died as a result of colon cancer. Hopefully Coach Rose can beat this pancreatic cancer.

Go Coach Rose! You're a class act

To be fair, I am a doctor, and I should know more about this than the author; but the misinformation in this article is profound. Did you spend more than 15 minutes googling info on the pancreas? That stuff from the U isn't new, I learned it years ago. And cancer really doesn't work the way you described. Try again.

I'd be extra wary of a doctor who disputes the information in the article but doesn't supply his/her name. Anonymous medical advice is worth even less than what you pay for it. Anyone can be a naysayer, with no evidence to back it up. At least the article's author was willing to put his name on it. Best wishes to the coach in recovering soon.

the pancreatic endocrine tumor prognosis is 65% 5 year survival and 45% 10 year survival per Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. it is definitely a better prognosis than the pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma that Pat Swayze has and which is the usual form of pancreatic cancer that 60 y/o + folks get.

Solid information.

thank goodness the Cougs will have him coach again this season. BYU has the makings of something special. they just need some power forwards/center in the middle...
