Moose won't pay bill; neither will state

I applaud Dave Adams for his generosity. That's an example I would like to emulate. Well done!

well, we know whose side the state is on...not ours. i mean, the moose fell because it was tranquilized by the state. the damage was not an act of God.

funny how when things get tough we learn that the government, those whom we employ are not on our side in the end. somehow they forget who hired them, and who pays them.

shame on the state of utah!

I applaude Mr Adams, I will use him as well. The State can not walk away from what they caused. They will spend millions on stupid stuff and leave two kids out to dry. Shame on you!

Further proof that everyone is better off depending on their own resources, or the generosity of fellow citizens than paying for bloated government bureaucracies which exist mainly to continue to exist.

The real angle for this story should have been, "Fabulous car rescue from woozy moose."

What is wrong with looking for the good instead of cataloging everybody's gripes? Kudos to Dave. I will also be there for my next body work problems on my car.

I agree with Doodles on the story angle. Perhaps DNews could do a follow up piece about the generosity. I think many people need news of human goodness right now.

Let's not forget that the Moose (a wild animal) wondered into a public area. The State doesn't own or control the Moose. It is on its own. When officers tranquilized it, they would never be able to control where it falls. I do think the best place for this to have happened is in a parking lot and not somewhere else on BYU's campus or in a neighborhood where there could have been a lot of onlookers.

I also think the State made the right decision in not paying the claim. This was just a fluke. Had the officers shot the car, then the State should pay, but they didn't, the moose did the damage.

As for Mr. Adams, I agree with what has been said. His actions are the real story here. What a true Hero! I hope the family is grateful for Mr. Adams' generosity.

I wonder, if they go after the State for "damages", what damages have they suffered? Mr. Adams has made them whole by doing the work for free. If they happened to "win" any money from the State, I hope they would intend to pay him back!

Actually the state considers all wildlife in utah property of the state. That is why they can charge so much for hunting and fishing tags.

If someone had shot the moose, the DNR would have very quickly claimed "ownership" of the animal.

The "State Senior Claims Agent" stiffed a couple of college kids and should have his job performance reviewed before a judge reviews his judgement and the State pays a much bigger bill, including court costs.

Hooray for a classy auto body shop owner. Guys like him are golden!

This could have been treated that same as if an auto without insurance on it had crashed into the parked cars belonging to these two. The uninsured motorist portion of the auto insurance of the two students could handle this crash. I'm sure the moose didn't have liability insurance and is no longer available to ask about it.

They may not have been legally required to pay but they should choose to do it anyway because it is the right thing to do.

I bet the state has already spent much more in 'evaluating' the claim than if it had paid it in the first place.

Remember the old adage: "We're from the government and we're here to help."

This is not right. It is one thing if the moose just died and landed on the cars but quite another when the DWR tranquilized it and resulted in the accident. I believe that the Division should be liable for this misfortune. I do agree though that the officer that took care of it should not have said that the state would pay. He doesn't have that power to make that statement. Good job for the repair shop, very classy.

Dave Adams should be nominated for Utah Man of The Year and the Goveror should step down for not correcting the decisions of his underlings.

If more people were "paying it forward", the world would be a much better place. I am so proud to be a relative of Dave Adams! His behavior is a wonderful example to us all.
