Different laws for women having sex w/ minors vs. men having sex w/ a minor. This woman is every bit as guilty of sexual battery as any male would be if he had sex w/ a 13 year old girl (or boy). I'm sick of this double standard - she belongs in jail and for a long long time. The judge in this case needs to do what's right and send a strong message to female predators.

I agree... | 7:53 p.m. June 16, 2009
...the consequences of behavior should be the same for all - male or female. Letting her off easy sends the wrong message. Empathy should never be put up as a substitute for justice. Btw, the family can forgive if they want to, but their view should not be a significant factor in charging, plea bargaining or sentencing.

The prosecutor and judges obligation is not to provide individual justice, recompense or payback (or lack of in this case) to the satisfaction of the individual victim but rather to bring justice to the society that this teacher betrayed.

If I did that-- | 11:21 p.m. June 16, 2009
I'd be going to prison for sure--
This woman blackened the eyes of every teacher in the system, destroyed trust and should pay the price-- and that price is??
Exactly what a male would get under the same circumstances!!
If Judge Rodney Page ever reads these, I would hope the sentence is the maximum he can give considering the plea bargain.

The problem here is not the judge but the parents for allowing them to plea down and reduce...no one wants to put their child through this, but pleaing down, always reduces time spent in jail and severety of charges, and just throws other children in potential harm's way...I think it very sad when that happens...I wish more parents would just stick it out and fight all the way and make these sick teachers and abusers pay for what they are doing to our children...a classroom should be a safe environment, but anymore it seems like an online dating site.

Man = prison time to the maximum
Women = probation and a slap on the wrist.
American justice at it's best. No wonder there is no trust in government anymore.

Sick, but... | 4:44 p.m. June 17, 2009
Unfortunately, for a guy, an "experience" with a teacher is something to be fantasized about. Wrong, but reality. What is really odd is the teacher herself! Intimacy with a 13 year old? Come on! That's just sick. Maybe 16-18 might be more understandable, but a 13 year old? Throw the book at her, they would at a male teacher.

I am so sick of women predators getting off with a slap on the hand. Same thing going on in Boise. A predator is a predator. I don't care what the family wants, the law is the law. What a slap in the face to every child that has been raped or molested. How old will the next one be if she is loose on the street. Does anyone really want to take that chance. Glad she is in your town and not mine.

I'm going to take an opposing stand to this from most people here... yes, her sentence is different from many males in a similar situation, but I don't think the problem is that hers is too short, I think it is too long for most people. Prison and jail should be reserved for those who are a threat to society that cannot reasonable control themselves with alternative monitoring. Simple punishment is far less effective than treatment and a waste of resources. Why not let offenders with positive psychosexual evaluations out on GPS monitoring that they pay for themselves, receiving treatment they also pay for themselves? It would waste less resources AND would end up making society safer in the long run. The offender would be less likely to reoffend under such a system than they are under one that just throws them in Prison.

No. Utah sees a major earthquake every 350 years. Last one? 350 years ago.
