Why did DNews run this story? | 10:12 a.m. June 16, 2009
Well, let's see the PR director is a former DNews reporter.

And...

The assistant PR person is a former DNews reporter...

Any other guesses?

Where is the balance? | 10:41 a.m. June 16, 2009
Where is the rest of this story? The part where it explains how Superintendent Newbold had to move 600 people, while maintaining operations for 81,000 children, 10,000 teachers and at that same time having to lay off 170 staff members. Where is the part that tells about the people trying to maintain services for the states largest district, while being unable to do any work for your, soon-to-be, remaining district, because bitter east-side board members were constantly demanding to know if anyone is working for the remaining district while being paid by the current district?

WHERE IS THE REST OF THE STORY?

15-Hour Days? | 12:01 p.m. June 16, 2009
EVERY superintendent in this state works 15 hours day even when they aren't forming a new district. Welcome to the world of why you make the big bucks!

New idea? | 1:13 p.m. June 16, 2009
Midvale Elementary has always had neighborhood volunteers helping the children in the school. Even though the fifty-five year old boiler doesn't work.

Poor and diverse? | 1:20 p.m. June 16, 2009
Why doesn't he just say he wants more volunteers at Midvale Elementary? The whole point of people volunteering, I thought, was to do in their neighborhood school so they hav a connection with that school. What's the point of going to a poor and diverse school if you don't live in the area. Dr. Doty, this is NOT the LDS Church and the Canyons is not a global religion.

To pay a PR Director 100K with no education background (a degree in journalism) is simply beyond me.

How can that be justified in such tough economic times?

Teachers with a Ph.D can work thirty years and not even come close to that type of salary.

I can see why educators are so frustrated!!

They are being asked to work more for less!!

Simply put teachers are being set up to fail.

The rest of the story? | 7:22 p.m. June 16, 2009
I think the Jordan District PR department should be paying more attention to their own work and district and quit wasting time making nasty (and often uninformed) comments on newspaper websites whenever a story is run about the new district. Who is bitter? Don't you still have a district of your own? The split is done; it is moving forward and sorry you can't deal with the fact it is going to be a good thing. Get over it.

Perhaps the man should be a little more practical and let other people help him more. Really, does he deserve that much applause?
