Some people are such sad human beings. Nothing better to do then hack a Twitter
acct? Sounds like they need to move out of mommy and daddy's basement and
get a life.

Whoever did it doesn't really know the church. I'd be interested to

Maybe Twitter should implement confirmation emails and require that a person log into their email to change their password through a link. So even if a person guessed or knew the password they would not be able to change that password unless they have access to the email account on file for that Twitter account.

I had one of the first connection to the World Wide Web. This was those days
when Mosaic ruled the Web. Back then it was government, universities and some
organizations. There was no spam, Phishing, virus, identity thief or hanking.
After millions of taxpayer dollars, in one of the largest acts of corporate welfare, the government just gave away the Web. You wonder why we are in debt. Would paying back be too much to ask businesses that never give a darn thing back?
Today, the web is full of porn, scams, liars and all that capitalism attacks. I hear how the free market only improves things. What a lie!
Is there a book of Mormon mantras? "The dogs bark and the caravan moves on was taken from an Arab saying. Today, I can't read where anyone questions Mormonism that I don't read this same saying.
Just because a caravan moves on doesn't mean the cargo isn't hashish. I know no LDS caravan would be hulling kilos Red Lebanese. The profound imaginary of this statement escapes me.

... Twitter's useless. It's popular, yes. All the rage these days,
sure. But the platform's ultimately garbage.
The only thing Twitter does well is help people spread a brief message quickly to other people--whoever they are. But you never know exactly who else is following you, it's darn hard to find anyone you actually know who you really want to follow, you never really learn anything substantive from anyone else, and you sort throught and get a lot of garbage along the way. OK, fine, you can criticize Facebook for all the same reasons--but Facebook's problems in each of those areas are a lot smaller than Twitter's.
I hate to predict that Twitter will die out--it'll probably be around a while, regardless of what I think about it--but I won't mourn it for very long when it does.

I had a Twitter account for a short time and found "Accessible
Twitter" to be anything but accessible most of the time. I agree, finding
someone to follow or accept as a follower can be tricky.

Deseret News allows anti-Mormon comments to be posted all the time. They are an
instrument in presenting anti-Mormon literature. They never remove evil and
hateful comments made by gay extremists and by other hate groups. This comment
is sure to be removed. That is why I despise the DN and their typical media
extremism. It is time the Church and the DN part ways or that the DN receives
disciplinary action.

from my observations, this site allows a pretty wide range of dialouge and commentary. sounds like freedom of speech.

I agree with SLC Gal, and I personally think these hackers are total lowlifes.
Perhaps they need to get out of mommy and daddy's house and do some growing
up. Mommy and daddy however, may be in on it as well. Lowlifes all seem to hang
together like bull flies in a maggot nest.

Twitter is a neurological disease. I hate twitter. It has very limited
usefulness. What's disturbing is the way so many in our popular culture
just run flocking to the latest thing.....this is one thing I can do without. I
don't care what the latest celebrity or politician thinks or when
they're going to the restroom. Declutter your lives. Bag twitter.

Do we really need to be that involved in everything the rest of of the world
values? The longer the Church is around the more main stream it has become and
that brings about consequences. WE now have statues/painting in our homes to
rival any Catholic community. Let's do what we do best and stay close to
basic and be pround of our standards and doctrins. Better yet let's know
them and try and live them. D.

I am surprised the Church jumped on the Twitter bandwagon so quickly. They
usually are very slow to embrace any new technology. Quite frankly, they should
have waited on this particular technology a lot longer.

The Church is probably correct in wanting to use modern media to preach the
gospel and combat anti-LDS dogma. But it should be more selective (careful?) in
what it uses. Twitter is questionable at best.

While surprised the ChurchNews has a twitter account, I can see it as
beneficial. Elder Ballard has said that people should use new media to help
spread the message of the Church. Twitter is one form of new Media. Their use
of Twitter parallels the Church's creation of a YouTube Channel or
HDInternet Radio Station.
Twitter is also a tool being used to spread anti-mormon lies in 140 Character packages. S.P.A.M. , THe Society for the Prevention of Anti-Mormonism has reported the use of twitter for anti-mormon purposes before. Heck, they warned of the anti-mormon messages being sent from the Church News site days before KSL, Deseret News, and other sites reported it.

I know the Church is anxious to use all the tools available to reach an audience
for the Gospel. I am not interested in Twitter so I am not familiar with it,
however, with the little I do know of it I feel it is a useless instrument.
Facebook is as far as I am willing to go and I am able to use my page for Mormon
messages and other things that are more substaintial than a one liner on
Twitter. Not all new networks are good ones. I don't think the Church
should bother with a new account. As far as "anti" Mormon literature,
there is plenty of that everywhere. I believe there should be sites people can
go without having to be harassed for their beliefs and be uplifted by those who
share in those doctrines. Everyone has a place they can go to spew their agenda
so for GAY AGENDA I am sorry you feel your agenda has to be adopted by everyone
to validate your choices but I KNOW there are plenty of sites for you to use
that are viewed by Mormons and we are well aware of how you feel about us.

If we don't stay current on the web, we will be portrayed as backward and
uninformed. Although I don't twitter, I understand why the church is doing
it. We want to spread the gospel in everyway possible...and the internet seems
to be the way to do it in todays world. It also doesn't surprise me that
someone hacked into it. Opposition is strong...to me that means we are doing
what is right. I say... bring it on, we can handle it!

I have read the comments and would like to comment. Some one said that anything

The use of the media has brought the church into the mainstream.If the membership would take the three fold mission of the church seriously then I think there would be far less media in the church.
The members are failing in presenting the message so the media has stepped in.
Deserst News: We have "A prophet" and we have "profit".Deseret News needs to consider both and won't please all the people all the time.

The Church has never really been anti-technology, in answer to some posts above.
Their Web site is among the best, they have a youtube channel, and BYU's
Web courses are the best there are. Also, many of the Apostles have said the
internet is a wonderful tool that can be twisted, yes, in uses such as
pornography, but that can also be a wonderful way to spread the gospel, to keep
in touch with people, and to learn marvelous new things.
Which brings us to the anti-capitalist rantings of one post above. I don't know what planet the person lives on, but I would like to know if he/she thinks it "corporate welfare" that we can now use "peer production" to create our own FREE newspapers, encyclopedias, etc. I would also like to know if he/she thinks we would have good web courses, quick communication, and instant news information if the government were still in total control of the net.

As for members of the church supposedly worshiping their ancestors, it may
happen. They probably fall in the same category as the guy who goes inactive
because the Church won't let him be sealed to his horse in the temple.
There is a reason the Scriptures contain the parable of the 10 virgins. 5 were wise and prepared for the coming of the bridegroom. 5 were foolish and were not ready at his coming. It refers directly to the members of Christ's church for they were the ones invited to attend. Not all will be ready at his coming.
As for my using CaptMoroni, the Book of Mormon says that if all men were like unto Moroni, the very powers of hell would be shaken forever. I do not worship Capt. Moroni but i seek to mirror his faithfulness to the teachings of God.

If it is news to you that both twitter and the LDS Church are for idiots, then
you must not be paying much attention to the world. You are paranoid. What
makes you think the hackers had a gay agenda? What did they say exactly? How
many people posting comments know a single comment left by the hackers? You
show your paranoa by calling anybody with a view point that is slightly
different from yours an anti-mormon. You are at least as bigoted as the

I only praise God not my ancestors. I apreciate my ancestors, but in no way
worship them. Putting them on a mantle with candle lights, beside them, is
awfully strange and I would have to agree with Janet that this is truly bizarre
and not too classy! Some members take it to far. The next thing will be alters
and saints all lined up for certain blessings.
