spoken like a true teen/20-something who is too juvenile to appreciate anything in sports that happened before he was born

to him, Jessie Owens, Muhammed Ali, Wilt Chamberlain, and Knute Rockne are all irrelevant

not appreciating history, isn't the mark of someone who is young, it's simply an indication of his immaturity

"...where did you get the idea I have any wish to see Broncho gone"
If you are still having a slow time on the uptake I can continue to spell it out for you. I didn't say that you wish to see "Broncho" gone. Rather, I said that you should join those who are calling for his head, because saying that Anae is a mediocre OC is about as ridiculous as saying that Bronco needs to be let go of the head coach position.
RE: relevancy | 6:25 a.m. June 12, 2009
"to him, Jessie Owens, Muhammed Ali, Wilt Chamberlain, and Knute Rockne are all irrelevant"

BYU is nor ever will be a team like ND, Ohio, Florida, Alabama, etc. So, please drop the comparison right now you just look silly.

Those teams like Ali, Owens, Rockne are RELEVANT ... BYU is NOT!

Specially in the BCS era (aka today) where getting in the top-25 yearly is meaningless if you continue to lose against ranked teams (one win since 1999).

Achieve something today besides losing to ranked teams and the annual Vegas Bowl and only then will BYU become relevant. Until then hush about "Quest for Perfection" and "2013 National Champions" and enjoy your 2-2 Vegas Bowl accomplishments.

With that and the BCS busting, Why is it that these kids aren't even considering the U?

Either Whit isn't doing his job and they aren't getting offered; or the kids see the U as a non option.

-------------

Or judging by how pushy LDS missionaries are they get pressure from fellow church members as well as family and friends to pick BYU the "chosen program"?

As far as KW... If lesser LDS athletes equals 13-0 with a BCS win over a heavily favored #4 ranked team... then I would say his recruiting is just fine.

Mediocracy is prevelant in all of society and replacing it to improve whatever aspect that needs improvement is a normal functioning process... but to you it's obvioust that you equate my comments to mean that a reinvention is needed. How slow are you in reality...Just because a car has a flat tire doesn't mean that there is a need for a new car.

Running a running play with 4 seconds before the half and losing the ball instead of taking the obvious knee definatly leads one to question ability. Continued similar mistakes and then follwing with over conservative play at times when it should be obvious to start using everything in the playbook definately spells mediocrity.....Anae will never be a Scovil, a Chow, a Sarkisian, or even a Gary Crowton for that matter... who is also a great Offensive Coordinator.....but was only a mediocre head coach.

The following two statistics about mighty BYU's football and basketball program say it all:

In football, BYU is 3-22 against ranked teams in the last 25 games (to put this in perspective, Utah beat 3 ranked teams last year);

In basketball, BYU hasn't won a NCAA Tournament Game since 1992.

I don't understand why BYU fans are so delusional about these two MASSIVE problems with their programs. I guess all is well in happy valley.

Utah's last 10 years
1999 9-3 MWC 1, unranked
2000 4-7 MWC 5, unranked
2001 8-4 MWC 3, unranked
2002 5-6 MWC 5, unranked
2003 10-2 MWC 1, 21 AP/Coaches
2004 12-0 MWC 1, 4 AP 5 Coaches
2005 7-5 MWC 4, unranked
2006 8-5 MWC 3, unranked
2007 9-4 MWC 3, unranked
2008 13-0 MWC 1, 2 AP 4 Coaches

Question: Is Utah an emerging Top 25 program, or did they simply have a couple of perfect storm type seasons?

Comparison:
MWC Championships
BYU - 4
Utah - 4

Top 25 Finishes
BYU - 4
Utah - 3

10+ win seasons
BYU - 4
Utah - 3

The difference:

BYU has been winning conference championships and finishing in the Top 25 consistently for the past 30 years.

The is the first decade that Utah has ever finished in the Top 25 more than once or won more than one conference championship.

Oh and I failed to mention that that particular play was inside our own 7 yd line...we had a significant lead which was cut significantly when the other team picked up and recovered the ball and scored... thus making a game that BYU actually played much better than that particular oppnent did... seem a whole lot closer than it actually was... dispite the win. Other OC's have made questionable calls but I think for at least now that will remain the most obvious dumb call made at a BYU game.

Yes I have to agree....but at least I can say that we at least show up in football in the top 25 on a very consistant basis and not every 10 years or so. Face it our football is more consistant than yours. We concede the same vice versa your Basketball program ....pretty even steven if you ask me. Now then let's just both go out and romp on the BCS conferences and bust some more mythical doors down. The rivalry will continue and will play itself out anyway so why worry about it.

To Scoobie,

Good points. It is always nice talking to a reasonable BYU fan.
re: Crimson Club | 11:31 a.m. June 12, 2009
To put this in perspective:

In football:

BYU has finished ranked in the Top 25 and has won 10+ games 3 times in the last 3 years.

Utah has finished ranked in the Top 25 (in both polls) and won 10+ games 4 times in their entire history.

Maybe Utah has turned the corner and has become a consistent Top 25 finisher and MWC champion. Only time will tell.

BYU has been doing that for 30 years.

Wins against Top 25 teams are nice, but you have to counter-balance that with consistent losses to MWC teams.

In MWC games during the Kyle/Bronco era:

Bronco is 27-5
Kyle is 22-10

Kyle took over a program that had just busted the BCS. Bronco took over a program that had just finished 3 straight losing season.

But, Kyle has lost twice as many conference games as Bronco.

Beating Top 25 teams like UCLA is impressive only if you don't follow it up by losing to 3 or 4 MWC teams like UNLV every year, which is what Kyle has done in 3 of the 4 years he's led the team.
Me Myself and I | 11:48 a.m. June 12, 2009

One more thing thats consistant is head to head Utah has beat BYU almost 2-1. 53-33-4 says a lot.

Both teams have had their runs of winning with the Utes coming before the 1970's and decent national attention for either team. BYU of course dominated the 80's when both teams had better media coverage. Now the rivalry is where it's supposed to be with each meeting between the two any one's ball game. Long live the Holy War!!!
Where's Stockton | 12:50 p.m. June 12, 2009
One call does not an OC make (or break).
Consider this:
In 2008...
The BYU offense was 6th in the nation in passing offense, 16th in the nation in total offense, 26th in the nation in scoring offense, 2nd in the nation in 3rd down conversion percentage, 5th in the nation in 4th down conversion percentage, 10th in the nation in 1st downs/game, and 13th in the nation in passing efficiency.
If that's mediocrity, then you've raised the bar even higher than Bronco does.
Sj Bobkins | 12:53 p.m. June 12, 2009
Amazing any article about Utah athletics is panned by most BYU fans, while every article on BYU has more hate comments from yutz fans than interest from BYU fans. Yutz act like you've been there before, show some class, let BYU fans have their props as they let you have yours. This whole jealous/attack emotion of yours isn't healthy, you can't live and let live. You must ridicule everything BYU, when your recent success's should cause you to love your school without having to hate another.
Act like you have been there before, and make Gary Patterson the 2009 UofU MVP, he handed you a win and the MWC Championship.

????????Now I'm supposed to challenge my own comments.

I can think of at least 10 to 12 questionable calls in one game alone that really blantantly stand out... and that was the Washington Game. Jake Plumber almost singlehandedly handed our heads back to us in a basket. Our offense was excruciatingly painful to watch as they time after time put our defense in Dire Straits. And if your going to give me stats than go look at some of the stats of offenses Gifford Nelson, Marc Wilson, Jim McMahon, Steve Young, Robbie Boscoe and other QB's while either Doug Scovil or Norm Chow were the OC's you're going to see us almost leading the nation in all catagories. Are you even remotely aware that just under Jim McMahon alone the entire offensive record book with exception of running catagories were totally obliterated...and that Ty Detmer added even more. McMahon set 71 NCAA records creating 17 new catagories neverbefore maintained. It took 3 qtrbacks to break most of his records...and he still holds a few. For BYU Your STATS are about middle of the road.

"when your recent success's should cause you to love your school without having to hate another."

I can do both: I love my school and yet still hate BYU... specially when your recruits start predicting "2013 National Championship(s)".

Similar to...

I love the Jazz AND I hate the fakers.
I love the 49ers AND I hate Cowboys.

Re: multitasking | 10:27 p.m. June 12, 2009
No one is predicting anything! Heaps just said that it will be possible to go to a national championship and that he's going to work his butt off to try to get one. That isn't far fetched. With the way BYU has been recruiting in recent years it could be possible by then. Were the Utes not trying for a national championship last year?

Think about it.

BCS Monopoly | 12:05 a.m. June 13, 2009
It IS absolutely FAR fetched to think BYU as a non-BCS team has shot at title game by 2013.

Here's why:

1. BYU needs to start beating ranked opponents (one win since 1999 won't cut it)
2. Has to go undefeated (only team 1984)
3. All BCS team except ONE must have two loses

Utah did #1 and #2 in 2008 and still didn't get a shot because of #3. In order for #3 to be irrelevant I think BYU will have to go undefeated 2 straight years which is NOT likely.

One more thing...When Doug Flutie broke McMahons' career passing yardage record... the little munchkin had almost 23% more playing time than JIMBO did.... that's because MAC backed up a pretty healthy Marc Wilson for two years. And Why don't you ask the little Munchkin's buddie(he and his co-player friend Eric Dickerson) and their SMU Mustangs counldn't hold off the MAC attack despite a 20 point lead with only 4 minutes left on the clock. Between the two of them they had nearly 500 yards rushing before that last 4 minutes....and don't give me the old well they had their non starters in the game...bull crap....James and Dickerson were still in the Game and they were out to run up the yardage count... a fired up McMahon was the difference. He played one heck of a game for a kid who is totally blind in one eye.
Where's Stockton??? | 11:24 a.m. June 13, 2009
Don't get me wrong! I love the storied players/coaches/coordinators of BYU's legacy years. They came out on the field and consistently put up unbelievable numbers. McMahon, Detmer, Young, and even Doman were downright phenomenal players and will probably be the best at what they did forever! That, however, is my whole point. If we compare Anae to someone like Norm Chow AT THIS POINT, then it's easy to say he's a mediocre OC. If, on the other hand, we keep in mind that he has only been on OC for four years and then we go and look at some of the numbers, it's pretty impressive. My fear is that having expectations so high or jumping to conclusions about how much better Anae "should" be turns into letting him go and then getting an OC that does worse.

Look please get your own name that way I don't look like I'm talking to myself and answering myself too..The whole original premis of my original comment is that BYU historically has always had a Defensive secondary as their weak link. It's been a prevalent problem for ages. So in order to counter that BYU has gone with creating Great Offenses. We've had success at doing that....simply outscoring our opponents. The 2008 team was a dream team and should have been able to have done even better than it did. It fell apart at seasons end and you can't blame injuries or the lack of high caliber players...they were there. But the offense struggled all season long. Many are familiar with the type of offense BYU is accustomed to playing. Everytime someone wants to add the run and make it a bigger factor then the offense collapses. It happened when Sheidie and Bybee were Qb's under edwards and back with Virgil Carter when the Ogden Brothers were supposed to be the big running playmakers. At BYU...the run should only be used to sey up the pass...otherwise don't useit

I have to throw this one in just for the fun of it....My good friend Todd Christiansen.....if they had thrown the ball more to him instead of handing off to him he wouldn't have turned out to be the fumble bum that he was...and we would have beaten Frank Kush and Arizona State in that final WAC meeting between the two teams before ASU went to the PAC. (Sorry Tood but three straight fumble turnovers inside ASU's 5 yd line)...just too much to forgive and forget....Obviously the Scouts took notice of that too.....You just weren't a great Fullback....(LOL)...Howie...
