I consider myself a fairly "typical reader" of the D-news and thought it was a good article. MMA is a sport and it's in the sports section...makes sense to me.

Dude grow up, there are allot worse stories in the Sunday paper that an MMA contest. Just read the front page..Terrorists, bodies found from the plane crash, a Riverton man shoots and kills his brother, on and on. So you want to get on here and complain about MMA on Sunday. Are you just looking for something to complain about, because right now you sound pretty silly.

If you look at the World & Nation section nearly every article is about kids dying or bodies being discovered. It's called NEWS!! The Deseret News editors are supplying us with information from all aspects of life, both inside of our state and out. Just because you don't like or agree with an article doesn't mean that they're supposed to stop reporting it. Open your mind a little bit!

At least, for a while, we have the First Amendment which, amoung other things allows us to report news. If you don't like MMA fights, move on to something you enjoy. You do have a choice in what you read. Don't try to stop the reporting of MMA fights or regulate the news. Many of us enjoy these fights and enjoy hearing about them. That is our right and the reporters responsibility to accurately report. Congratulations to all the fighters who participated in this event. Sounds like they did a good job, even the ones that lost their fights.

I would like to thank the Deseret News for doing such an awesome job reporting on this event. These athletes work as hard in their sport as anyone and they show tremendous respect for each other. It's not for everyone, just like basketball is not for me. I really appreciate the Deseret News being open enough to understand the merits of this great sport. These MMA athletes are absolute hereos to me. From Rad Martinez who takes care of his father who has a brain injury to David Castillo who trains for hours a day to provide a better life for his family, and to achieve his dream. Lyn has the right to not want to read about MMA, but if she is a fan of other sports I would like to invite her to come with my wife to the next event. I am confident my wife could explain "the sport" aspect of MMA to her. Props to Amy Donaldson for a great read.

like it or not wrestling (aka mixed martial arts) was the first sport in the world and recorded history. It is the only sport mentioned in the bible.
It was one of the original sports in the olympics.
Until around the 1950's when it became a farce. Professional wrestling was one of the most popular sports in the country.
traveling professonal wrestlers would go around the country and make money fighing the local farmers.
Due to title nine destroying the sport of wrestling in college, we now have gone back to our roots of true professional wrestling (aka Mixed martial arts)

I'm glad the Deseret News reports MMA fighting so I can see my son too. I don't think people realize just how hard these kids work and train for their short time in the cage. Fighting is a sport that requires discipline, hard work, dedication, and guts far beyond most other sports. Not many people would willingly get into a cage to test their fighting skills, knowing they could be seriously injured, especially in front of a crowd. My son, his teammates and their competitors have my utmost respect and admiration.

When are there going to be other fights? I'm a typical Deseret News reader. I just had no idea there were fights going on in the valley. Can someone at the DNews publicize when the other fights are going to be? I'd really appreciate it. Or did I just miss it?

OK, the MMA guys are trained, courageous, dedicated, regulated and legal. Hats off to 'em. But does it say anything about the rest of us when we lap up an event that's just a couple of swords removed from the gladiators? Does anyone plan on bringing in lions to juice up the action even more? I guess "not for everyone" is kind of an understatement.

Fantastic job Deseret News! I am always happy to see MMA getting the recognition it deserves. No athlete puts this much heart into any other sport on the planet. These competitors deserve to get noticed.

How come the Heavy weight title fight is not mentioned. Ty "401k" Lee fought a great fight also and he deserves recognition. He won the fight and title in the first round.

The fights were amazing! These boys put so much effort into what they do. MMA is a sport for all....Give it a chance, you will fall in love! Good job D News! I hope we hear more from you on the MMA fights in Utah!

First off Lyn Robison if your not into MMA then that's cool, but choose not to read the article. However it certainly does not lessen the quality of the Deseret News itself. I mean I am not into people kidnapping or abusing children, but I don't blame the publication for reporting it. You obviously do not like MMA, and that's alright, but use the publication as a scapegoat for your opinion.

On the flip side, the event was awesome! The fighters were well trained, respectful, and talented. The fan were appreciative, and all the other details of the event were second to none! Watch out UFC!

That is correct there were not 8,000 fans in attendance! Funny though "Anonymous" how you seemed to be pretty excited about it...also even more curious was your use of the word "misrepresentation." I swear I have heard that used before somewhere by someone just recently. Hope you enjoyed the event, and got to see the fights while you were busy counting people in their seats!
