The year previous was the same. But still Heaps gets all of the praise. That year it was Utah's Manning that was ranked #2 QB by Scout.com behind Heaps. I watched Skylines Championship game from last year and it wasn't Heaps that pulled it off but rather his teammates. He had some awesome WR's. He was a no show at the "All American game" that he participated in last year as well. It's amazing what publicity will do. Todays BIG announcement brings to an end alot of years of being placed into the limelight. He has had alot of practice in front of the microphone. Heaps is a good athlete but won't be the answer to BYU's issues.
4 years from now... | 1:45 p.m. June 4, 2009
4 years from now, this kid will likely be returning from his mission. If he really is this good, will he really want to return to the third fiddle in a non-BSC conference?
to interesting.. | 2:11 p.m. June 4, 2009
all byu does is recruit local talent. they recruited lloyd who was the QB at the Las Vegas competition - lloyd chose Stanford.

Come on Heaps you can take your mission with your wife or through all the firesides you will do in college and the pros. We already have 60,000 out there you can do your part on the field!!!
Re: Anonymous @ 12:48 p.m. | 2:20 p.m. June 4, 2009
He really is that good. He's the #1 rated QB on Scouts.com and he has 26 offers. Apparently BYU isn't the only school that thinks he can play, and play well, at the college level. And what does BYU's defense have to do with the QB getting sacked? BYU has done very well in the past protecting their quarterback so no need to worry there.

"we'd trade that Sugar Bowl and unbeaten season for 10-3"

Still, I would NEVER trade a NC for a Sugar Bowl win.

"Jake Heaps, Ross Apo and Zac Stout all verbally committed during a press conference at a Salt Lake City diner. Heaps is rated as the No. 1 QB by Scout.com, Apo is the No. 56 receiver in the country, and Stout is considered the No. 5 middle linebacker in the country."

What happened, we won the sugar bowl, we beat BYU once in the last three years, why aren't we playing in the biggest non bowl game of the year in Dallas? Why don't we have the national respect BYU does (even though we aren't a consistent 10+ win team year in and year out)? Why can't we get number one recruits? Why can't we recruit with BYU in Utah? Wah!!! Wah!!! wah!!!

Word on the street is he's not planning on a mission. So one year behind Max and then take over the reins. This could be very, very good!

It's true Mike you are one of the obsessed utah fans, how else do you explain why you are posting here and making a comment? You are probably one a closet BYU who has a "Quest for Perfection" Shirt tucked in your Drawer or hanging in your closet. After all you made reference to it.

"Silly Ute"

" 1. Ty Detmer - He set the bar high for future college quarterbacks to shoot for and won the Heisman with a magical 1990 season highlighted by his nationally televised 28-21 win over #1 Miami.
2. Jim McMahon - His Hail Mary and comeback win over SUM in the 1980 Holiday Bowl is still one of the greatest performances of all-time."
Ty Detmer is currently under investigation by the Securities exhange commission for investment fraud with his company ': Heisman Investments "
Jim McMahon is cutting commercials for male enhancement and Erec.. dysfunction. McMahon was Catholic as was clay brown the receiver.. that's why they called it," The Holy Mary" pass. Yes that was a good win but won by Catholics.
So Much for that character building excuse the WhYnners seem to always use . Let's just hope the blew bloods can make it to another Dust Bowl ..only this time win at least one in a row.
Same goes for Utah only they'll be after their 9th yes I said ninth in a row... ever bowl game played the MWC darlings, Whereas a bowl game to YBU would be like taking your friends sister to the prom !

TheHailstorm | 3:30 p.m. | 4:46 p.m. June 4, 2009
what character does utah build, oh another arrest and charge for a current ute player, nice...your bowl wins end at 8, while you are drowning your sorrows in your half empty beer can.
Re: Shoemaker | 4:56 p.m. June 4, 2009
What's your point? He didn't do anything. That's the point the guy was making about Shoemaker...highly touted and did nothing. No one's bagging on Paul, just using him as an example that these rankings are just a bunch of dudes' opinions that really don't mean a whole lot.
Re: SJ Bobkins | 4:57 p.m. June 4, 2009
Thanks for the rankings. Who cares? Stanford in the top 10? When have they had a good team? These rankings and all this talk are ridiculous.
I don't get it! | 5:44 p.m. June 4, 2009
Why people talk about the "LDS athlete" Like it's some kind of club or something. It's a freakin church! THe LDS church is a church! You BYU fans talk and care way to much into recruiting. Seriously stop for a minute and ponder why you care so much about Jake Heaps. And now your spitting comments about BCS games and winning league championships? Give me a break!
Hey DNEWS | 6:14 p.m. June 4, 2009

Congratulations!, in identifying the LDS church as, surprise, a church, you win the prize of Grand "MOTO".....Master Of The Obvious.

Ouch.

And, get real, amigo. If Heaps had committed to your school (Utah, I'm guessing????....) you'd be singing his praises as well.

See you in PROVO this year!

BYU 31 - Utah 17
Max Hall | 7:07 p.m. June 4, 2009
...just threw me an interception while I was working at my desk.

Sure this kid is a top recruit but he likely won't take a snap for 4 years folks (Senior year, Redshirt, Mission, etc). He'll be a slow, out-of-shape, and awkward RM. Who cares?
To: Max Hall | 7:07 p.m. | 7:15 p.m. June 4, 2009
Silly ute...you are now sounding like a scared ute.
Tempest | 7:46 p.m. June 4, 2009
i am going to byu on a full ride for Cornerback and all i can say is i will flat out destroy little Heaps during Junior Day. BRING IT!
Lyman DeKoquonut | 11:42 p.m. June 4, 2009
BYU has Robbie Buckner on the field this year, they already have a huge advantage!
Annual Vegas Bowl | 6:32 a.m. June 7, 2009
hmm... | 10:56 a.m. June 4, 2009
"You just described BYU the last few years, what they will be this year, and for years to come."

Headed to the annual Vegas Bowl loss.

BYU is slow their D doesn't scare anyone, why else would Oklahoma schedule BYU? Increasing SOS or the fact that 6 teams scored at well on BYU last year. Playing in the Big-12 guarantees OK a shot at the title there's no need for them to take the added risk of playing a tough non-conference team.
Where's Stockton???? | 7:43 p.m. June 9, 2009
We've seen this before....he and five or six others will be vying for the start and no one will actually know until just before the first game....but in his case it's going to be two... three years down the road and who knows he may go on a mission first... so maybe we won't even see him for 4 years.....Meanwhile the secondary is still the weak link.....when will BYU ever get around to having an actual full coverage Defense.....the most blatant and obvious all time critical need.....The only problem on the offense right now is having just an average offensive coordinator and there are several good LDS ones out there....so why not be keeping an eye out for that position also.
