Is Wayne Holland really that out of touch? Huntsman has been largely MIA. Herbert will be much more engaged in the legislative process.

Waving to the crown
No different than Huntsman

Herbert is what most of Utah thought they were getting with Huntsman and more. Huntsman is a rino and Herbert is a true republican who will pull us out of this funk that Obama and Huntsman have created.....give me the old Utah back! Go Gary!

Oh great. Get ready for more government of the developers, by the developers and for the developers.

Huntsman has been a surprisingly good governor. I am concerned the Herbert will be more than a little eager to please his developer friends in the legislature. Before everyone celebrates the fact that we'll have a "real" Republicanin charge now they should remeber that the GOP that Herbert represents is a failed party with no future.

Huntsman was a leader with foresight. He will be missed.

To Politico: I think you hit the nail on the head. Herbert will better represent what the majority of Utahns are looking for in a Governor. Plus, Herbert is less about kissing baby's and cutting ribbons and more about actually getting the job done. He's a do-what's-right-and-not-what's-popular kind of guy. I'm happy for Governor Huntsman and think he will do an outstanding job but I couldn't be more excited about this change.

@politico, Herbert a true repub? I can't wait for him to whine about socialism,( They won't let me ride my atv in the wilderness!) and then keep our soviet style liquor sales!

Gary Herbert is a breath of fresh air. I attended a recent convention, and listened as he gave the most insightful speech of the night. I then watched him fold up and put down chairs after the session. A few years earlier, I met him for the first time. He talked with attendees extensively, listened carefully, and even gave out his business card. I sensed no aura of superiority even though he was the new Leitenant Governor. We need more common men in government like Gary Herbert. Unpretentious. Respect for others. Consistent on principles.
Utah is in trouble | 4:14 p.m. May 17, 2009
If Herbert tries to be governor the same way he was Utah COunty Commish, we are in for some rough times. THis guy was bought and sold by anyone with enough dollars. He has never stood up to anyone. He is a sheep not a shepherd.
DOes anyone else remember when he got a ticket at UVSC and then got that cop fired? A little too Palinesque for me.
He also raised his pay almost every year and never did run a fiscally responsible budget- Utah county's roads and development are still crappy thanks to him.
He has also been very good at saying he will do one thing to people's faces and then doing the opposite behind closed doors. (I guess he will represent the majority of Utah Republicans then).
Thank goodness we get to vote him out in 2010.

this is such great news!!! this surely will shake up the utah political scene...or will it? Shurtleff is running for senate vs. bob bennett. likely will lose and then take on Herbert for Governor and win...

Herbert has presided over some of the most corrupt agencies Utah has ever known. He's had a chance to make an attempt to rein in the Department of Professional Licensing (DOPL) and has done nothing. The public and medical practitioners have informed him of their illegal tactics and practices. Hes had evidence of lives and businesses ruined and he is too naive and gullible to even investigate. His buddy over there says there are no problems, so everyone else must be wrong. Just what we need a Gutless, Gullible Governor. A pathetic political puppet. Please wake up Gary, take a stand for the people of this state and make a difference. Huntsman promised to clean up this corrupt agency before election and then dodged it. Possibly because it was under your management and responsibility. And you have either wallowed in naive ignorance or hid from your responsibility. Take a stand, make a difference. Keep some promises for a change. Be a governor we can be proud of.

Based on public records of action and non-action, Utah just take a full step backwards.

We have seen this type of gop before: beholden, arrogant, insider. Tries to appear to be one of the sheep.

Time will tell.

Don't we have some gop's who are better than this?

Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert waves to the crowd with his wife, Jeanette, after being sworn in for his second term in office at the Utah State Capitol in January. President Obama on Saturday named Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. as his choice to be ambassador to China. Herbert, an Orem Republican, will succeed Huntsman.
