A futbol game with a football score is still no match for the noble and majestic game of real FOOTBALL.
----------------------------
The ghost of Vince Lombardi called. Says anyone who calls it "majestic" loses his fan card.
It's worse than that. They did it all in an hour and a half. Imagine an NFL team up 42-0 early in the third quarter and you have what RSL did to New England.
He must be rolling in his grave.
Re: Majestic? | 10:28 p.m | 11:07 p.m. April 25, 2009
If Vince Lomdardi called it was to lament the fact that a kickyball activity is referred to by some as football.
He must be rolling in his grave.

You must not know which game is older.
Every goal was quality, unlike some of the Crew gimmies a few weeks ago (though I don't mind gimmies either).
Amazing game.
PASSING!
They were crisp, controlled, and spot on pretty much the whole game. This one was easily determined by the midfield, and our midfielders just absolutely, rediculously dominated.
I don't know how Will Johnson does it. That guy is going full tilt the entire freaking match. He must be running 20K over 90 minutes, I swear.
Good to see Andy get a goal.
Good to see Clint get a goal. (and what a goal!!!)
As a long time critic of Mathis, "I am coming around"
His goal was definatly one of the finest I have seen in a long time, but perhaps more impressive was his play in support of the defence. He seemed to be everywhere lastnight.
Only a fool would go on a site like this and try to criticize the performance of RSL last night.
Also Hats off to over 14,000 loyal fans who braved the weather and chose to watch soccer over a big Jazz basketball game. "not bad"
Wish the Jazz had been able to pull it off though.
Now here is to a needed road win at Colorado next week!!!
A night I will remember for a long time!
Great game RSL! Can't wait for the next home game!
So glad you enjoy watching the 15th best soccer league in the world.

aren't even the Ogden Raptors of soccer.

Weak sauce.
Yes, and I also know which game is better. Futbol isn't even in the same realm as the real (not Real) game of FOOTBALL.
Let's see:
England, Spain, Italy, Germany...any argument there?
Didn't think so. That's 4...
Brasil & Argentina for sure...that makes 6...
You know what...top to bottom, Mexico is better. We own them on the national team stage, but their league is better than MLS, sorry. 7...
I'm going to say that Japan is better, too...more techincal skill, more flair (because of all their Brazilian influence), so that's 8.
Going back to Europe, again, top to bottom, I think definitely France and Holland, and probably Portugal also. Um, that's 11. I'm probably forgetting somebody (not Scotland, though...they have two great clubs and eight very ordinary ones), but that would put MLS 12th at best.

Yeah, it's in about 200 realms that gridiron is not.
But I'm sure if you think a lot harder, you'll be able to come up with an insult. That's obviously what you've come here for, but you've failed so far.
You come into my house, you gotta come stronger than that, son.

This game was by far better to watch then the Jazz game last night. I actually think that I am starting to cheer for RSL more than the Jazz. Im getting tired of watching basketball. Im starting to notice all of the times the game stops, and how the last 5 minutes lasts forever.

The NBA needs to import a rule from the NFL where you can decline free throws and just inbound the ball again. That would put a stop to the constant fouling at the end.

Ahh its soo good to go back to DC and brag about RSL to DC fans...my first visit to Rio Tinto..priceless
----------------
Please be kind when bragging about your stadium. We do envy you that.
You are correct.
3rd time in history 6 goals have been scored by a team in a half, first time by six different players
14,000 thousand fans for a regular season game???
Utah football attracts more than 3 times that amount for a regular season game. BYU attracts more than 4 times that amount.
14,000 is hardly more than the attendance at Utah's spring game.
Yeah futbol has really attracted the attention of sports fans in this state.
FOOTBALL is king..... futbol..... not so much.
You want to count the legues that are better ok.
1. Barclays
2. Spain
3. Germany
4. Italy
5. France
6. Brazil
7. Mexico
8. Argentina
9. Maybe Portugal but I would put the MLS above it as Portugal has 4 teams and than really nothing else.
10. ?????? Who?
No matter how you slice it the MLS is getting better and is a top 10 league. The japan and Russian leagues are jokes. The only reason critics never put the MLS in a top 10 is beacuse by doing so Euro snobs and South American fanatics would cause the writer to lose street cred. But we all know how much Euro Snobs and S. American fans really know about the sport (nothing more than what they see a few miles from the home).
So, because the Jazz only average 14,00-18,000 per game, you then would say that they do not have the attention of the state of Utah? The big thing that yo are forgetting is that BYU and Utah only play 6 home games a year.
And I would love to see more than 42,000 at a Ute football game, other than the BYU game (and I would know being a student there who attends every game).
Not that the facts will alter your opinion, but the fact is that the Utes are averaging more that 45,000 per game.
Heck, Utah women's gymnastics draws more than 14,000.
Face it Real fans, the only questions that remain to be answered about RSL are as follows:
1) Can they survive more than 5 years, and
2) What will become of the taxpayer funded stadium when RSL folds.
My answer to number 1 is.... NO, they will fold just like the Blaze and the Starzz.
And number 2.... Probably a high school futbol stadium, or a Saturday morning farmers market... or both.
Look, when the Jazz have 15,000 at the ESA, they also have many times that amount listening on the radio and watching TV. Perhaps 50 thousand or more following each game, for close to 100 games per year including preseason and playoffs.
RSL may get 14,000 at the stadium, but the media audience is tiny compared to the Jazz, or BYU, or Utah for that matter.
It's only a matter of time RSL fans, this franchise is destined to fold and the taxpayers will be stuck with the albatross of RSL stadium.
I personally like soccer and hope that it is wildly successful here, but I would NEVER argue that because it's the "most popular" that it's somehow superior, especially in America.
Until our top athletes start playing Soccer instead of Basketball, Baseball, Football etc. we will ALWAYS play second fiddle here and be weak on a national stage.
