I have yet to see an article saying that a player or team is not working harder than the previous year. Hopefully it is true. I suspect most of the time players are just repeating well rehearsed lines they have heard growing up.

What idiotic statements from Brother Hall. Hmm, it is March so how can he let his playing talk? And, I'm pretty sure Max didn't call a press conference to say these things but was helping a reporter do his job by answering a question when a microphone was shoved in his face. Lastly, maybe YOU didn't make any mistakes as a 24-25 year old because you're perfect but most of us do. Fortunately for us, our mistakes weren't made on TV and in front of hundreds of thousands of people. As a parent, I would want my child learning from his mistakes and working harder to improve rather than wallowing in self pity and caving in to his critics. Max is doing exactly what you would hope he would do in March so he can then show you and all his idiotic critics in September how one learns from his mistakes and gets better! Until then, lay off!

Is he smart enough to get rid of the ball quicker, and not telegraph passes, through to the Blue and White?

Can he hold onto the football, instead of get stripped a dozen times like he did last year?

I don't care if he is ten feet tall, fast as lightning, and ways 800 pounds. If he can't hold on to the ball and make better decisions, he'll be as bad next season as he was last, and anyone who doesn't think Max was the reason for the losses was looking through funny glasses.

Why does the fastest player on the team -- Stephen Covey -- never see action, when half the teams on the country bring someone like him into the game in the read zone? Florida used Tim Tebow that way when he was a freshman.

I love that Hall is leading his team with the right words - "go out and do your very best and have fun playing the game". Hopefully, this marks an end to unrealistic scripture slogans perfect for Sunday School manuals but not a football team.

I see Hall's senior season a lot like John Beck's was - his last chance to leave a strong legacy at the Y. I remember that, despite big numbers, a lot of fans were down on Beck at this time in his career too. The key is going to be how the Cougs end the season because it is very likely they will start it 1-2 even with a very solid team. Hall has a ton of playmakers around him. Our young receivers, Pitta, George, Unga, Tonga - we are more talented offensively on paper than we have been in years. But a lot will probably come down to how well and quickly the new o-line gells.

I know this is merely a blog site, and we the ignorant public, i.e. part of the great unwashed don't understand the complexities of talking into a microphone. However, Max I luv you guy's and I want only success for the "MIGHTY COUGS" so please keep your comments about Bigger, Stronger & Faster between you and your trainers, team mates and coaches. I agree with the guy that pointed out the "bromances awkwardness" of the title of this interview. Who in there right mind is not working on speed, strengh, & agility? You have those things just like any other "D 1" Q.B. your problem is keeping focues under pressure. I am glad to see you finally seem to see that flaw and you are man-ing up and taking steps to correct these area of your game. Hang in there and lets "GO Cougars" in "09" I am excited for the up coming season.

Being beefier or quicker isn't what was wrong with Max to begin with. If you bothered to watch HIM play, you'd have seen that he constantly zeroed in on his receiver, very seldom looking off. That's why he was so interception prone later in the season when everyone realized that--and that's thanks to TCU's coaches.

Wonder if Bronco even knows this? He certainly never corrected the problem after the TCU game. Makes you wonder about BYU's coaching staff.

Max had better mature as a QB this year or Bronco will end up with his worst year: 7-5.

I read this article with some puzzelment. Who wrote it? There is no tag line associated with it that I can find. I suppose its probably an article written this time last year with a couple of cosmetic changes to prop up the Courgar faithful regarding how much improved Hall will be this year. I remember reading a Harmon article this time last year where he quoted Hall as saying he was going to be "more composed" this year (2008 season). If anything he let the Courgar faithful down, after all two personal foul penaltites (Utah State and Utah) doesn't demonstrate composure. It is way too early to determine if Hall will make the necessary improvements to his mental game. His passing skills are adequate for the schemes BYU runs, but his team would benefit from some signs of mature leadership as opposed to emotional outburst when things don't go his way. Perhaps he and Mendenhall could learn from each other, one shows no emotion and the other needs to control his. No news here.

I wish max hall would shut up and play ball, instead of telling us how great he is again. This is what got byu in trouble last year, too much talk and arrogance. I think we can all see now how stupid "quest for perfection" was and how it blew up in our faces. Hey bronco, you're right - perfection is the ultimate goal that we should all be striving for, but we don't need to wear it on a t-shirt. Byu is seriously lacking in the humility dept. If we could shut up, go about our business, and quietly live righteous on and off the field we could be really good. That goes for all you byu fans looking at this board too. Its no wonder that every fan west of the mississippi hates our guts. We have become an overconfident, arrogant, self-righteous bunch of people who are constantly beating on our chests and looking down on others. I once read about something like this in a great book. The pride cycle hit the cougars and their fans last year, and we still haven't learned our lesson. Be humble cougars.

It's very hard to choose just one of many Max moments but for me, there is no question which one it is. Near the end of the 1st half last NOV against the Utes there was a play that summed up everything there is to know about Hall. It's a close game, kittys are driving and Maxie throws one of many picks to a Ute defender and THEN, and this is my favorite moment, he loses all composure and after the play is dead he pushes a Ute defender down. We get 15 yards extra for the senseless penalty and then BJ goes house to David Reed.
I love Max Hall at QB for the Y. No composure and when playing a team w/ a winning record with speed and talent, he absolutely folds.

Utah, you had a great season a few years back, then the program imploded and coach jumped ship. Or coach jumped ship and then the program imploded. You choose. Now you've had another great season and a coach who is sticking around. We'll see.

I am afraid that Bronco and crew need to be much better than adequate. They certainly are paid to be better than adequate. Their play calling needs to be better than adequate. Their on field coaching needs to be better than adequate. Their judgement of players and talent needs to be better than adequate. Adequate won't beat the Utes this rebuilding year. Adequate won't beat TCU this year. And adequate certainly won't beat Oklahoma or a down Florida State. BYU doesn't represent adequate. BYU football must be better than adequate. That begins with coaching, then talent and execution. We deserve better than adequate!

You sound like one of those fair weather bandwagon fans. Just jump off now, because we don't need or want you, and you make the school look bad.

Can Max Hall have one interview without receiving constant criticism from "fans." What is he supposed to say, "yeah, I'm trying to get slower and weaker so that I can suck more." Of course he is going to try to get faster and stronger, and where I believe help is needed is in good decision making the way Beck was able to make quick decisions. That's why Brandon Doman is his QB coach and so if anyone can help him out I think he will be able to. And quit acting like Max Hall hasn't accomplished anything. Good crap he's 22-5, 7th all time for passing yards for BYU QB's, and has the 11th highest QB efficiency rating in the country, even after the turnovers from last year. So all you Madden playing, use my beer gut as a pop can holder, network marketing, never played one flipping down of real football in my life "fans" need to shove it and show some freakin support.
