Utah State basketball: Schedule for Aggies may grow

Coach, life ain't fair. Schedule some games...it will make a huge difference. Thanks for a fun season, and for being a great representative of our great school. Congrats to all the student athletes...great job.

Start next year with maybe one away game ("one-and-done") against a power team, and let's see what we think after that. In the end, though, the best thing to do is keep winning your conference.

You can argue with Coach's successes over the years, a few games in big ticket locations would not hurt and could improve the Aggs by giving them a look at what goes on in the big world.

I understand how playing a top-tier team in the OOC season can help an RPI number but I truly fail to see how playing an "athletic" team in November or December helps prepare a team for a tournament game 3 months later in the middle of March. That worked out really well for Utah and BYU this year, didn't it?

Creighton Coach Dana Altman has a philosophy of not playing the big boyz unless they agree to a home-and-home. I sat there listening and thinking he sounds an awful lot like Coach Stew. How about these two programs get together and play each other. USU and Creighton both traditionally have a high RPI, are bubble teams, and both complain about no one wanting to come to their house to play. This would help both programs grow their resume a bit in the OOC. Stew! Please call Dana Altman!

USU needs to desperately upgrade its schedule. I don't think you can afford to play BIG programs early on in the season, when they are still getting into a rhythm. Just think about BYU a season ago... They beat Louisville in Vegas, but that was with Louisville at less than full strength. What these schools need is a Neutral site game... like a Michigan State or Wake Forest, spaced during the season. You might get thumped a few times, but you will be ready for March... USU.. go play the Pac10 and Big12 BYU... go play all comers, since you desire to be among the elite.

schedule in terms of SOS. The ONLY REASON I THINK IT WILL HELP IS WITH SOS which is one component of the selection process. RPI it obviously doesn't affect much, just look at our RPI.

ALSO I say that playing these "tough" games don't mean much and not to rub it in but look at BYU's results, they have upped the schedule and I guess it did help in terms of selection and seed but BYU seemed more than "stunned" by the athletic ability of A&M who they had already played??? So I'm not completely sold it helps that much. Utes beat the Zags and it didn't help them much either.

SOS helps but everything else considered I am not convinced it prepares a team any better for the tourney, atleast not when I look at our fellow institutions?

I mean you could argue it helped us to keep a mediocre SOS afterall we did look better against our seed than the Utes or Cougs and they both seeded better.

So while I partially agree you need the evidence it helps much isn't convincing.

Of corse it would help. How could it not? It's just like lifting weights if you don't add wait you will never get stronger. If you lose, you lose, however If you beat one of the big teams it would be huge. Granted it didn't help BYU or Utah, but look at their seed. expecially when USU beat Utah. It would help with recruiting, publicity, and respect. Respect is earned. it's not giving to you by beating teams that frankly knowone has really heard of.

First you have to give a reason for those big teams to come to logan. The spectrum is a very hard place to come and play, and for one of those big teams to lose here would really hurt them. If they won it wouldn't help them much.

Stew we love ya, what you've done with USU basketball is amazing, but it would be nice to see you play a little tougher sceduale.

I agree with Aggie Fan who Supports improved. Look at what SOS did for UU and BYU. Nada. They were more "stunned" it seemed than USU was.

SOS ranks opponents not the team. BYU and the U had these SOS elements to their advantage and it did NOTHING for them come tourney time. I'm not necessarily against scheduling a "big boy" but a great SOS is clearly overrated.
