I have posted a bunch of blogs that have not been exactly kind to Stew Morrill and this bunch of Aggie basketballers. I gotta eat crow! This team showed extreme heart down the stretch and represented the University very proudly. Thanks for a great season and I look forward to next fall!
Great Season | 8:34 p.m. March 20, 2009
Great game taking on a tough team from the best conference this year. By FAR the best showing for a Utah team in the tourney this year with a horrible seed for a 30-4 team. Too bad we couldn't pull it off. I wish the other Utah teams could have at least come to play. Can't wait for next season. Stew is an amazing coach. USU Basketball rules!
Thanks Aggies | 8:40 p.m. March 20, 2009
None of the teams in Utah compare athletically with the better teams in the higher ranked conferences, but heart and character do count and almost resulted in a comeback win for the Aggies. I for one am proud of the Aggies. They gave us all something to cheer about all season long, right up to the last second of the last game. Thanks Aggies.

I was at the game in the front of the student section. I witnessed absolutely ZERO middle fingers or anything of the sort. In fact, multiple times bonehead students in the back of the section would yell something classless/rude/stupid and instantly dozens of students would be berating them about their classless behavior.

I don't know your friend, or you, but unfortunately I think one of you is not telling the whole truth.
Great Coverage | 8:58 p.m. March 20, 2009
The coverage of Aggie basketball this season has been nearly as good as the play of the team. A 30-5 record is something to be proud of and so is the coverage provided by the Deseret News. For once, it actually felt like somebody cared about the Aggies.
BYU Through and Through | 10:46 p.m. March 20, 2009
Too bad Aggies. You really make a valiant attempt to win this one. I certainly was cheering for you, even though I'm a former Cougar. You played well against a higher seed and I'm sorry to see you go down to defeat. Having two of your top scorers for the game foul-out did not help. Good job, good season, good coaching Morrill.
USU = the best | 10:49 p.m. March 20, 2009
Go big Aggs!!!!
Time to upgrade | 1:22 a.m. March 21, 2009
Utah State played hard, and I'll give them credit for that, but it's time to upgrade that schedule. Beating 30 cupcakes a year obviously doesn't get you ready to beat the big boys. Marquette was missing their best player and this game wouldn't have been that close had he played.

Great season overall, but it's time to go on the road and play some real teams next year. Play @ Kansas, @ UCLA, @ Oklahoma State, wherever, just start playing some real competition and I think you'll be more prepared to advance in the NCAA's.
Proud of the Aggies | 7:30 a.m. March 21, 2009
USU basketball is a program you can feel good supporting. The kids graduate, they don't get in trouble off the court, and they leave everything on the court. I love Stew and what he's built at USU. GO AGGIES!
Ross | 8:15 a.m. March 21, 2009
Good game against the caliber of team that the Aggs should be playing all the time. They showed they can hang in there with anybody. Just a schosh more and they get the W.
MU Fan | 8:33 a.m. March 21, 2009
Only the top teams in the Big East (with one exception) were able to play MU that close this year. MU had a senior dominated team who are in the tourney for the fourth straight year. That kind of experience and mixing it up with Big East power teams all year gave MU the edge even when they struggled to make shots. UtahState could have folded, instead they kicked MU pretty solidly for about 12-14 minutes.

I hope all those UtahState fans will be there tomorrow to cheer for MU over Missouri. MU will need the help
Re: All Ute Fans | 8:56 a.m. March 21, 2009
ha ha ha ha ha ha, USU is the only Utah team that actually did anything. All you Ute fans tras talking everyone else should be embarrassed by how bad your team lost to a 12 seed. USU represented Utah the best, way to go guys.

Coug Fan
Congrats | 9:30 a.m. March 21, 2009
on a great year Aggies. Don't try to make it a better year by dissing BYU. Just talk about your own accomplishments.
Proud of BB in State of Utah | 9:52 a.m. March 21, 2009
4 Conference Champs + 3 Invites to NCAA's = Great year

3 "One and Dones" in NCAA's = Mediocre

Nevertheless, it was still a great year to be a basketball fan in the state of Utah.

At least we don't live in Colorado where their three D-1 teams (AFA/CU/CSU) all finished < .400

Congrats Ags/Cougs/Utes/Wildcats!!
Best Team in Utah | 11:20 a.m. March 21, 2009
Out of the three utah teams in the tourney, Utah state showed that they are the best team in the state by losing by a point to a 6th ranked opponent. Something BYU and Utah couldn't do against a 9th ranked and a 12th ranked team. BYU and Utah should study morril's films better and see how a good team plays basketball.

To the USU BBall Team and Coach Stew,

A few years down the road you will be contributing to the well being of your individual communities and the anguish of the loss against Marquette game will be gone. I am not a Pro BBall fan. It looks too much like WWF to me.

No doubt too you will remember the rural qualities of USU, qualities that are absent from urban life. Urban centers lack the quality of life that is available in rural America. That's why the BCS was created. Ironically, the BCS couldnt exist without the underdogs.

Thank you Stew for your stewardship. I like your approach, your sense of fairness and equity, e.g. one on one game exchange is right on. Your critics and the pundits can go pound sand.

Wishing you all continued abundance of Strength, Wisdom and Agape in your threads of life.
Uteowl | 12:02 p.m. March 21, 2009
Kudo's USU! From a blood read Ute, you guy's showed who the best team in the state was this year. Both we and TDS screwed up and played pathetically. Your game was a nail biter and it's outcome a shame. You played well enough to have won and with one or two breaks there at the end, you would have.
Aggie Fans | 3:57 p.m. March 21, 2009
Let's just say the Aggie fans like to have a little fun and support their team. Sure a few of them get carried away. Remember, half of them are just teenagers. Have you ever known a teenager to be rude? At least the Aggies gave them something to cheer about. The Spectrum is an awesomeenvironemnt for college basketball. Stay excited Aggie Fans.
BwhY?U | 5:50 p.m. March 21, 2009
Just because BYU fans are boring, they feel that they have to chastise us at USU for not beeing boring. We have hands down the best fans you could ask for.
As for the game, it was a great game, I am proud of the effort. They proved that they were the best in the state.
Tougher schedule? | 11:03 p.m. March 21, 2009
I have been on the "tougher schedule" bandwagon along with others. But now I don't know. See where the "tougher" schedules got U and BYU? They played less competitively than USU. Shouldn't have this "tougher" schedule hardened them for the NCAA battles? Even to make them competitive? Maybe we should give Stew a break and let him do what he feels. It seems to be working and making the Aggies competitive in whatever environment they have been in.
Re: J and all other "haters" | 12:43 a.m. March 22, 2009
Why is it that the fans of all the teams in Utah feel the need to tear each other down. I have never seen such an epiemic of "small mans disease" in all my life. Utah's teams all played great this season. It seems USU is getting most of their team back next year, so they're probably favored to be the best. But BYU will have some great players coming back and so will Utah. It will be great to be a basketball fan in the state of Utah in 2009-10.
DCH | 9:00 p.m. March 22, 2009
I just read through all these comments after returning from the game in Boise... Here's my response:

- USU (student) fans were not rude to Marquette at all. The students weren't even near the floor like they are in Logan. They were in the balcony area mostly.

- Note that Marquette shot 23 free throws to USU's 8 (there were several fouls called - or not called - on both ends to the benefit of Marquette - especially near the end.) Hard to win any game when the refs are against you.

- Funny how all the Ute fans who were commenting here magically disappeared after they had the worst loss (of the three Utah schools) with the best seed!

- USU definitely had the best showing against the best competition (UConn demolished Texas A&M).
