They do NOT have a computerized system that uses strength of schedule, head-to-head matchups, indirect matchups, winning percentage, and opponent winning percentages to calculate these rankings...
DNews doesn't spend a lot of time figuring out these rankings. It's whoever is winning at the time, no matter who they are beating. Plus, they have to put in some 2A teams when they are dominant in their classification even though they probably would not beat most of the teams below them. It does get a lot of attention even though none of these rankings really matter when the state tournaments starts. State Tournament teams, thank goodness, are not seeded by any rankings. I think a coaches poll would help out a lot but there is really no way any rankings could be exactly perfect. In the end, it really doesn't matter anyway. It is fun to speculate though
Emery is #4 in 3A and has four losses.....2 of the losses are to who???
Wasatch beat South Sevier by one point in a game that could have went either way. They are ranked #1 in 3A.
They move the 2a teams around at their whim anyway to make sure you "big girls" get your due. example: Richfield moves down this week after two wins and going 18-0.
You want to see some real basketball??? Try South Sevier at Richfield this Thursday!
