Once again PG falls apart against Lone peak with 4 minutes to go. Rivalries are were both teams win now and then, Lone peak has dominated this series therefore I wouldn't call this a rival game for Lone Peak. Now Provo and Lone Peak are rivals!!
Six in a row | 12:20 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Haws kept LP in it early with huge buckets in transition. But even me being a LP fan, CJ really is a talent. He ran out of gas late, but it took me really four years to realize his greatness.

Props to Pederson and Smith. They hit big shots.
Go PG | 12:20 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
I thought this was a great High School Game! Both teams played well but Lone Peak made the plays down the stretch. I was very impressed with LP offence and the confidence Haws and Coaches had in some of the other players to take the big shots in the 4th quarter. Sorry to see PG lose but congrats to Coach Lewis and his staff on a game well prepared for and played. They will be tough to beat at State

Go CJ!! | 12:36 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
I agree, CJ probably was tired having guarded Haws tonight, but still scored 29 points. Scorers don't guard the other teams top scorer as it can tire them out on the offence side of the ball. I noticed Haws wasn't guarding CJ unless he broke through the lane. Tough to win with only 7 baskets in the 2nd half. Good luck CJ at the Univ of Washington!
CJ and Ty | 8:28 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Two great players and even better people. It is nice to see them act with such class and dignity on and off the court. Good luck to both of you at the next level.
4 years of rivals | 8:30 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
are you talking about PG vs LP. Because T.Haws played for AF 2005 and CJ Wilcox didn't play for PG in 2005.
Kudos all around! | 8:55 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Great Game and kudos to both teams for a great effort. It was the best game I've seen CJ play under such tough circumstances. What a player! It was a classic BIG TIME high school game and environment. It was thrilling to hear the roar of the crowd in the packed gym when Smith hit those three bombs that blew the game wide open. CLUTCH! (But I was left to wonder why Smith doesn't get the ball more often? He was wide open most of the game.) Austin played his best game when it mattered most. Kudos all around! I would love to see these two teams in the finals at State!

Re; 4 years of rivals | 9:16 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
I dont know about CJ but has played for LP since his Freshman Year. There was a haws down in AF but not the same person and not as good
Haws and CJ | 9:30 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
CJ and LeSean both played as a Freshman but did not start. They both started 3 years for PG. CJ could get player of the year this year depending on how they do in state.

Haws started all 4 years. His Freshman season was up and down. From his Sophmore year forward he has been remarkable.
Austin Haws | 9:35 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Not even comparable to Tyler Haws. Tyler is the best we will see in a long long time in my opinion. He kept Lone Peak in it early with his flawless transition game, something most high school kids just don't possess. CJ was great, too. But he did falter in the end. I love Sefa. He's an automatic mismatch because of his size and feathery shooting touch. It was a great game, lots of fun to be there. Lone Peak gets credit, they were down most of the game and hit mammoth shots when it mattered.
Interesting topic | 9:45 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Player of the year? CJ definitely has the numbers, but Haws's are right with his in less playing time. Both have had to carry their teams at points this season. Haws won the head to head. Interesting debate for sure. I would say whichever one comes thru big in march. And then of course we'll have these Provo people saying collinsworth. They've played a brutal schedule with tooele and payson four times.

Haws or Wilcox
Tyler Haws | 9:47 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Tyler has played with 6 D1 players in his career. Is this correct?
CJ Wilcox | 10:00 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Has CJ played with D1 players in his career?
Cj and LeSean | 10:03 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
actually lesean started his freshman year.
Tyler and D1 | 10:46 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
During his four years, Tyler has played with the following players who have gone or will go D1:

Jackson Emery (BYU)
Bracken Funk (Fresno State)
Justin Hamilton (Iowa State)
Josh Sharp (Utah)
Nate Austin (BYU)
Dillon Smith (San Diego, Boise State, Air Force, Fresno State among others)

Several other players Tyler has played with will play or have play at the next level (e.g. Division II, JC):

Kevin Lindquist (Dixie)
Ryan Rios (Dixie)
Landon Clegg (Dixie)
Kimball Payne (Dixie)
Gabe Smith (Western Wyoming)
Brandon Knight (???)
Brandon Reeves (TBD)
Tommy Tebbs (TBD)
Tannen Pedersen (TBD)

Re:Cj and LeSean | 10:49 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Actually, CJ started the first 3 or 4 games and then LeSean later to rotate through the year.
Hold up | 10:50 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
How does playing with D1 players make Haws a better player? He has played with four, and ten total college players. But after last year everyone was saying "haws can't do it without his loaded team" well now he's proven himself to everyone. He's carried the team, played sick, and put up the best numbers of his life while still only losing two games.
Jackson | 11:01 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Never played with him. Until next year, that is.
D1 Players | 11:04 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
I believe Knight played at BYU-Hawaii, as does Cory Chase, who was not mentioned.
Re: Hold Up | 11:04 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Everyone talks about how much Tyler wins. He should! Even this year, he is playing with a D1 player. All you guys want to say is Tyler is better than CJ because Tyler wins head-to-head. He should! If CJ played with as many D1 players that Tyler has played with, so you are going to tell me that Tyler still would have beat CJ head-to-head? CJ has NOT played with ONE!
RE: Tyler and D1 | 11:05 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Tyler did not play with Jackson Emery or Brandon Knight, just so we're correct on those. Brandon Knight graduated in 2004, Jackson in '05. But, as a Freshman, he did play with Cory Chase who is at BYU-Hawaii now.
Comparisons | 11:07 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Just need to end, in my opinion. This is the best rivalry in the state and has been for the last three years. We have been truly blessed to see two great teams, and really the two best players that will ever leave their mark on this state in Haws and Wilcox. Who cares who they played with or what they will do at the next level? They are both fantastic. If I was picking a team and had the number two pick, I would be the happiest person in the room getting either of these guys. You can build a team around them, and see the results.
Don't great players | 11:09 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Win? Period?
Re: Don't great players | 11:21 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Amen.

Both studs | 11:26 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
I will agree that Tyler Haws has been surrounded by more talent, but they are both amazing players. I love watching these two go at each other. I wish that Tyler would guard C.J. more, just for the drama. Dillon Smith had a great game. But both will end up being awesome at the next level. GO C.J.
Funny | 11:29 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
how we talk about this, but CJ AND LeSean were 99% on going to Lone Peak last year. What would the outcry have been if CJ AND Haws were playing together?
LP Insiders | 11:34 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
know that Dillon Smith is difference maker on this year's team. Without him they lose.
re: 4 years of rivals | 11:35 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Um.... You might want to check your facts before you make statements like that. Tyler Haws has started for 4 years at Lone Peak. He never played for AF.
Positives | 11:37 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
CJ: Great shooting touch, athletic, solid ball handler, excellent three point shot, great footwork on both ends, fantastic hesitation moves.

Ty: Unguardable one-on-one, good ball handler, sweeps the ball strong, flawless in transition and off the dribble, great effort player, underrated passer.

Focus on what these two really are: Awesome
You can't knock | 11:39 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
CJ for not winning the big one, and you can't knock Haws for winning the big ones on a good team.
PG Parent | 11:41 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
is tired of hearing about the two players. Put them on the court alone and let the battle it out. The fact is LP has a superior coaching staff. PERIOD. We watch the Vikings go to CJ every time while LP goes to who is hitting the shoots.

CJ is awesome!!!!!!!!!!

What Id like to see is LeSean playing more! The refs dont give him a break. Hes always getting the bad end of the calls. Its a shame that a dominate guard like that seems to be always in foul trouble. Can someone help me understand?
One on One | 11:41 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Haws would be CJ every time inside 5 feet because of his strength and finishing ability. Outside five feet it's CJ all the way. CJ will be the biggest impact player out of this class at the next level because of his handle and quickness. Both are great shooters. It will be fun to watch.
Re: You can't know | 11:44 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
AGREED!
The beauty of basketball | 11:45 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
is that its five players against five players. The best individual players make the other four better. The results speak for themselves.

And don't bring bad officiating into this. It was an 8 point win, and Smith knocked down the big shots. PG shot more free throws.
No one said | 11:52 a.m. Feb. 7, 2009
anything about bad officiating and causing the game. Read the posting? NO ONE SAID REFS CAUSED THE GAME!!
Think about it? | 12:08 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Did anyone ever give Coach Lewis and Asst. Coaches credit for Developing D1 players to play with Haws? It's interesting how teams in the valley can compete with the Lone Peak kids at a younger age(open court) and many times beat them but as soon as they all arrive at the High School level great coaching and teaching takes over! Coach Lewis is the best Coach in the State! The Provo High Coach isn't bad either. I'm surprised his asst. coaches are not asked to take jobs somewhere in the state.
Re: Think About it | 12:27 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
I am PG fan. There is no doubt that Coach Lewis is the BEST in the state.
Think about it? | 12:52 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Does anyone know that HAWS,SMITH,CJ AND LESEAN all played together as starters on the state championship AAU team when they were 8th graders?

Coach Lewis deserves props for building a great program. He's been fortunate to get a lot of exceptional talent. Coach Drury gets the most out of his talent. Both deserve a lot of credit.
PG Fan | 2:37 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Pederson and Smith come through big for lone peak. Lone Peaks coaching staff is the best in the state hands down. Will someone guard smith? he hurts us at the end everytime we play them.
Anonymous | 3:39 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Were on the Jackson Emery Championship team as freshman
PG parent II | 4:54 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
I agree with "think about it @12:08"Lone Peak Coaches are better at finding, devolping and PLAYING their talent whereas at Pleasant Grove, it's a popularity contest!
There should | 5:10 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
be a rule against coaching a son. This PG's real problem this year and why both 6-9s, 6-5, both 6-4s are not on the court at the same time.
Re: Tyler and D1 | 5:20 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Don't get carried away and start classifying Rios, Payne, Tebbs, Reeves and Pedersen as D-1 players. Lone Peak has had some great ones, but those guys are not among them. Just good high school players.
Re: CJ and LeSean to Lone Peak | 5:23 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Quincy never would have let that happen. No way he would have ever been part of that. The guy has too much class and too much integrity. I'm sure if they wanted to transfer, he wouldn't have let them.
McAllister | 5:27 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
Any parent who would have a problem with coach McAllister coaching their son has serious problems. He is a fantastic guy, a good coach and teaches kids the kinds of things that they should be learning from athletics. Lone Peak has had superior depth and talent the past three years, don't blame PG's coach for that.
Re: Tyler and D1 | 5:27 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
When you look at your statements below:

D1:
"Dillon Smith (San Diego, Boise State, Air Force, Fresno State among others)

D2 and JC:
Brandon Reeves (TBD)
Tommy Tebbs (TBD)
Tannen Pedersen (TBD)"

Why is Dillon on the D1 list and the other three on the D2 or JC list?

In my opinion all 4 are in the same category. Very good ball players with a possible D1 fit in the right situation. But all could play somewhere after highschool

Does any of them have a scholarship offer?

The one person on the D2 list that could easily move up if he wants to is Landon Clegg. Clegg is on his mission and before his mission he was the Freshman player of the year in his league. That boy can flat out play.

My .02

The ideal scenario | 6:17 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
is McAllister being the Middle School coach and Quincy being the High School coach. McAllister is great at getting kids involved and playing. Quincy is the master of taking the kids to the championship.
Anonymous | 6:34 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
how about a article on brightons win again over skyline come on now, only team to beat skyline!!!
Haws | 6:50 p.m. Feb. 7, 2009
was not on the Jackson Emery championship team as a Freshman. Think about it. LP hasn't won 3 in a row. They've won back-to-back (Haws' Soph and Jr seasons). When Haws was a Freshman he started and averaged 9 points a game on the team that went 9-12 with Cory Chase, Grant Cummings and Matt Bailey as Seniors.
