fact: bingham miners will win the 2009 basketball state championship
Anonymous | 6:11 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
wow again we have to hear about how good Bear River is. Stick with the crappy 4A and 5A teams because those are the only ones you could beat. To think you could beat Provo is insane..insane. I hope this is what the basketball team actually thinks so they will get upset in the 3A tournament!

Isn't that the same weak smack you guys were laying down in football season?
re:my opinion | 7:40 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
I am a Bingham fan and you appear to be right on with your ranking. We have lost to Riverton, Davis, and Skyline. We are ranked below them. We beat Alta, West Jordan, and Jordan and they are below us. Add the 3 great teams we played in San Diego and you have a schedule that prepares you for the first week of March.
BEARS!!! | 8:46 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
I think most of you are really rude and need to get lives. The boys on the Bear River basketball team don't even read these so quit saying they are going to lose in the tournament. Blah blah blah!! They work so hard and love and respect the game of basketball so lets just let them play and wish the best for them. Go Bears!!
Downtown Freddie Brown | 8:55 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
Good to see West playing well. It's been a long time since the Panters were ranked. Thanks for bringing back the PANTHER PRIDE Coach Lyman!!
Mountain crest? | 9:43 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
amazing that they are ranked after a losing both games this week. Sky view and Bountiful both handed it to them....mountain crest is the fourth best in their region at best. Behind Bountiful, woods cross (even though MC narrowly won in OT), and sky view.
Timpview | 9:43 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
should be ranked. 5-2 in the best 4a region in the state. Playing well, but hasnt even hit peak yet. they will peak at the right time in the playoffs. go birds..
Anonymous | 10:41 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
wilcox is better than haws and collinsworth
re:PG | 10:58 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
PG has won 7 out of last 8. They are playing very good basketball. The rankings are for who is the hottest at this time. Not 7 weeks ago. You dont look at record. Rivertons loss to a subpar CH team "now" affects them. Nor does it mean that the #1 team ranked at this given time will win it all. Settle down. Come Tournament time does it matter who was ranked #4 in week 4? Wow. As someone stated-just go win games and the rest will take care of itself. And if PG beats LP Friday...then what? A lot will be eating crow. At LP, the game was tied with 40 seconds to go-and to tell you the truth I dont know who is going to win. All games between these two are instant classics. I wont be there, but to those tht go better be there by 5:00 to get in I have been told.
LOL | 11:00 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
Provo ranked 14th according to who?
Re: Timpview | 11:03 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
Yeah, I'm going to say...they will prob play Region 6 champs. If any Region 6 team wants to have a prayer in making some kind of decent showing at the tournament...well if I were them I would want to finish 2nd so I didn't have to play Timpview.
Haws | 11:04 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
It's funny how the only player in the state to have been an integral part of back to back state championships, the only player to go to the big all star camps, and the only guy to have proven himself for four years is getting thrown in the back seat to a kid that hasn't scored more then 30 this year. Purely from numbers, all Haws' averages are better, and he's played three quarters or less in 11 of 17 games this year. Recognize greatness. We aren't talking future, or who's recruiting, we are talking right now. Haws is the best. Period.
re: Tiger | 11:06 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
Hey Orem....here you wasted time, energy and brain cells arguing that the Tigers should be ranked in the top in the state-especially ahead of PG. Guess you didnt have a crystal ball knowing that Tooele, a 5-10 school just beat your Tigers by double digits. lol.
To: Big Bear -PROVO FAN!! | 11:17 p.m. Feb. 3, 2009
Wow. Seriously??

"By the way maybe these 5A teams should be ranked higher than Provo, after all they are only playing 4A teams!"

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! According to usatoday, we are ranked 9TH in the West. Do you see any of those 5A Teams ranked nationally? NO...I don't think so. I know that you are just jealous that we have an unbelieveable team, with very very talented players and an INCREDIBLE coach. Nice try, but we are where we deserve, and that is #1. I'm proud to say that I'm a Bulldog! I'm so proud of our team! Keep working hard!
Anonymous | 12:41 a.m. Feb. 4, 2009
Provo is unstoppable when they play team ball. The had a close one against Payson because a certain player had ten turnovers. If you have ten TO's in highschool that is a major problem. PASS THE BALL. It was fun to see Provo beat LONE PEAK two years in a row. GO DAWGS, And BEAR RIVER is for real, I saw some team mates play in Vegas and they can play with the best.
re: Jazzfan re: LOL | 8:05 a.m. Feb. 4, 2009
Spot on with your prediction with the Alta/Jordan game. Leadership and stepping up was exactly what the team needed.

re:lol. your spot on.....where is this #15 ranking coming from????? According to the biggest ranking program-MaxPreps.com, Provo is Rankings:
National 116
State 1

and for the 9th in the west statement....that's just the west. get them in with some big east schools, midwest, southeast, etc... and they go to top 100, which, isnt too shaby.
come on | 9:03 a.m. Feb. 4, 2009
I am from Bear River and think that every one from BR should be happy with what they are ranked at... cause the only teams ahead of them are 4a and 5a power houses. I am pretty sure provo would not 30 up the bears it will never happen so people should just leave it alone
Orem's bermuda triangle | 9:09 a.m. Feb. 4, 2009
There is something about favored Orem teams when they visit Tooele. First the football team comes to town favored and with all their trick plays on kickoff returns they get blasted. Then their supposedly ranked basketball team comes to town and Tooele handles them by 13 points. Orem must be glad Tooele is getting out of their region because they cant seem to win here in big sports. Watch out Region 7, Tooele is going to make a run at playoffs, just ask Payson and Orem.
Provo sqeaks by Payson? | 10:00 a.m. Feb. 4, 2009
Provo shot 11-23 from the foul line. Won by only 5 points? Payson is 0-7 in Region 7.

This does not sound like a national power, let alone the best team in the State. Utah must be very bad if Provo is the best.
re: my opinion | 2:41 p.m. Feb. 4, 2009
this is the real top 10
1. lone peak

9 olympus
10 provo

Provo | 4:13 p.m. Feb. 4, 2009

Anonymous | 5:26 p.m. Feb. 4, 2009
LP is 2nd cause they only lost to provo the other team was mountain view from arizona
Loyal Fan | 9:29 p.m. Feb. 4, 2009
Provo is easily the best team in the state and without a doubt one of the best teams in the western united states, as voted by USA Today. Being ranked nationally is nothing new to Provo. In 1998, Provo ended the season ranked 16th nationally by the USA Today. That team beat Miami Senior, which ended up ranked #4 in the nation with 2 players that went on to play in the NBA. They lost to the #1 team in the nation by 4 points.

But this is nothing new to us, we are used to success. Look at the state championships over that past several years. Provo won in 1995, 1997, 1998, 2004, 2007, and 2008. Does the word domination come to mind?

As for Bear River, I'm sure they are a good team, but they aren't in the same class as Provo, Lone Peak, PG, etc. Frankly, I'm impressed by all the support they get on these message boards. Provo has more boys basketball state championships in the last 5 years than Bear River has in the existence of their school. If you want respect, you have to earn it!
Bear River Goes Down! | 10:18 p.m. Feb. 4, 2009
Bear River lost to Morgan tonight.
To: Re: my opinion | 10:24 p.m. Feb. 4, 2009
Provo number 10??? Good one! Just like the cheerleaders chant..."Hey provo, what's your number?? Number 1, number 1, number number 1."
J-bizzle LOC | 5:39 a.m. Feb. 5, 2009
Provo High all the way☆ I've been watching these kids now for 4 years and they were made for this. The Provo Basketball organization is the only team in the state that gets invited to major tournaments by teams around the nation. This has been going on sense I played in '99. Kyle Collinsworth is a great player because he has great ball movement and understands the importance of always knowing where his team mates are.
Bear River | 8:31 a.m. Feb. 5, 2009
WILL go down in the 2nd round, this may be a good team but with the lack of Final experience they stand no chance of getting there! Teams like Judge & Wasatch are more likely to advance because of the experince, this is where you find out who is really the best in the State and who has the mental ability to play to that level BR will be to confident come playoff time and as soon as a team gets up on them its all over.
WOOO | 9:22 a.m. Feb. 5, 2009
How mighty was the fall last night in Morgan for Bear River!!! Bronson had an awesome first half with a few dunks. But when it came down to it they didn't know how to play in the clutch. Bronson didn't know what to do when somebody as strong as him was guarding him. The Bears are a good team but the Trojans showed that anyone can beat them. 3A is up for grabs!
Bear River | 10:32 a.m. Feb. 5, 2009
Welcome back to earth. It's comical every year when there is one or two teams in 3A or 2A or even 1A that are undefeated half way through the season and they start proclaiming they are the best thing since sliced bread. Talking about how they could beat Lone Peak, or Provo, or maybe even the Cleveland Cavaliers if they had the opportunity. Then every single year, they get beat by one of their own and you never hear from them again. I'm sorry, but 3A and below should probably stop proclaiming greatness on these boards because in reality, they are no where near the best teams in the state. Just my two cents worth.
So What | 10:33 a.m. Feb. 5, 2009
Just go and support your team and have fun. Rankings really do not mean a thing and both Trib and D-news are not in touch with high school sports. As mentioned before its to sale ad space and make you thing youre reading a local paper. Those days are long gone now that Media One is in charge. What does matter is how your team does in region play and the state tournament. Oh one last thing- Go Wolves! The tough part of our season begins now. This may be our last chance at a title for a while because of the up coming split so make the most of it.
National Prep Poll | 2:33 p.m. Feb. 5, 2009
Provo's #14 ranking is found at PrepNation.com

PrepNation.com was originally launched August 1, 2001, for the purpose of creating a permanent online home for the National Prep Poll football and boys basketball rankings.

About the National Prep Poll: Compiled weekly weekly since 1987 and distributed by World Features Syndicate and the Associated Press, the National Prep Poll is the nation's second oldest weekly high school sports rankings. Doug Huff of Student Sports compiled the rankings from 1987 until 1999. Jamie DeMoney has compiled the poll since the start of the 1999 basketball season until the present.

The National Prep Poll is the only high school poll distributed to newspapers and Web sites around the United States by the Associated Press national wire service. The National Prep Poll is the first high school football and boys basketball poll to released in the preseason and during each week of the regular season.

I'm Just a Girl but... | 8:15 p.m. Feb. 5, 2009
re: "re the truth" 7:14 feb. 3 2009

this is a different sport, and most of the fans on here were not on here during football season...

but a football loss i guess that is a smart thing to bring up while talking about the top 20 boys basketball teams... it really just makes you look so cool right now...

RE: re: my opinion | 2:41 p.m. Feb. 4, 2009

you really have escalante a 1A team ranked #5 in the state hahahha
Wow | 9:04 p.m. Feb. 5, 2009
Why does riverton keep getting the short end of the stick, just because they lost to CH or viewmont doesn't mean they're not good. I mean look at L.A. they just lost to Charlotte and are you gonna tell me L.A. isnt one of if not the best team in the NBA? every team has slip up's all that matters is how you finish. I smell region champs this year for riverton.

we played against the bears and we did come out with a win and i have seen provo play too. So as a someone who actually knows what it takes to win a game, and who knows the game for that matter, i think that bear river has a chance to beat any team out their. any team can loose and if they are over confident they will loose. Their are alot of good teams out there and i think that they should keep working hard to keep it that way. ANYONE CAN BE BEATEN. Now stop talking and go out and play the dang games!!!!!

You may want to go back to school.

"bear river has a chance to beat any team out their. any team can loose and if they are over confident they will loose. Their are alot of good teams out there"

-It is out there (not their)
-It is lose (not loose)
-There are a lot (not Their are alot)

You may want to use I instead of i. Just trying to help.

One more thing. Bear River just lost to 8-10 Morgan. NO WAY can they hang with Provo or the top 5A teams. Go back to school and get a clue while you are at it.

You may have 'SEEN' Provo play, but until you are on the court with them you have no idea.

By the way, you may know the game, but you do not know grammar and spelling.
P-town photographer | 3:31 p.m. Feb. 22, 2009
Provo only actually scored 11 points in the game against Payson. The people they recruited were the ones who scored the rest of the points. So booyah provo. At least we don't have to recruit to win.
