Attended the fireside with my wife and loved it. Pres. Monson is intelligent, charismatic, delightful, and wise--a great role model for society.

If everyone was like Pres. Monson, no doubt the world would be a much different place.

After reading these articles and posts the church has many many more issues than I could ever percieve. It is a screwed up culture an certainly damages those who participate.

I appreciate your point of view, but for your consideration, President Monsen is a prophet in the same vein as Moses, Jeremiah, Samuel, Nephi, Alma, Peter, John the Revelator, etc. He is not only the prophet for the church, but for the whole world. We are very fortunate to have him leading us. Given that, I think it would be unwise not to listen to such a person.

In this particular talk he is reiterating and giving additional revelation to what many prophets of our era have said: "Get an education."

He is the Lord's representative on earth. See Amos 3:7, "Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets."

We do not worship President Monsen, but we should listen and do. "In this there is safety and peace." Through all my life's trials, I have never found a prophet's warning voice to be counterproductive or irrelevant when I've followed it. Of course I cannot claim to have followed prophets perfectly in every aspect, 24/7/365. I'm human too.

But the revelations that come through prophets are not of human origin. They are divine.

RE: the real speech

When it comes to money, our's is probably the poorest family in our ward, yet I served as bishop from 1999 to 2004. The Lord looks to those who are willing and capable of serving. Nevertheless, it was a great trial for me personally. My situation was the result of a couple of failed business, and I constantly worried about putting bread on the table at the same time I was trying to serve as Bishop.

I am so incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to listen to President Monson's inspiring words. Being in the presence of a dear prophet of the Lord our God gives me an even stronger testimony that he loves us so much that he would give us someone on earth to receive inspiration for the church as a whole. I am so grateful for the gospel as a pivotal part of my life. I also would like to point out and hopefully we can realize that money does not make the man. Please remember the author of our salvation, the Savior of the World whose life began in a little stable in Bethelehem. Remember your worth no matter how much material things you have, your worth is so GREAT! God Bless!

I think it is disingenuous of Monson to stand up there telling everyone else to "prepare" when he had his career and job security handed to him on a platter because he was related to the right people in the Church. His relatives were in the Church leadership, so he was called at a very young age.

Let's face it, there is an aristocrasy in the Church and unless you are among the elite families in the Church, you are nobody and you must scrape by the best you can. For Monson to preach preparation like this rings hollow to me.

There are many comments on here that are not mixed up at all. A few, but not the majority. As a comparison, the comments on my local news websites are really screwed up. They are very eager to point out they aren't lds. I find it down right disturbing that so many people have such an attitude of wanting to clobber the person next to them for the same sins or smaller sins than they themselves are struggling with. I see far more screwed up people outside the lds faith than in it. I've been in both places.

Everyone is entitled to repsond differently to what they hear. I feel that despite my strong spiritual and personal suport for our beloved Prophet- if someone wishes to give an alternative view, we, as Latter day Saints should respect their opinion. We do not have to agree and we should express our own standing. But we should follow the example, in my opinion, of our leaders and show courtesy and respect to all- regardless of our differences in faith or opinion.

His talk was filled with empty platitudes, trite cliches, worn out stories, and vague counsel. You might as well go have your palms read or read your horoscope! But you brainwashed fools see what you want to see.

You "anonymous" poster(s) are awfully misinformed. Please tell me to whom in power Thomas S. Monson was related so that he had his job(s) handed to him on a platter. I'm sure you can't. I've studied his life and there's no truth to your ridiculous accusations.

Many bitter little people enjoy posting under "Anonymous." Or, perhaps there is only one and he has nothing better to do than to hide in his basement scanning the Internet all day and night.

I know that President Monson is an inspired leader and I have a lot of respect for him.I know that the counsel that he gives us latter day saints is for our best.He does his best for us to receive these wise teachings and we should all appreciate his counsel because we are young and in a stage of learning in our lives, and need to become more spiritual and not fall into temptations and avoid wrong peer pressure, thats why we have our free agency .Our friends dont choose for us we choose for ourselves and we should always choose the right and we shall be blessed.Thank you President Monson for your talk.
