So you BYU fans who don't understand what is really going on here, keep yapping. For those football fans who get it, let's hope something is done so that ALL deserving teams have a shot.
Also, TCU and Boise should have both been playing new year's bowl games, instead of some of those sorry automatic bid teams.
Utes should be champs. Regardless of who might or might-not beat them.
If you looked keenly at all the BCS bowl games played on the field; quarter by quarter, snap by snap, you would be hard-pressed to say that Utah could not play with any of them. In fact, Utah most likely would have beaten the Oklahoma's, Texas', USCs Ohio and Penn State's, and with a flawless game plan, even Florida. Yes, Utah ran the table of games set before them to even get the consideration to the Big Boys Bowl. Don't downplay that. They had to. But their performance against a Big Boy team once they got there was truly impressive.
In all the BCS Bowls played, most of the teams pretty much stuck to what had gotten them there. Coach Whittinghams and the OC & DCs masterful game plan against Alabama was out-of-the-box, and executed precisely. Could anyone say Utah couldnt do the same against Florida, Oklahoma, or USC?
Given this reality, I think #2 is great, all things considered!
Utah had a better record
Utah beat Oregon State. Oregon State beat USC
Utah beat #4 team by 14. USC beat #8 by 14 - at home
Utah beat #6 Bama, #7 TCU, #18 OSU, #25 BYU
Utah gets knocked for a weak schedule, but keep in mind USC played some softies, too, like UCLA, Washington State, Washington, Stanford, etc.
I understand that Utah is upset because the Utes are not voted #1 in the BCS. There is one main reason for this. Utah nor the MWC is not apart of the BCS sytem so how can Utah be voted as the BCS Championship, it can't. Utah can claim since they are the only unbeaten team they deserve to be #1. WRONG. Florida and Oklahoma won their conference championship games for the right to play for the BCS championship. UTAH did not. This is what happens when you want to be a "BCS BUSTER" rather than join the BCS. So please stop whining and wanting others to HAND you the #1 spot when you don't deserve it. MWC needs to get better teams in that conference and do what it takes. Or go independent like Notre Dame.
USC's schedule was pretty soft (Wazzu, 0-12 UW, UCLA) and they beat a Penn State team that played their worst game of the year - by 14 at home
Texas was outplayed by #10 Ohio State and if not for a generous spot on 4th down and one lucky play, would have had two losses and probably ranked 10th.
Oklahoma has 2 losses - 'nuff said
Florida is the only team I think who could hang with Utah this year and even they beat Bama by a smaller margin than the Utes.
Do you really think that Utah WANTS to be the BCS Busters? Utah HAS to be the BCS Busters because the BCS WILL NOT LET THE MTN WEST INTO THE BCS AS AN AUTOMATIC BID.
Utah is not the BCS busters Utah will be the BCS destroyers. All the attention the Utes have gotten for busting it twice will play a big hand in the change of the BCS. Its inevitable thanks to congress stepping in, the system has to be changed by 2011 or they cant actually call the winning team the national champions.
Any reasonable, objective fan who did a little research would come to the conclusion that both teams deserved much more credit for what they accomplished than the biased talking heads and clueless fans are willing to give them credit for.
Congratulations Utah on a great season! #2 and a legitimate shot at #1 was well deserved.
Maybe some of you will now have a little better understanding of the media and fan bias that BYU's fans and team experienced from 1979 to 1984, in 1996, and again in 2001.
Been there, done that.
Ignore the kids and 12-year-old "grown-ups".
True, long-time BYU fans understand and sympathize with Utah's frustration for not being fully rewarded for what the Utes accomplished.
Congrats on the Mountain West Conference Championship and an undefeated season, Utes.
Why did he vote the Utes at number 5 in the poll used for the final BCS rankings? That's the vote that determined who played in the national championship game. Was he afraid they weren't number 1 then? At the time, only Utah and Boise State were undefeated. Was he not ready to stand up for his players then? I'm confused.
Looking back at the season by the time they played the Y, the Y was probably one of the weakest teams on their schedule.
I don't want it both ways, I just want BYU to lose every game, in every sport they play. Men, women and children. It's all that simple

Hence, I'll refrain from posting a rebuttal.
